The backgroundstory: The man (actor: Bruno Ganz) came as an angel to earth for monitoring and support .. He is so fascinated from this woman, who intuitively identifies him as her man .. that he wants to abdicate his immortality ..
The film is a piece of art, which won a lot of awards (German director Wim Wenders).
Dialogs are poetry based on a poem of Peter Handke, Austrian poet ..
The French actress Solveig Dommartin died already.
Well, I am German. And that whole dialogue feels absolutely artificial. At least for me, maybe only for me. Maybe I talked to the wrong women in my life? Who knows..
I think it's intended to be an artificial dialogue due to the gist of this film.
it's among the greatest masterpiece films that i have ever seen infact i saw this movie 5 times already- and totally love it. it reminds me of my childhood in Frankfot a Main where i lived for 2 years.
THE STREETS OF BERLIN SEEM A LOT LIKE THAT CITY , ALONG TIME AGO.
with all due respect parachute, if you don't speak German....alot gets lost in the translation. And...actually, there were women writers on the project.
I was shocked to see that someone had posted the very scene that most impressed me in that film, it is also in this moment that I realized that German is a very beautiful language, but many people don't credit it as such.
One of the finest masterpieces of cinema. Wenders is up there with other great directors like Miyazaki, Del Toro, Welles, Hitchcock, Kurosawa, and Kubrick to name a few.
There are only three films that I love to see, ever and ever, year by year. In these films I can discover something new everytime I saw them, picture by picture.
Wim Wender's "Immel uber Berlin" is the first.
Andrej Tarkovsky's "Solaris" is the second.
Alejandro Jodorowsky's "El Topo" is the third.
They only are masterpieces of cinema.
Thank you Wim. Thank you Andrej (wherever you are). Thank you Alejandro.
I have a tradition every year of watching "Wings of Desire" on Thanksgiving Day....it has nothing to do with the holiday, but it is just something I have always done. No one understands it; hopefully, someday someone will appreciate the tradition as much as I do.
This is my favorite movie ever, thanks for posting this clip. You would be surprised to find how many people do not know the original version of "city of angels" is actually a beautiful German movie which far surpasses that Nic Cage movie anyday.
A real poetic experience!

She also plays in a film called 'Until the End of the World.' There are a couple of nude scenes of her in that- she is beautiful.

Men should never even try to write a women's dialog.

The woman speaks German with a heavy french accent. You prob like the sound because of this ;)

I know what she means. It's amazing to have captured this complexity in a movie script.

You have truly excellent taste in cinema, visehrad. As much as I love "Solaris", "Nostalghia", his second last film, is my favourite Tarkovsky.
