lutz the klutz was responsible for bankruoting gm, and the shitty designs of the 70's and 80's shame on him for being the definition of the fat hog at the trough, here's hoping GM goes belly up again, cheers!!!!!!
Bob Lutz didn't kill GM. GM didn't even kill GM. The people who broadcasted global warming did it. They'd still be selling H2's and Tahoes like hot cakes had someone not claimed that CO2 was doing stuff to the climate.
yeah! so start building lithium ion electric car plants in america now? hello? there are people converting to electric without the companies...you can charge from your private house. apartment dwellers will need to charge at charging stations,
unfortunately. unless you can remove the battery and take it inside your apartment
You guys seem to be forgetting this guy brought us the Viper almost thru sheer willpower! Before you liberal assholes thrust your unqualified opinions on us, read his book Guts. You may have a different opinion afterward.
Toyota killed the electric car too: remember the RAV4 electric, it's gone. I fully support GM's efforts to build the Volt. The Volt is going to make the Prius look like a gas-guzzling Sequoia. 40 miles without using a lick of gas, count me in!
When GM (and the other Automakers) sued CARB in order to stop producing the EV1, and won the right to stop producing the EV1, what they won was the right to go out of business. What horrible foresight. I hope the government won't think they are worth saving.
Lutz talks as if the EV1 never existed. 40 miles range. give me a break!! the EV1's range was more than 100 miles. he assumes their destruction of their EV's erased the collective memory of the public.
Lutz is more interesting in the segment where he attempts to make the case that GM was injured by CAFE standards when in fact had GM and labor not been successful in stalling CAFE that they would have been no more vulnerable to the gasoline spike as other manufacturers and would not have seen their stock lose 2/3's it's value, or face their staggering liquidity problem. Lutz pleads ignorance that no one could have predicted peak oil, but in fact 30 years ago that was the whole point of CAFE.

It's shame Lutz wasn't around for the EV1 - the man has a sense for style (and risk) that GM could have used back then.
