Even a God Dam BallPen, Pinoys can disarm, lock, block, drop, pop and break you down. Its good to know that Manny Pacquaio was also seeing this type of training going on in Philippines as he was training to fight, boxers and escrimadors all over the place incuding kali, arnis artists as well. Great video !
@ajatkinson2004 Yes. Arnis classes range from traditional arnis to a modernized version of the art hence the name Modern Arnis. Arnis teaches you to fight with 2 sticks, 1(which can be replaced by maybe a journal), a tonfa, machete, sabre, a doulo which is a substition weapon(that can be replaced by keys, a pen), telescopic baton. You also learn to fight hand to hand which goes from boxing techniques and beyond. Theres an element of street fighting as well. Recently we were told how to interact
with someone who had a hood or was wearing glasses. Its a great martial art that is comparable to the russian systema. Its very varied, its a great workout. One of the best martial art out there hands down.
Ballpoint pen seems pretty practical to me. Open your eyes and look at the applications, not the sticks. All martial arts become more practical that way. If you look close, you'll realize he didn't even need to use the pen. He could've used his hands, or (like I'd do) his shoe. Whatever you got available to you, right? I recommend doing research. Most people on youtube won't be able to help you and the majority of the ones that will will feed you a line of BS.
@ajatkinson2004 They usually start with sticks to learn the movements and applications, then go to knives, then open hands, then steel weapons like swords.
It looks good but i'm wondering how effective it is when in a streetfight the opponent fakes a punch, does a groin kick or just does a wrestler leg takedown.
You have to realize how slow he is really going in order to show the technique. No technique, and I mean NO technique, will work if you don't move quickly and decisively. I have used some of what is shown at speed and believe me it does work. As for other takedowns, if you train to know what you are seeing then you can react accordingly. Having fought wrestlers who train for sport, it is different when you are trying to kill them. Reality versus sport. Big difference.
wow ive been on youtube and seen a lot of clips of fake wannabes martial artist who are marketing there crapy shit but it just puts a little tear in my eye to see a real practical direct master at work
I was cracking up watching this because he was getting more and more excited as he was demo'ing and he started moving faster and faster and talking faster and faster.
@stickpiethere They actually weren't. That was an editing trick. I had to cover up a camera move so I inserted a cutaway shot. Everyone was stunned watching the demo. He was just stopping by and wasn't supposed to perform. If I remember correctly, the demo subjects weren't even his students.
I saw a demo by GM Presas where he showed how to take someone out with an empty water bottle. When they demo stuff like that it is to show that the art is more about concept and that techniques can be done with or without weapons.
@Lee94503 I don't think so, so much would have to be watered down that it wouldn't look like the real thing. I mean I've seen real fencing and the Olympic stuff makes a game of TAG look aggressive.
Master Presas, Thank You for the dynamic video representing the FMA on youtube. I did not have the priveledge of meeting your brother or yourself although I must admit I had the chance. I thought that we would all be around forever, and we have lost so many. Keep doing what you do so well. Sincerely, Master Ron Saturno
The Bourne saga has a lot of techniques. One of the stunt coordinators knows Filipino martial arts but kali wasn't the only style used in the film. Kali has been around longer than krav maga. Hell, even Egyptian martial combat existed before Israel!
Ernesto Presas is mostly Shotokan Karate and jujitsu. They just can't market it that way because there are too many jap schools out there. Selling his style as FMA makes it a bit more unique.
makes sense since Ernesto Presas studied multiple martial arts (including jujutsu) in order to expand the capabilities of his base FMA. I mean, c'mon, everybody is human: we all have two arms and two legs. We all can move the same; you're going to see overlaps amongst martial arts.
i trained the kombatan system to lakan ranking. it is more organized than many martial arts systems. the problem is that the actual training does not bridge to reality and relies on predetermined attack patterns in order to appear to work. notice the way the gm queues the attacker on where to hit him. you can watch other videos that will show the same thing. many people that practice this can fight, but it is not due to the system.
any martial art always has difficulties to it. its not hard but it certainly aint easy. i for one always came home with bruises and cuts when i started kali, but think of the bright side, most people dont know how to fight a person with a stick in the streets so that gives you a big advantage in a fight, and the chicks can see your bruises and scars.
Ang PROBLEMA,nasasalo mo yung suntok kasi INEEXPECT mo na iyun.PERO sa totoong LABAN--MABILIS.Ngayon ang tanong-magagamit mo ba iyung mga sinasabi mo?

The PROBLEM is that you were able to work around your opponent's strikes/punches because you expected them. But in a REAL FIGHT, it's FAST(er). The questions is, can you still use what you say?
@ph8tel The problem with this is that you can catch the punch because you already know that it's coming. In a real battle it is much faster. Now the question is can you use all of these things that you are saying.
@ChakraSony Not the uploader, but maybe I can help?
I don't practice this style of escrima but I do practice another style (Bahala Na Giron Arnis Escrima). We practice defending against strikes from all angles so that we would be ready in a real fight.
Granted in a real fight strikes will come faster but this is a demo, it's not unusual for the strikes to be slower. They may practice against faster strikes (I certainly do). Also in a street fight your opponent is likely to telegraph his punches.
oo pards effective ang art ni master presas sa mga practical na labanan mas maganda kung hanapin mo siya para mas maunawaan mo yung kagandahan ng kombatan, ang gym niya matatagpuan sa globe building quiapo.

yes my friend, Master Presas' art is effective in practical combat. it would be better if you would actually meet him to understand more the essence of the Kombatan style. His gym is located at Globe Building Quiapo Philippines.
lopoex, I understand what your are saying. But remember this is a demo. All is done so the audience can appreciate the martial arts. It is not a real fight. Syempre, iba sa laban. di mo talaga alam ang dadating sa'yo. Patay ka kapag akala mo na ang natutunan mo ay epektibo kung di mo naman nasubukan(English:For sure, it is differend in a real fight. You'll be dead if you think what you learn is effective if you don't test it.)
