Pause at 3:52. Wow. Plus the Jazz integration. Amazing phrasing. What a Holy Genius. I think of him as a more singing-centered Messiaen, but also beyond this.
I had the honor & privilege of singing for Richard at Holy Name during the 80's. I was a cantor for the cathedral's contemporary choir, led by Chris Tamani, and I also sang for Richard periodically. He was a very colorful and gracious man who went out of his way to get know ALL of his singers. He genuinely cared about them and showed his appreciation whenever possible. His music was the centerpiece of my recent wedding service. Richard will be missed greatly. RIP! Alice Dames, St. Louis, Mo.
I am deeply saddend at his passing. What an incredible musician and all around wonderful person. He had a deep impact upon my life and I will be forever grateful to him for all I learned while working with him!!!
I'd be interested to know what hymns/melodies he contributed to the new Lutheran Service Book as shown towards the end of this video. I can't find him listed in the index. Beautiful works
I was in the St. Charles Borromeo Boy Choir in Tacoma, Washington from Oct '68-Jan '70 Richard Proulx was my choir director and those 15 months have formed my life. Because of that training and inculcating of the pure joy of quality sacred music and the quality presentation of such music, I have been able to sing all over the world. I owe my current mission and work to Proulx's training.

He, by the gift of his music, helped us pray in the Kingdom here on earth.....
may he enjoy his music being sung by the angelic choir in Heaven!

What a beautiful tribute. Dr. Nestor has a wonderful point about appreciating the entirety of his legacy, not just his sacred music

So sad to hear of Richard Proulx's passing. I loved singing his music while a student at Notre Dame, and hearing his recordings since then. RIP

I've always loved his playing his music - it's the best available! Haugen and crew can't hold a candle to him!

Yah, Proulx's masses are fantastic. Makes you wonder why Haugen/Haas is more popular...
I think Proulx's works will last longer, though.
