I found out on another video that lots of black people tried it and it worked fine. So the problem here isn't that he's black, but that the camera refuses to track nice people. ok, just kidding. It's just some combination of his skin color with the near by lighting that caused it. Or the background lighting was too light. If he had more lighting on him it would probably work better for him.

Weird... You would figure that the camera would track him easier since there is a larger amount of contrast between his head and the background. Maybe the camera is using the eyes and/or mouth for tracking and it's having a difficult time picking it up on his face as compared to hers. The lighting conditions in the store definitely aren't helping. I'll bet the camera could track him if there were lighting in front of him (behind the camera) and not only behind him.

Anything that uses facial recognition will generally not register someone's face if it's dark enough. Pale skin is easier to pick up because shadows and eyebrows contrast more with very light colors. I had a Guyanese (People from Guyana tending to be very dark) friend who tried to use a character thing on my webcam and it wouldn't register her. This webcam registered alright for me (I'm Mediterranean), but was sometimes unresponsive, and worked perfectly for one of my other friends(He's Irish).

Chances are no one bothered to check the facial recognition software's options. While I don't know much about that technology, it seems like it would have an option to set up the ques it needs to follow any object. Yes it probably does track anything based on the gamma levels the object emmits (not radiation, color gamma). It's more sensative to bright colors, and setting it to track darker colors would make it track the wrong locations, I assume.
