Also, my personal opinion is that this song is about two persons : one that observed how the other started to spiral downwards from his true self, trying to explain that what he/she is doing will ultimately be the death of their relationship as friends or as lovers. Overall, this song is about how a person filled with vanity and self-righteousness paired with a sparkle of carelessness can make his/her lover/friend leave him/her for good, even though it's heartbreaking to do so.
