  • With Captain Treece, it was never hard to get a hardy salute from her. Even with a pilot on board while doing the welland canal runs, she would often sound her horns. Most vocal boat around when sailing, thats for sure!

  • a classic

  • Never heard the mailboat give a five horn salute....that's a first.

  • The Ryerson has been sitting at Fraser Shipyards for a long time. Just down the road here in Superior Wisconsin USA.

  • Tha is an awesome blast horn.Love it!

  • she's a beautiful ship (but all the old great lakes freighters are)

it's a good thing so many of the old freighters are still around

  • Seniority would be my guess.

  • I love the Ryerson! She's an awesome freighter.

  • Hey now lets save some steam for the propeller! I am sad during my time working the boats I never sailed a steamer. The best whistles on any ship I worked on was probably the Roger Blough. The Burns Harbor had some loud Kahlenbergs but not very melodic.

  • I really like the Blough's whistles too. Although not steam, they have a great, powerful sound.

  • Really beautiful, combined with beautiful steam horns. Did you noticed the ship is using both horns?

  • I stand corrected...
