Def check out Guy Perod and David Phelps singing this song! There is an older Gentlemen (Bill Gaither) giving a short testimony about the songs origins then the singing starts at 2 mins. What a powerful set of Voices you will get goosebumps for sure. p.s. Love Faith Hill too!
Who are the people singing with her on this song? Are they her back up singers or are they from another group? Does anyone know? They sing wonderful together.
Pitiful!!!She could take some singing lesson from the girl who sings with the Isaacs. I don't know why the crowd was so jubilant over her singing..Maybe they were trying to drown her out.
Does Faith Hill sing this at all her concerts?...Thanks mattmurdock for sharing this song,Faith sings this from her heart. Isthis song on any of her cd's?
Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.
@pinkinmybrain Sometime, you should look up the story of this song...the man who wrote it lost his family on two seperate occasions....once his son died in the great Chicago Fire and the 2nd time his wife alone was saved when the ship they were sailing on was sunk in a tragic accident. He yet had the courage and faith to pour out this amazing witness and testimony to the Grace of an undeniably Almighty God.
@roninalchemist That is what makes this song so powerful. Often times when I face heartbreak I react by shutting down. I should react by praising God for being with me in the storms and for being God despite the storms. Mr. Spafford, despite immense heartache, remembered that God is God and that our hope is in Him. "My sin, oh the bliss, of this glorious thought. My sin, not in part but the whole. It is nailed to the cross and I bare it no more. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, oh my soul.
@pinkinmybrain P.S. I just happened to check my e-mail a moment ago. I don't want folks to think I am glued to Youtube and e-mail so much so that I would reply to a comment so quickly. LOL!
Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the S.S. Ville du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with another ship, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone."
This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford's life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer).
Actually I think Amy Grant's version of this is the most breathtakingly beautiful "pop" version I've ever heard. She calls it "It is Well With My Soul/The River's Gonna Keep on Rolling" and it's on her "Legacy...Hymns and Faith" CD.
OMGosh this is such a powerful performance. When I saw it in Richmond I got chills as soon as it started. I so wish this was available on a recording. I can't even find a bootleg of it. She should do a gospel album and include this on it!!!

It Is Well with My Soul is a very influential hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss.

Unto Him who loved us — gave us
Every pledge that love could give;
Freely shed His blood to save us;
Gave His life that we might live;
Be the kingdom,
And dominion,
And the glory evermore.

Does anyone know if this song (It is Well With My Soul) is available on any of Faith Hill's CDs? Thanks for your help.

No it's not, this was a special thing done at Tim and Faith's Soul 2 Soul tour year before last.
This recording doesn't do it justice... was amazing in person.

I encourage anyone who doesn't know the story behind this song to Google: Horatio Gates Spafford, it makes the words a lot more meaningful.
