just wondering is this like a book where you won't need anything else if you just get it and can play on your own or is this one of the adaptation things for dungeon and dragons, thanks
I was working on adapting the All Flesh Must be Eaten system to a Planet of the Apes roleplaying game. Imagine my surprise when I went to their website and found that they'd already done it. I went out and bought it the next day. I love Terra Primate.
I ordered this for being something a bit different from the usual CoC/BRP stuff that I run. It will also be nice to have a book that exdplains the Unisystem and because I am afraid AFMBE will turn out to be too limited to base more than two or three scenarios on this seems a nice one.
Kurt, can I suggest to do a review from some of Warhammer fantasy rpg handbooks? There are some interesting ones about "evil" characters, like Children of the hornet rat and The Tome of corruption what are very funny and add a twist to your typical WH campaign.
hey good review, but there are more modern games out there, what about all the books C.J. Carella wrote for Palladium books? there where just as good! I mean If you are going to Review HARP WHY NOT Palladium the King of Independent games and the Crunches rpg on the Market?
I'm glad you did this review, Kurt (and thanks for suggesting it, Duhad8). TP recently came up as a topic on RPGnet, and the consensus there was pretty much the same: most underrated Unisystem book, one of the best. I always passed it by on the shelf, because I thought "What, I play an ape? Eh." Maybe I should think about it a little more...
BTW: Zombie Ape Cyborg Ninja Pirate = Battlechimp Potemkin, Jammer Hero from Feng Shui...raised from the dead.
Kurt, I like your reviews. What follows will give me a bad rating...
TP is the one Classic Uni game I found has no value by itself. The only thing I found to be orignal was the Flight power and that isn't enough.
AFMBE is the toolkit game. TP has the same specific enemy problem (Apes rather than Zombies), but none of the benefits of AFMBE (modular enemies, continued support). I can easily build TP with AFMBE.
This RPG ends up only being good for Planet of the Apes fans who hate zombies.

I would think Planet of the Apes would be a perfect RPG setting.

Thanks for giving Terra Primate some love. It doesn't get the attention that it deserves.

I love this book. I also found it much more to my liking than the zombie line from Eden.

This was my introduction to Unisystem. About four years ago, I think it was, I picked it up new at the Five Buck booth at DragonCon in Atlanta.
I loved the system so much that it sent me on to All Flesh.
And Kurt is right, it is a good base system, including powers and ways to make races and the like.

Giving kudos to unknown/underrated games is good. You should do even more of this.

As always, a pleasure to watch (though I'm not sure about the curtains ... can we go back to the books background?)
Any chance of Shadowrun 4 and/or Desolation this season? :)
