@TheConciseStatement True. I mean the catherine tate show, little britain, three non blondes and loads of others that I can't recall thankfully. All of them started out promising enough, but after the 3rd recycled joke in one show you start to wonder where the imagination has gone?
Yeah these shows hope the average viewer can't tell the difference between a well developed running gag and just lazily churning out the same joke every episode. If you take a well developed gag like Mitchell and Webb's Numberwang, there's an internal logic to the way it ups the randomness each time. Whereas if you think of some dire show like that Karen Taylor thing that was on BBC Three, it was literally just like six stock characters in different settings with the same punchline.
