how do you like the x993 ? how is the pre amp out puts ? is it a seemingly good head unit ? i recently had a x990 excelon which i must say was an awesome head unit, well that was until the faceplate back lighting quite. i ask cause i am thinking on purchasing one myself . is it worth the buy ?
@Heberaro Well now that I have had the unit for nearly 2 years I can give you the pros and cons. First off the outputs plenty powerful I think 4.0 volts. The sound quality can be dialed in to near perfecting with the 5 band eq, Xover control, and Xover slope. I have an issue with the backlighting with this unit aswell. Occasionally the backlight with power off, until i give the unit a nudge and then it goes through the whole startup process again. Obviously there is a bad connection somewhere.
I seemed to be locked out being able to change radio stations. I recently changed my clock and must have messed things up. My remote will not change channels anymore. Can anyone help please? Thanks.
@dougd1015 There is a small reset button located on the face of the unit which you can hold in with a pin or small hairclip, in order to reestablish default settings.
My buddy just picked up one of these, and so far I like it. Actually, it was the 693 version, but its close enough. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is missing the animations that the 792 has, but the fact you can change all the colors almost makes up for it.

The 9886 is a great head unit but doesnt charge my iphone. so it was a no go for me really on that reason alone. The x993 having included BT hands free calling is sweet though. And the x993 just isnt as userfriendly as the alpine... but the x993 is cheaper and can sound a lot better.
@lemonadeFig Yes and the quality is actually pretty good, somewhere between that of the radio and a CD. I have been using the Cowon S9 and have been pleased with the response, the touch screen rarely lags do to the bluetoothe.
Question bro. I am thinking bout installing this into my 3 series Bemmer, I went to 2 audio stores. First store told me get an Alpine that looks to colorful and fruity, but sounds Great! With Kenwood Seakers, the ones with carbon fiber. Next, place started with the lowest end, but I want this because it goes well with my intior, but with JL Audios. Are JL Audios good with thse speakers, of should I get the all Kenwood? I think the amo he recommend was a 4 channel Amp?
get some rockford t162s door speakers also get some foam speaker baffles, backed with a 100w rms per channel amp you will be BLOWN AWAY how loud and crisp these sound. if you get further in to it with padding the door panels and floor and fire wall with some sound dampening dynamatt and an audio processor or eq the sound is unreal
hey man. i was looking on crutch field and out of them all this one stood alone. i really like its looks. its clean and looks like its not a waste of money lol(which i hate to waste). i just had a couple questions. did it enhance the sound very well? do you like the controls(easy to use, not annoying or pain in ass)? and i dont know much about connecting thumb drive does it work well?
yes it did dramatically improve the sound quality but only after hours of fiddling with the 5 band equalizer and cross over settings. I really allows you to dial in setting specifically 4 your speaker sizes and locations. The default menus 2 a little difficult 2 navigate through. But once I got the "favorites menu" tailored 2 my needs things changes take place much faster And about the usb connection. The headunit loads the content extremely fast allowing u 2 navigate through folders quickly

I'm thinking about getting this unit as well. The pod connection is the biggest thing. How is the Ipod setup? Does it take long to scan? What does it display?..lines..etc
i have only used a friends ipod on here a few times. his was an 8 gig touch and it ran smooth as butter. the nice thing about this unit is that it allows you to choose song selection and volume controls straight from the ipod when it is plugged into the usb port. i have seen very few head units that are capable of this.
i will make a quick video of the unit at night just so that you cans ee how it looks it will not be a complete over view though. I will post it as a video response

It seems very difficult to see the screen during the day, it could be the camera. Have you had any difficulty viewing this screen during the day?
