It is a lot easier to produce such a scenario using religious dogma, but of course, any ideology can be distorted and pushed to extremes in order to create a dictatorship, even the least likely one, atheism.

@theproplady You see, that's what happens when atheism is taken to extremes, but how many atheist ideologies have done this so far? How many atheistic movements have forced people into submission? Very few. I can only remember the one you pointed, actually.

Now think of how many religious movements have forced people into submission, or are still doing so.

It's a lot easier to manipulate the masses through faith and a lot easier to create fanatism based on belief, not on the lack of it.

@DarkZholt How many atheist ideologies have done this so far? Only one. Sure it resulted in the death of MILLIONS but it was only ONE... Don't get me wrong. I'm no big lover of religion and I hate to see it used to abuse people, but I think it's naive to believe that with religion gone, people wouldn't use atheist ideologies just as handily. All evil ideologies are equally effective whether they involve a deity or not. (You just insert "the will of the people" in place of "the will of GOD".)

Pretty much any idea can be used as a tool for good or evil, religion, atheism, political parties, racism, sexism. Any idea can be used as an excuse to hurt people.

This is probably caused by our ''tribal instinct'', that creates the mindset of ''us'' and ''them'' and compels us to hate anyone outside of our circles, so people find excuses to hate others over their race, their sexual preferences, their favorite team, etc.

Knowing makes it easier to suppress this instinct
