Well known bm artists of the era (who are featured in the book) claim around 90% of it is completely made up and/or spun to make it seem like black metalists are completely off their handle. Basing your knowledge of early 90's bm from Lords of Chaos is like citing German WWII propaganda for your knowledge of nazism
