He is definitely using a pick. He keeps it tucked away underneath his middle finger while he isn't using it. The awkward hand movement at about 4:20 implies that he has just put it away.

I don't think he is using a pick at all - but it does look like it as he is holding his index finger and thumb together as if he were holding a pick. Anyway, that's my theory! I'm particularly amazed at the rapid upstroking of the strings near the end - that's what really made me post this tune.

Also the later half of his solo he used his pick. He just keeps it on reserve in between his fingers when he needs it. The guy had incredible feel.
