  • At 0:17" you can see Bjork, third little girl from the left.

  • First group looks like ? and The Mysterians

  • Damn, the girl from 1:33 to 1:35 is fine as hell.

  • eu racho! muito bom

  • Great video, many thanks to WhiteRose63, I was at one of those concerts, 13yo at the time, still remember my seat was in row 7, and the opening act of Kinks was the coolest thing I had ever seen and was to see for several years. At this time The Kinks were next to the Beatles in fame and popularity. And still have a special place with me. ... PS the first band is Tempo, then Bravo from Akureyri, really young kids, I never heard of them later.

  • I thought I heard the word "tempo" in this video, so I thought maybe the group was called the Tempos. I see they were actually called Tempo. It sounds to me like the second group (who all look like they were 12 years old) is called "the Heretics." Was there a band called the Heretics in Iceland at that time?

  • So cool to see those 60's newsreels from other bands than The Beatles & Stones.

Don't understand why they left the original sound of the two support bands, and dubbed studio tracks behind The Kinks'performance. Probably a managerial decision.

  • The kinks song has been overdubbed over film. How do I know? Its exactly like the album version down to the piano backing which is not on stage

  • Mick looks adorable behind his drums. He looks very cuddly. :)

  • what I wonder is how the Kinks were so crazy popular in so many non-English speaking countries

of course, girls will be girls regardless, and respond wildly to all that raw, sexy talent.....

  • Audio dubbed from disc.

  • Terrific vid! Thanks for posting!!

  • awesome stuff thanks white rose63 for sharing, and ta muchly mister reali for hipping me to this great footage of one of the best beat groups the world ever knew!

  • That is so neat!

  • quel document!!!

  • are they playing or is this recorded? at one time Dave stops playing to adjust the amp but the 'You Really Got Me' riff keeps on playing... :))

  • Thanks for the claification. My Danish is quite rusty and Icelandic is a different sort of deal anyway but after listening closely to the commentary, of course Tempo is in fact from Iceland. And accent be darned, the kid has a good voice.

  • Tempo is from Keflavik.

  • The starting groups on this tape are both Icelandic, Tempo from Reykjavik and Bravo from Akureyri. Remember this well, I didn't go myself but I do recognize some faces in the crowd. Those were the days!

  • The first supporting band is from Sweden and is called Tempo. The second band is Icelandic and is called Bravo. Man,dig them crazy stripes!

  • The support bands are probably local acts - listen to the heavy accent of the singer in the first band. My best guess anyway.

  • 0:38 mercedes ponton! =)

  • KInks: BEST BAND EVER

  • sometimes i wish i had been born two decades earlier... wish i could have seen them play in the 60s and 70s...

  • wow - you can almost feel the heat rising off those cute Icelandic girls...

  • amazin, innit? all these years later, here they are on one's desk top. strewth. never woulda thought it possible....

  • @arbutus27 Indeed, but at what cost...

  • Are you from Arbutus, Maryland?

  • No, Redhill, England

  • Thanks and watching for the first time reminded me how great this group was in 1965 :-)

  • 5:33 I wanna have those kind of iceland girls. At 6:06 seems she was snifing glue hah

  • @boliboy2299 haha... yeah. it looked like she was sitting there sucking her thumb to me.

  • @fwzzybird haha i was thinking the same XD

  • @boliboy2299 haha yeah indeed or sucking her thumb

  • I must thank you as well. To me the Kinks were so beautiful and scary... The look and sound of the Davies brothers was pure early punk and I still love them so much. Thank you.

  • 1. The support bands Tempó og Bravó.

    2. no idea.

But i was told that Im on a Island was written about iceland. Do you know if that is true?

  • 2:06▬Brilliant play back ♫

Pete Quaife is so cool here.

  • Red Roses 4 U ! .. Thanks so much , .. I saw them about thirty years ago in icy Zurich . They put the place on fire ! ... Both Ray and Dave impressed me so much that night . Rock ' n ' Roll , in flesh and bones .... at the end this video , ... the girl sucking her thumb !...Too cute !

  • This is probably late '65 or early '66. The first band is playing a cover of The Beatles song "The Night Before" which first appeared on the "Help" LP in August 1965, so it had to be after that and the Kinks logo on the drum set was gone by 1967.

  • the kinks footage is either lip synced or over-dubbed with crowd sounds added.

  • yeah, it overdubbed somehow ... even with his back turned ya can see no one is even close to playing that (Jimmy Page?) lead.

  • X-tremely cool video, thanks for posting!!

  • Hello WhiteRose63.

Thank you very much for this video. It so happens that I am the drummer with the groupTempo. It was just fantastic to spend those days with our idols. I think I was 17 years old...so this consert was little more than 40 yrs ago. Tx again.... great fun to see this and to look at this great happening again.

    Regards, Palli.

  • wow, nice to hear from you - Tempo look likea bunch of very cool teens. glad to share the Kinks love!

  • Hello. Your most welcome and thanks for all the Kinks videos you seem to have downloaded on Youtube.

  • @WhiteRose63 imagine making love to one of those "kinks" girls, magic....soooo cool :)

  • @pallivall This was from '65 which makes it 45 years now. I need a time machine!

  • @slimshine953 If you ever come across one, let me know. I want in, lol! We'll go back to '65 in a flash!!! :) :)

  • @jenzeppelin If I happen to find one, you're welcome to come along on a trip back to the fabulous, golden 60s era with me. I must advise you though... I may not want to return, of course you could if you like, but I'm sure you feel the same. ;~}

  • The gum chewing brat/lead singer of Bravo (1:40) is PUNK PERSONIFIED!!!

  • knuP...more like ☺

  • Check out the beautiful Burns Bison bass at 1:11 . That guy's a dead ringer for Runar of Thor's Hammer (who also played a Burns). I know it's not him, but maybe his kid brother?!

  • my dad has that exact same Bison. It's beatiful ain't it

  • It is! I've got a white Bison just like it, with the scroll and all.... but would also love to have a menacing black counterpart.

  • Ha you'd think this was a beatles concert because of all the crazy girls lol.

One good thing about the kinks is that the audience most of the time were fairly relaxed, meaning they were able to be better live performers than the beatles.

  • My dad played in bravo :D

  • Menn kunnu sko líka að slamma í þá daga.

  • Great that this video is still in place. I´ve seen a part from the same concert with the policemen shaking their heads to the music. This is a longer version and it´s great. Hope you have the entire video available soon.

    thanx.

  • I only have this version of this clip, but love the idea of those ravin' policemen! thanks for all the comments!

  • Yeh, great video and it brings me back in time, because I was there - at 13, it looks like most of the audence is at that age. We had great time. Kinks played at least 10 concert in Reykjavik in only 3 or 4 days. Tempo played cover music and did a good job, Bravo where 11 to 13 years old - we thougth they where ok, in the video they are funny children. Hljómar/Thorshammer did not play, they where the top goup in Iceland these years, they played theyr own music and a lot of cover music too.

  • Yeh, love the video and it brings me back in time because I was there at 13 and it looks like many more are at that age.

  • Yes great video, it takes me back in time because I was there at one of the concert. The Kinks played in a cinematheatre, and they played at least 10 concerts in 3 days. Earlyer we had only one or two visit by british beat groups. Yeh, Tempo played first, theyr signer whent on to be a member in a folk group, one other member of Tempo is well known radio commentar - Thorgeir Astvaldsson.

Tempo played cover music. Hljómar/Thorshammer did not play, but they pleyed orginal music but cover music too.

  • Fantastic, would have loved to have been there - thanks for all the info!

  • The first support act is a band called Tempo, The kids in the striped shirts are called Bravo. I don't know anything about them, except that they're both Icelandic. Got the names from the swedish commentary. Great vid :)

  • thanks for the extra info!

  • Wow! What an amazing video! Thank you so much!

  • beatlemania??? no!!!

    kinkemania xDD

  • THANK YOU!

  • Could the first band be Thor's Hammer?

  • ...and the girl at the end is sitting there sucking her thumb!!!!
