An important note for using blackra1n now.... if you get the error ASL.dll missing, it is because apple has changed the files so you will need to put the blackra1n file in c:\programfiles\commonfiles\ap­ple\appleapplicationsupport There the blackra1n executable will have the support files it needs to run without crashing. I have been messing with this for days after accidentally restoring my iPhone through itunes up to the 4.2.1 firmware. I managed to get it back to a 3.1.2 fw b4 this break

Ugh thank you!! However I have the ipod touch 2g and I still had to do that control-alt-delete thing and close all the itunes or apple processes....BTW people that one thing under processes called "iTunes Helper" must be ended!! That was what was holding me back from jailbreaking for hours!!

If you have to restore then all your data will be on your itunes. Also it's spelled lose. Not loose.

@Mr777luver with 3 gen, it tethers with your computer. forget what that means and just run blackra1n again to fix it. Now, like he explained in the video, if you ever turn off (as in shut down) your iTocuh, you'll get the icon that tells you to plug it into iTunes again. To fix this, just run blackra1n again and you should be fine! Btw, make sure your on 3.1.2 firmware and don't update to 3.1.3.

The apps will stay on the iPhone during this particular jailbreak. However, jailbreaking with programs other than BlackRa1n potentially could remove apps.... But in this situation, your fine.

Nope, you're going to want to downgrade to 3.1.2 firmware. 3.1.3 is not widely supported with jailbreaks yet.
