  • I could do that, but I'd have to do it in the nude, you see, I only sing in the shower. X rated entertainment? Make that triple X! Size Triple X. No I'm not talking about bratwurst. Have mercy!!!

  • That's amazing. How often I fantasized being up on the stage , doing a BB solo. Of course, you have to have a voice. With about 46 years of "practice" I thought I was able to nail down most of the songs, but I admit you are better. Nice job on the Superman song.---Ken

  • Hey John,

Where all did you tour with the group? I was living in Raleigh,NC during the 80's and '90s. Where you there? I attended a concert there when John Stamos was featured,----Ken

  • Hi thanks for writing. I never "toured" with the group. On 9 seperate occassions in various states in the mid-90's I sang ( and sometimes 'sang along") with the guys on stage. CT, NC, SC, WA, FL, CA and more, and I feel very blessed for the experience. Billy Hinsche and Jeffrey Foskett have sung on my CDs, but I am nothing special. John

  • John, I'm sitting here looking outside my home near frozen Pittsburgh ( my woody's outside covered with snow....) My wife and I met Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and the back up guys after a concert at Duke University in 1982 or 83. We had a nice long chat with Al. He's just the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

  • Al is indeed a very nice guy. It saddens me that the remaining members are not all together under the monicle "The Beqch Boys". I am from CT, so I certaily remember the snow fondly, but wouldn't trade it for the open windows, giant mountains, tropical foliage and turquoise bay out ide my window at this very moment. Keep in touch and check out Billy Hinsche's upcoming DVD preview on Youtube. 1974 - On The Road With The Beach Boys.

  • My goodness John, you are my spokesman and hero in this scene! Been a Beach Boy fan since 1963 ( I'm a year younger than you) . Had my greatest thrill meeting Al Jardine (twice) and singing on stage with Jan and Dean in Pittsburgh '00

    ---Ken

  • Aloha Ken

Thanks alot, but I was just lucky enough to have that first opportunity and to then have it happen 8 more times thereafter.

Please keep in touch. All of the guys were always very nice to me and to my (now) ex wife and my daughters too. Where are located ? CA ? john

  • Yes; they were. Matt Jardine was singing the lead and Carl was rehearsing the group for their first 'unplugged' show .

  • Sweet!!!!

  • Yes they're wonderful. I saw them first in 1964 and over 100 times in my life, so to actually be on stage for a total of 9 times in the 90's was a great thrill indeed.

I learned most of what I know of harmony by analyzing the background parts of every one of theris and BW' songs.

Carl was main man and was so kind to me, as were Alan, Mike and Bruce. Got to meet Brian twice. At Mike's wedding, I spent almost an hour just talking alone with Brian.

"If We Ever Need A Super Man:

  • This is just so cool. I got to see the band in concert with Carl at the helm in 1995 in California and again with just Mike and Bruce in 2005. Never did get to meet them. Hopefully someday...

  • I liked the interview. you look so happy and excited. You are fantastic. 5 estrellas

  • Thanks so much. Yes I was thrilled.

    John

  • Hey John,

I mean this as a compliment in this video you look like you could be Papa John's twin with your mustache

  • The moustache is history now

  • Hi john,

Wow your stuff is cool. Why are you calling yourself old?? You don't look old.

  • Thanks, but looks can be deceiving.

  • by the way, did you ever get to sing "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" with them?

  • No, I didn't ...but i did share the stage with them on several times after this. Thanks for asking. Aloha, John (now living in Hawaii)

  • Lovely

  • Thank you very much,

    John Hunter Phillips

  • Dear John

Your love and passion for their music was really uplifting to see and infectious (I went out and bought the Pet Sounds box set to listen to the a-cappella versions of the album after watching your clip). Their harmonies and melodies just seem to make the world a better place

I'm very happy to see that you got to go on stage with them

  • It warms my heart to see such happiness in another human being. You have been so blessed with your talent John, and even more so with your genuine spirit!

    Linda

  • Thank you so very much, Linda. It was indeed a very special evening for me.

    John

  • That was interesting John. The interview was cool. I enjoyed your commentary

  • Thanks Jim !!! The best part, to me, was hearing The guys rehease 'Surfer Girl' in the background.

    John

  • Very touching, that must have been very thrilling. Good to see a fan that likes the rare songs too.

  • It sure was a genuine thrill ...something I'd drempt of for decades. Then it happened 8 more times around the country

    John

  • The ending on this version, the stoned '67 version, is just gorgeous.

  • Yes indeed, and it was th3 first time I'd herd that ending.

    John

  • How great! What a dream come true. I have been a fan since my Dad started to put headphones on me as a young child. We both have all the albums too and love their music. We are also both fans of your music too. I have just found you on myspace, I love your version of "Only With You". Superb!

  • It's awesome to hear them in the background. Matt Jardine has such a beautiful voice.

  • I agree. Matt is awesome. I think that is actually the most beautiful recording I've ever heard of "Surfer Girl." JHP
