Push button start has to be the most useless feature the auto industry has come up with since rain sensing wipers. Was turning the wrist really too much trouble for some people? "I'd love to take my car for a spin, but that starting procedure is waay to strenuous for me! Can't I just push a button? And why do I have to figure out when it's raining? I can't keep my eyes on my nav screen AND the weather. My car should do that for me." People are lazy.
@lupischuckle reason why push start button was invented, was not because people were too lazy to turn their wrist, but was because it was convenient to just have ur sensor key in your pocket or your purse without having to take it out. I have a push to start engine button and i just unlock my car without taking out my key in my pocket, sit down, turn on engine and drive off, once you have a car like that you'll notice how much it makes a difference.
@rhim812 I do have a car with push button start- and I still find it ridiculous. I lock my house with my keys, I lock the office with my keys, and my car keys are on the same chain- so how hard would it be to just keep the keys in my hand and start my car with them? Not very. I also have rain sensing windshield wipers which I hate. It's all about personal choice of course, some people love these things, I find them useless. But each to their own.
@lupischuckle yea true, but if you came back from the store you can just jump in and drive off because the key would've been in your pocket the whole time. But I understand what your saying, it just makes our life a tiny bit easier lol.

Hi, Steve. Love the review, as always. But isn't the push fob to start feature equivalent to the push button start? It seems like you're doing the same motion (pushing your finger) to get the beast awake. And what a honking beast it is! If it doesn't tickle your fancy (it sounds like it doesn't ), then at least you have the solace to know that Aston Martins have the exact same feature. =)
@stevehammes You are right, you were driving a Premium Plus model and not a Prestige packaged car that comes with a PUSH button start and larger 5 spoke wheels amongst other things.
@MaximusCritter how about YOU look at the center console a bit harder. there is no push button start on the car he was given. you can get it as an option for extra money but it is NOT standard.
@MaximusCritter Look at the center console a bit harder? Why don't you pause the video at 37 seconds and LOOK A BIT HARDER. The key is inserted into the KEY FOB of the car. This S4 is a Premium Plus as it does not have a Push button start. Only Prestige Models have that.
wow , 53 grand is a lil steep considering this is an entry level model { a4 & s4 } , i can get an E class merc or 5 series { mildly equipped} on that price
@props28 why do you think the S4 is an entry level model? It's a 333+ hp car that does 60 in 4.9 seconds. Ride quality is great. steering is way beyond the norm. Tech is well beyond anything considered standard. My s4 arrived last week and it's 200% better than my 2007 a4 which I would consider more of an entry level. In fact when I bought my a4 the s4 started at 75k (in Canada) I kind of doubt the 5 series would compare - certainly not the E class which I'm well versed with.
Nice review. However I would seriously consider the new Kia optima SX 2.0T that makes 276bhp and gets 33mpg. Oh and also has the push button start, Bluetooth streaming audio missing from the S4. The cooled driver and passenger seats are a bonus. Oh and 10 year, 100k warranty.
You could almost buy an m3 for that money

Decent review, but next time look down at the center console a bit harder. The S4 *does* have push button start.

@MaximusCritter Don't know what car you're looking at, but my car DIDN'T have it.
stevehammes 11 months ago 13
@stevehammes hmm, perhaps it's a feature new to 2011, as my 2011 S4 does have it.
MaximusCritter 11 months ago
@stevehammes It does, it's above the nav button to the left of the shifter. It's on all your interior shots. Glad you liked the car!

phenomenal car, the s4 is lightyears better in every way than a 335i. exterior, interior, technology, features, fit+finish, performance.
just wish audi would bring the s4 avant to the US!
