Chumbawamba sold out? Yer feckin joking, right? One of the most rockin' radical righteous revolutionary bands of the 20th or 21st centuries. PERIOD. As for Tubthumping, I first heard that song when I was doing 5 years in prison for cannabis, and ya know what? It kept me going. An inspiration. Let any mofo who says Chumba "sold out" show the rebel songs they wrote and the contributions they made that are so much more "rad'. Otherwise, STFU, Posers!
děti, v 90kách vznikala samá skvělá muzika a tenhle song to jenom potvrzuje... to co dneska posloucháte, milé děti, to se kurva nedá ani okomentovat slušnými slovy...
All bands do when they get good hits and money lol. They are only complaining about shit because they are not famous yet but once they are what to complain about specially when you rich.
@NyeTunes I agree. And also, 'sold out' is not that true. They gave a lot of money away and refused generous offers from advertising. Besides advising their fans to steal Tubthumper from HMV.
@NyeTunes One comedy top ten single in a career of nearly 30 years? Selling out? Do fuck off, Allowing the industry to buy just that tiny bit of their prolific career, for a stupid amount of money, on their own terms? How is that selling out? It put them under no obligation, they didn't relinquish any Artistic control, and got a shedload of cash, from what was, after all, their own hard work. It's a bit crap of them saying they regret Tubthumper though. What's to regret?
@KarmicAnarchist Aside from the one song that everyone knows and which shan't be named here, Tubthumper was a pretty badass album in a series of them from this band.
@thultner I've been into Chumbys since "Pictures" and "Never mind the Ballots", and politically, their music is just as relevant today as it was in the 80's. And If you put aside the overexposure of "Tubthumping", it's a cracking track anyway. It owes it's phenomenal crossover to the fact it became a football Terrace Anthem. And the obvious Binge Drinking Karaoke appeal. The irony is, almost no-one saw it as satire, until the beast was well out of it's box.
@KarmicAnarchist Well said. Those who would lob "sell out" to any band never tried to make a living playing music, and with such a lineage of counter culture, politically relevant music that covers a number of styles as Chumbawumba presents through the decades. Sell out only really counts for those who say a point (ideal) over and over then don't practice what is preached. Commercial success should not be mistaken for selling out, as so many trust fund punks seem to think. Jocks with hawks.
A lot of their cd's were only released in Europe so that's probably why it's not on itunes. They have some great cd's and some fantastic music. Maybe try a british download site.

@asubjectiveopinion Big fucking deal, they sold out once. Then they went back to being independent. It's not like they don't regret "Tubthumper" now.
