Robin Ellis a great British actor is here sporting an American accent. He played the main role in "Poldark" maybe the longest series on YouTube. There is is Alpha Man,here he's soft like butter.Lee Remick has been one of my favourite actresses for 50 years!
Just finished the novel yesterday....I enjoy Merchant-Ivory, and I appreciation the contribution they made to this particular genre. The direction, especially in early films, is a bit flat, but usually the strength of the stories carries the movies along. Dialogue by James is very hard to reproduce on screen; I suppose that as I read I'm always infusing the words with just sufficient irony to make them interesting....
I don't know what induced Merchant-Ivory to film almost all novel of Henry James, but I find the films a little too slow for my liking. It has excellent production values and the costumes are also authentic for that period, but the dialogue is preferential to say the least!!
I haven't yet seen Robin Ellis speaking American, but when I do, I'll let you all know what I think

What's this haunting melody? It bespeaks the Romantic Age so perfectly.
