That's not a travel. At 0:30, its clear that he made a jab dribble, took his first step (left foot) at 0:31 bringing his right foot up. Then the hop step (landing on both feet) at 0:32. Finally the jump shot at 0:33. I often use this technique while playing basketball. Of which the most common is: dribble, first step (right foot) while making a fake pass(going right), the hop step (landing on both feet) going left and then finally, the lay up. Manu is just definitely good on footwork.
@nandezomar no because he wasn't shooting he just jumped back if you want to look at a video go to manu's step back jumper it is exactly Wat he did so it really is-ant an up down because he wasn't shooting yet.
When he put his right foot to stop (that everyone count it as the first step) you can see the ball touching the floor, so is not his first step...Then, yes, he put both foot on the floor with the ball in his hands (now we can count: 1, 2)...then the jump shot...
Conclusion: it's a legal 2 point shot...Spurs win...end of story...
no body in the lakers ever euro step?? ive been watching them my whole life and never seen any player euro step, so dont hate. and shut up let them do there jobs, there obviously professional they know what there doing..
@lakersdude32 It's called a hesitation dribble and then a hop step, it's not a travel, it's completely legal. Besides, if it was a travel, don't you think that the refs would have seen if it was that conspicuous, But it wasn't a travel.
righties tend to step back and shoot more often when driving left because after landing from the step back ur in a more natural shooting position. imagine stepping back for a shot driving right. it's more of an odd shooting position to land in. the fact he's left handed and stepping back driving with his strong hand makes it looks like a travel but isn't.
@Jeffreeey24 and that is why you are an idiot...its not a travel but i wouldn't be surprised if they did call it a travel just because of the way it looks at live speed but replay shows not a travel.
If Kobe were to do this, ever yone would be celebrating, but because it is Manu Ginobili, everyone's arguing. Besides, I think that if you are completing a dribbling motion, then you can still take two steps, and so therefore, the shot is valid.
he picked up the ball after he planted right foot, thats not a step, his left step back is his first step. If he didn't land both feet on his hop step then that would be 3 steps, but i think he did so its legit. Man-u
Amazing shot! WOW. And absolutely no travel. I've seen this play in slow motion in other youtube clips actually, and it's clear that it was NOT a travel. Perfectly timed shot! And all by the book!
yeah seriously stfu.. kevin mchale is a fuck tard, claimed this was inevitably a travel. he wasn't palming the ball with his left hand.. and therefore didn't have control or possession until he jumped into the jump stop.
For everyone saying HE TRAVELED!! REFS SUCk or GAME IS RIGGED!! Even though it might have been a travel, it wan't the most obvious call, and Manu has earned the respect to not get the travel call. For example: on the same day, Knicks VS Celtics, when Paul Pierce hit his game winning shot, he could have easily been called for a push off. However, he had earned the refs respect, so no foul was called
Stocking stuffer, right in the mouth? Why can't we get guys younger than 50 to call games. Tired of these lame ass Grandfather jokes. I just can't relate.
“The first step occurs when a foot, or both feet, touch the floor after gaining control of the ball.”
Thus, Ginobili’s step-back with his left foot is his actual first step.
You can reply back to me, but I am done with this topic as the evidence proves this is not a travel. I will always be here to educate others on the rules of basketball so if you have any legitimate questions or if you want to send hate-mail or just act like an idiot, send me a message. Thanks
The announcers, refs, coaches, and players...who collectively have probably 200+ years of basketball experience have nothing to say about this? Come on guys...really?
clearly, you people are just not watching the video close enough. like i stated before, he does not have FULL possession of the ball until he both feet hit the ground. I can bounce the ball and take 100 steps, do a backflip, dance the macarena in between dribbles...He bounces the ball while stepping with his right then while the ball is returning to his hands he takes another with his lefts jumping backwards...then the ball touches both hands, thus completing and ending his dribble.
@eric37428 watch again idiot. The ball is in his left hand before he takes that step with his left foot. So there you go, your whole argument just died. Travel.
@eric37428 watch again idiot. The ball is in his left hand before he takes that step with his left foot. So there you go, your whole argument just died. Travel.
Clearly a hop step/step back jumper. He had perfect timing with the dribble to give himself extra space as he did not have full possession of the ball until he jumped off his left foot. And we all know that in the NBA rulebook, you are allowed to jump off of one foot land on two feet simultaneously to take your shot. A quote from the rulebook:
"A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step."
@eric37428 rofl, you dont understand, its saying taking the first step off of the dribble, so as you bounce the ball and it rises up from the ground, you take the first step, then gather. not take the first step, then take another step on your left, then gather. it is a travel. always has and always will be (except in the NBA). Clue up.
please notice that he finish his last dribble before he take his right foot off. So "right-to-left jump" is the first step. The second is left-to-right (which you are calling the first) and the third is putting his left foot on the court. It's travel, no doubt. All you dickriders stop saying that this is allowed. Or show me a vid where few officials, after viewing this 5 times frame-after-frame say that this type of play is ok with rules.
@Bed1990 That's not a travel, you just don't understand the euro step that Ginobili utilizes quite often. You can make your case over and over, but in the end, it was not a travel, nobody on the Bucks bench signaled for travel, they didn't ask for review because that was clean clutch basketball.
& even if it was a travel, the officials let the Lakers walk all the time! In the last game when they pummeled the Spurs, Shannon Brown took like 5 steps before he jumped for the dunk. Ridiculous.
The move that you call "euro step" is not a travel. Look out for his tutorial on yt about it. He shouldn't put the left foot on the floor and that's obvious.
"& even if it was a travel, the officials let the Lakers walk all the time!"
so what you say is that we should allow now every player make even 5 steps in game winning situations before calling a travel? That isn't a good way to follow.
NBA's officiating sucks. If nothing change, we'll see young stars traveling all the time
he gains possession, (of what everyone is calling a travel) after he takes those two baby steps.. he jumps into possession and position to shoot. also known as a jump stop.. fuck kevin mchale.. this is not a travel.
@Nutshot5111 you can if you didn't have possession of the ball during those two steps. it doesn't matter how many steps you take for each dribble.. he jumped into possession and that's the point.
@mymovielifetm either way he picks up the ball, takes 3 steps and jumps. which is a travel. times his step perfectly pfft. he takes a step, picks up the ball with one hand, takes another step, jump stops and then shoots. picking the ball up with one hand is still picking it up, you cant call it half a dribble or anything other bull shit. eg, the statue of liberty dunk - you pick up the ball with 1hand, take 2 steps and dunk. just cos you pick it up with1 hand doesnt mean you cantake extra steps
@FazBlud1 hahha.. wow.. you're retarded.. just go to bed. he stops his dribble and takes TWO steps.. he doesn't pick the ball up just refrains from dribbling.. doesn't palm the ball and doesn't go up and over with it.. then he jump stops..
@mymovielifetm okay fair enough, hesitation move. then 2 steps, THEN jump stop. ball doesnt touch the ground. so hes not dribbling. so its a TRAVEL. wow youre retarded
@FazBlud1 Maybe it's because of the fact that I'm a huge Spurs fan, but it did look like a hesitation move. He HESITATED his dribble, which does require a bit of slowed progression in dribbling, but he still dribbled, making the play valid. So the play does count, as does the shot.
@FazBlud1 yeah you were wrong about how may steps.. about him picking up the ball. i didn't say anything about a half dribble.. just the refraint from dribbling.. the statue of liberty dunk is completely irrelevant. he's not palming the ball.
@mymovielifetm@mymovielifetm watch at 29 seconds. he picks up the ball with one hand, pushes away the defender, takes his 2 steps, jumpstops and then holds it with 2 hands. "refraining from dribbling" is picking the ball up. either youre dribbling or you aint. and in the statue of liberty dunk, you pick up the ball with one hand right? thats picking the ball up, not refraining from dribble or carrying, you go immediately into your 2 steps. that was my point.
@FazBlud1 he doesn't have control of the ball until he's in the air.. it may look funny because its all in one motion but he doesn't gain full possession until he's in the air.
@mymovielifetm if he was to dribble it once or twice more before his jump stop then it would have been perfectly acceptable. its the fact that he picks it up with one hand in the first place.
But it's actually a travel cause if you look carefully, he lands on his right foot first, instead of both feet, so it's not a jump stop. But that's really hard (if not impossible) to see without the aid of vids and slo mo...
@d01110111 Legal play under NBA rules. A player is allowed two steps after the ball is gathered. In the play, the ball is gathered with his right foot on the floor. The first step is step back with the left foot. The second step occurs on the jump stop. Ginobli would not be able to pivot after this jump stop. Know the rules and then apply them....

so many bloody morons, that is in no way a travel, he stopped dribbling one step before he took the step back... anyway the commentators would've picked it up - NOT a travel
@TripleZZZx3 look again, he bounces the ball on the step back, then takes the first step without dribbling on his left foot, and gathers on both feet and shoots, thats 3 steps. Text book travel. Steps back off his right foot on his last dribble, onto the left, takes first step off his left foot into his gather, and then plants 2 feet on the ground, which is 2 steps. all without dribbling. So thats one of the left, then lands on the right and the left. 3 steps, imagine he is doing a 1 foot layup
@sathernut but if it was a travel then the refs would've picked it up, i mean the NBA doesn't hire any old guy who knows the basics rules of basketball these refs are world class... you think they might be able to spot a travel, it might be the bad angle from which this video was shot
yeahhh ginobili make a travel!!!!!!!!!!

@FazBlud1 wrong, lebron either goes up and over with the ball or doesn't time his steps perfectly like manu does here.. you're a dumbass.
mymovielifetm 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm either way he picks up the ball, takes 3 steps and jumps. which is a travel. times his step perfectly pfft. he takes a step, picks up the ball with one hand, takes another step, jump stops and then shoots. picking the ball up with one hand is still picking it up, you cant call it half a dribble or anything other bull shit. eg, the statue of liberty dunk - you pick up the ball with 1hand, take 2 steps and dunk. just cos you pick it up with1 hand doesnt mean you cantake extra steps
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@FazBlud1 hahha.. wow.. you're retarded.. just go to bed. he stops his dribble and takes TWO steps.. he doesn't pick the ball up just refrains from dribbling.. doesn't palm the ball and doesn't go up and over with it.. then he jump stops..
mymovielifetm 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm "refrains from dribbling" = picking up the ball. stop trying to sugar coat it you pussy
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@FazBlud1 nah you're wrong.. its called a hesitation move fuck tard.
mymovielifetm 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm okay fair enough, hesitation move. then 2 steps, THEN jump stop. ball doesnt touch the ground. so hes not dribbling. so its a TRAVEL. wow youre retarded
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@FazBlud1 Maybe it's because of the fact that I'm a huge Spurs fan, but it did look like a hesitation move. He HESITATED his dribble, which does require a bit of slowed progression in dribbling, but he still dribbled, making the play valid. So the play does count, as does the shot.

@mymovielifetm oh and my LeBron comment was sarcastic. little bitch

@FazBlud1 poor use of sarcasm queer bait

@mymovielifetm haha, ah case closed you little bitch.
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@FazBlud1 yeah you were wrong about how may steps.. about him picking up the ball. i didn't say anything about a half dribble.. just the refraint from dribbling.. the statue of liberty dunk is completely irrelevant. he's not palming the ball.
mymovielifetm 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm @mymovielifetm watch at 29 seconds. he picks up the ball with one hand, pushes away the defender, takes his 2 steps, jumpstops and then holds it with 2 hands. "refraining from dribbling" is picking the ball up. either youre dribbling or you aint. and in the statue of liberty dunk, you pick up the ball with one hand right? thats picking the ball up, not refraining from dribble or carrying, you go immediately into your 2 steps. that was my point.
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@FazBlud1 he doesn't have control of the ball until he's in the air.. it may look funny because its all in one motion but he doesn't gain full possession until he's in the air.
mymovielifetm 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm if he was to dribble it once or twice more before his jump stop then it would have been perfectly acceptable. its the fact that he picks it up with one hand in the first place.
FazBlud1 1 year ago
@mymovielifetm watch the replay agian, the ball is in his left hand when he takes that first step on his left. TRAVELLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

mr1996wwe 1 year ago

Read the rulebook before commenting here!
One step, then jump stop = 2 steps
v=VnFToWP3R4I
But it's actually a travel cause if you look carefully, he lands on his right foot first, instead of both feet, so it's not a jump stop. But that's really hard (if not impossible) to see without the aid of vids and slo mo...

@ProliMan
no way he lands on his right foot, then drift back on the left, then goes to the jump stop that's 3

@TripleZZZx3 THE MONK WAS TRAVELLING AND YOUR SPURS ARE BORING
alvinjason10 1 year ago
@alvinjason10 i dont go for spurs im just saying in my personal opinion i dont think that was a travel
TripleZZZx3 1 year ago
@TripleZZZx3 look again, he bounces the ball on the step back, then takes the first step without dribbling on his left foot, and gathers on both feet and shoots, thats 3 steps. Text book travel. Steps back off his right foot on his last dribble, onto the left, takes first step off his left foot into his gather, and then plants 2 feet on the ground, which is 2 steps. all without dribbling. So thats one of the left, then lands on the right and the left. 3 steps, imagine he is doing a 1 foot layup
sathernut 1 year ago
@sathernut but if it was a travel then the refs would've picked it up, i mean the NBA doesn't hire any old guy who knows the basics rules of basketball these refs are world class... you think they might be able to spot a travel, it might be the bad angle from which this video was shot
TripleZZZx3 1 year ago
@TripleZZZx3 ROFL your kidding right? search "nba travel" and let the lolz begin.
