PS: Not believing in a god and being aware that we are 100% responsible and that there is no life after death does not necessarily make you feel better, it can be tough and scary is makes difficult times harder to deal with if you don't have anything you can cheat yourself with. It makes you feel better in the fact that you believe that you are making a rational, realistic decision. Atheism keeps one from feeling stupid or out of control by only putting faith in what you know. In an arguement, however, that belief can be and is often warped into a claim to disprove religious believers. My point is that if you are going to claim God doesn't exist, you have just as much of an obligation to prove it as any Christian. If you're an Atheist that does not claim, but rather believes, then obviously this doesn't apply.

Accepting proven scientific theories is not even necessarily an atheist thing. Many religious people don't have a problem with scientific facts and I'd say that you will be hard pressed to find many Western or Northern European christians who think creation is true.

Atheism keeps one from feeling stupid or out of control by only putting faith in what you know. One could argue that atheists are afraid of expanding their minds past what can be explained to them, just like it can be argued that those who are religious are "cheating themselves". Wrong, a scientific, proofable theory is inarguably correct, reality is inarguably reality while religion and other mystical and esotherical concepts are belief systems that cannot be proven whatsoever. In fact even the concept of "heaving faith" and it's effect on the psyche and even the body can be analizsed just like any other mental condition.

Religious people constantly lie about science and want creationism taught in schools. We fall behind in the world as a country because of this. Pew research has shown that societal ills are greater among religious communities, ie teen pregnancy, STD's, divorce, spousal abuse and obesity to name a few. This is why we condemn it....

Even if someone doesn't believe in god(I use god here to mean any concept of god, be it Allah, Jehovah, or Krishna, or even The white from the Dark tower books) it still exists as a concept, and an idea, so it's still there to hate.
After all if you couldn't hate something you couldn't believe in how could people hate villains and love heros that only exist in books?
