back when i was about this age, we set up a similiar lane in our basement....i practiced for my saturday afternoon league at least 3 times a week even using the scoring sheets we used in the era prior to automatic scoring...
Yes, a softball. There were also croquet balls and the very lightweight plastic (hollow) balls that came with the set of pins. The softball got the most realistic reaction, except that it tended to bounce due to the stitching. The hollow plastic balls that came with the toy pins were just too light and deflected way too much. The croquet balls didn't deflect at all, and were a little too small. The size and weight of the softball made it the best choice. Too bad it bounced so much.
Looks like your reactive resin softball has a dull surface, You should put in in the ball polisher for the 50cent cycle so it will read the lane a little later. And keep it outside 10! The middle of the lane is flying!! ;) Love this vid!
I commented on the other video of this lane as having one just like it as a kid. I used motor oil to oil the first 12 feet of the lane to slow down the hook for as a ball we used a plastic toy version of a Candlepin ball. I see you also had a set of the higher scoring colored pins over the lower scoring white pins. I had like 4 sets of colored pins so I took out all of the yellow ones and made a matching set in a color close to white. Tons of 300's with those pins and 1, 300 on the white ones.
can u show how to make the lane

Well, yeah. If you'd read the info about the clip, you'd have seen that it was, indeed, shot in 1981.

how on earth would he curve that ball? short lane, no oil, whats the deal?
MBfilmproductions 2 years ago 2
you do realise, that a bowling lane is only oiled about 3/4 of the way up?
the reason it hooks is because theres no oil.
