Actually, he was probably 24 since he was born in 1893 - depending on what month this was shot. The glass character eased in rather quickly and became rapidly popular as well. Roach was a very rich man already in 1917 traveling abroad. They made a good team, even though they didn't always hit it off so well...

Hawold (bou bou) at 23, skinny and breathtaking, is just starting out here with his "glass character". It's still "knockabout" stuff, and though audiences loved it, it ain't no Kid Brother or Safety Last. It amazes me how slowly this character developed, at least over 2 years. Hal Roach must have been incredibly patient, either that or early Harold was a cash cow.

Why do we love him so? Did women sigh over him back then, or just see him as another funnyman like Ben Turpin or Chester Conklin?

I adore Harold Lloyd and I have alot of his films The problem with this one is it's going too fast,it needs to be slowed down.I can't even read what was on the card that was given to the father,other than that,it's great!
