Horses were built to sleep standing up... they are in danger to preditors when they ar laying down. And yes their bodies are too heavy to support the weight lying down for long periods of time. Don't care what major a person has.... Someone that grows up around horses can know just as much if not more then a college graduate!
@cowgirlupgood You're crazy..Yeah they sleep standing up SOMETIMES..They also lay down and sleep in the sun..they roll around..They sit.. They lay down when they want to..Being on their sides for a long time..Like hours..Will; eventually damage them..but they arent stupid..If something is hurting them..They'll show it.
@MrCroPDOG you really are stupid, don't you? horses are lying down by themselves like all the time! they sleep in that positition. you shouldn't say anything if you don't know anything.
@Forevereverfull Actually the average horse sleeps standing up, and it's healthier for them to sleep standing up because they shouldn't lay down for long periods of time as it can put too much pressure on their lungs.
@Hantarrrrr Actually horses can only get into a REM sleep if they are laying down. The deepest sleep must be laid out flat with the legs stretched out straight. My mares choose to lie more than stand for their naps. It's a common misconseption that horses shouldnt lay down. In order for it to damage it must be an extremely long amount of time, and horses don't normally sleep for periods long enough to cause any pain.
@jumpersaw Really now? I've known many horses that never slept lying down, are you sure about this? Do horses need a certain amount of REM sleep? Huh, learn something everyday!
@Hantarrrrr Really, I'm an equine major. We studied the sleep habits of a horse. Everyone needs a certain amount of REM sleep. A lot lie down when there is no activity around them (hence you aren't there to see) because that is when they are most vulnerable. They may not get into that sleep every day/night but need the more they get it the better.
@Hantarrrrr Do you watch these horses 24/7? I didnt think so..if you did I'd be worried about you. Horses Sleep laying down when they have nothing to be concerned about..Meaning, no other animals around..People..When they feel safe.
ahhh!(: yall speak russian! i know russian!! my mom is from russia and i grew up with her speaking russian to me!!(: pretty horse by the wayy! i ride horses too!
@horsesaremylife31899 every horse that i have known has turned into biters when they have been hand fed. it doesnt mater if you feed them suger cubes or peaches if they think you have food in your hands, they will try to get it and biter at your hand.
Were you trying to get him to lie all the way down? I am sorry I don't speak French(?). If you are, I have seen and used a technique of gently pushing against the neck, then releasing the pressure, then pushing again. Within a short time, my horse was lying down on his side, and allowing me to love on him. Our relationship grew a great deal from there, let me tell you!
Beautiful horse, have you posted anything further since this video?

Hand feeding them does NOT make them biters what a bunch of crock!
akitaakita2 1 year ago
@akitaakita2 yes it does. My horse used to bite my hands because the lady that had him first hand feeded him.

@spiritmyluv I hand feed my horse all the time hes sixteen and he dont bite! Not all of them do! Most do but not all!!!!!
BoneseysProduction 1 year ago
@spiritmyluv
No they don't.
Only if you let them descide when they get the food.
If you teach them to wait patiently before they get the treat, they will never bite to get a treat.
I'll even say this: Horses that bite for food are just badly trained.
