  • What was her score?

  • Is it harder to do that mount facing the front of the beam the way she did here, or from the side. Cause if I'm not mistaken, I think she used to do the same mount from the side. Is there a difference in difficulty?

  • Absolutely amazing routine! GOLD!

  • So tiny oh my god!

  • @simplystreeptacular I know right!! her layouts are nothing compared to strug. she also is so flawless

  • Her style is a bit like Dominique Moceanu, although she is much more flawless.

  • wow, poetry

  • I love how at @0.21 she keep her legs stretched and together as long as possible before separating them to pass by the beam. Those small details make the routine so tidy and attractive.

  • THAT LANDING!!!!!!!!

  • her coach lol

  • ...and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do a world-class beam routine.

  • @simplystreeptacular No kidding! I remember watching these Olympics as a teenager, and I still think it's one of THE BEST beam routines I've ever seen.

  • pure artistry on the balance beam. Gorgeous.

  • shes good- she should have won

  • 9.862

  • what was her score?

  • 0:56 that skill is called the Miller --and well done this time ;D (back dive 1/4 turn to handstand, 1/2 turn pirouette to front split in handstand)

  • she is obviously amazing

  • ahhh i love her back extension rolls :) too bad all the artistry and creativity is gone from the sport *sigh.* stupid new scoring system :(

  • This girl is the greatest gymnast who ever lived point blank. I'm so lucky to have grown up in a generation where I got to see these shot live. This was definitely one of the greatest moments in Gymnastic history.

  • i loved this recording of her event final, it was so nice to not have to hear annoying elifie and tim, you could really feel the tension in the Georgia dome

  • I would jump out of happiness if Shawn Johnson would execute her dismount just like this one!

  • does somebody know how much this routine would score in 2009-12 COP? or maybe the A pannel value? - this looks pretty current to me...

  • I never saw this routine from this angle, Thank you!!!

  • Much better than the the gymnastic champions nowadays

  • i love her very 90s scrunchy obsession! lol! she so deserved to win! i love her coaches reaction! i wish gymnastics was like it was then

  • i have a best friend who is an AMAZING GYMNAST she is going to be in 2012 olympics in london, she has practiced the full in and the patterson with 2 backhandsprings going into it, she said the full in is MUCH more difficult even though the patterson is a blind landing the full in needs more power and its sooo difficult to land. so the full in is more difficult.

  • i agree,, the full in is more going on in the air,, but the arabian is blind,, so i guess its whats easier for the gymnast

  • I was so happy for her!!! She deserved an individual GOLD Olympic medal and finally got one & there was absolutely no question that she was the best on beam that night. She was also clearly the best on compulsary beam as well.

  • helllllll yeah!!!

  • My grandma is in this. Stop at 00:05 and she's the 7th person if you count left, raising her head with the glasses and dark hair.

Anyway I think this is amazing how they actually do this stuff. There's around 7 years of practice? To land on a very thin platform and backflip off and land again is incredible. LOL.....

    Mrs. Incredible. (Literally. Elasigirl)

  • your grandmother was a judge at the olympics?

  • Yeah. I'm with her right now in Seattle.

  • That is so awesome! 1996 Olympics was the best. I'll never forget them :)

  • Is your Grandma a judge?

  • what place did she get?

  • She won the gold medal.

  • her medal winning is almost similar to shawn johnson..

  • haha, i noticed too! should add that for AA, miller lost to gutsu and shawn lost to nastia (might as well say she's soviet).

  • her dismount is an E element that means it is the hardest dismount in gymnastics

  • Actually, the Patterson is a harder dismount than this one.

  • No it isn't

  • Yes, it is. The Patterson is two back handsprings into a double arabian dismount--the hardest dismount in gymnastics.

  • I know what the Patterson is and it is not more difficult then the full in.

  • Though the Patterson and the full-in are both G elements, Carly tumbled into her dismount, leaving her less power and making her dismount more difficult than Shannon's.

  • First of all Carly could have done a triple full into her move and it still would not be more difficult then the Patterson dismount because the Patterson dismount is singular.

Second Miller didn't need to tumble into her dismount to get the height needed to perform the full in.

I have trained both moves and the full in is much harder

  • As have I, and in my experience, tumbling into dismounts is much harder, as are blind landings such as the Patterson.

  • In a perfect world, Patterson's dismount would be harder, but she had a severe cowboy in her dismount. That being said, Shannon always landed this dismount with her chest down and had leg sep during the salto. I would say it's a draw.... and since both are Gs in the COP, it really is a moot argument.

  • You are right, it is more difficult. In the current code it is a G, and the full-in is an F. Blind Lindings are always harder, people.

  • Wrong. BOTH are Gs in the 2009-2012 COP. And here are the element numbers: arabian double salto tucked (6.703), double salto bkwd tucked OR piked with a 1/1 twist (6.705).

  • Didn't the FIG rate the full twisting double back and the Patterson both as G elements?

  • this is really good, perhaps one of the best routine i've ever seen in olympics!

  • the thing that is weird though is that this was her last event ever in her last olympic so that was tottaly lucky! obvouisley she has skill to win, not saying it was all luck, but isent it amazing your last olympic rutine at your last olympic and you finnaly win the indicvual olympic gold medal that you deserve, that is why shannon miller is so inspiring! i love her so much, that really was a well deserved olympic gold medal, not really any gymnast can get one on beam to, GO SHANNON MILLER!!!!!!

  • i always knew shannon miller would get an indicual gold meadal!

  • Totally agree!!!

  • WONDERFUL! Oustanding routine, and a well-deserved Olympic Gold Medal!

  • You are so right. This was her only realistic shot to win an individual gold at her final Olympics and she came through.

  • Thanks for posting this, I have seen the NBC version about 1000 times, and this is a better angle of her work and the dismount.

  • Much agreed! I especially like the angle of her dismount; it appears that she sticks it, compared to the NBC version where you can see the slight hop backwards.
