It's nice to see that someone shares the love of Celtic Woman AND the Horatio Hornblower series! I really enjoy this video. The arrangement of it with th song is very well thought out and executed. Nice job!
I love this song, i really want the sereis can someone tell me where to buy them and also the books please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers :) !!!! THIS IS A TRULY GREAT SPIRITUAL SONG !
Bookman's sells the entire collection of Horatio Hornblower, also our library here is always selling them because nobody *gasps!* reads them, and so the librarian's figure they can reclaim some of their money spent buy selling them whilst also taking them off the shelves and making way for other, more "modern" books.....sad, I know, that many don't know of Horatio.
I don't think Hornblower is really in love with Maria at all... he is a very kind, compassionate man, and this was the best way to help Maria and her mother out of penury. The books are more clear about that. Eventually he falls in love with the Duke of Wellington's sister and marries her (Maria having died several years earlier in childbirth).
I just discovered this series and have yet to read the books. But there is a very interesting commentary by director and producer of the series on the dvds. They discuss the true relationship of Hornblower and Maria as told in the books. He felt indebted to her because she helped him. He was also fond of her, but not in love. After he proposes, he realizes what he has done. You can see by his expression. But, being the honorable man that he is, he must go through with his committment.
This edition of the song is wonderful, and the singer is a very talented woman, I think :) Scarborough Fair are a great song overall, I have sung it a few times live :)
I think that Horatio got his happy ending with Maria as he should. She is perfect in all, patient and giving him the freedom a man like him wants. They have a truly remarkable and strong relationship :)
And your video is nice to see, because it is made so well! :D
I guess I should leave the video open for interpretation. I do agree, it's a great song, though and I envy anyone who can sing it. I can't carry a tune to save my life!
Wow. I'm normally not very fond of the "fan videos" for this series, but this was beautiful. It was perfect for the relationship between Horatio and Maria, she does wish for him to love her, but she sees his duty as a barrier. This almost made me cry because it was so well done. The clips seem to be made for the song. I've never heard the lyrics to this version of Scarborough fair and it gave me chills watching it. WELL DONE!!!
You described, so well, what I was thinking when I made this vid. It's NOT a vid FOR their relationship's success, but how it can never be. His love & loyalty to the sea, will always be the barrier between them or anyone, I believe, he might have married.
I've always thought of this song as very very sad, and this was just listening to the music and the first verse, and when I saw this video I was inwardly shouting "YES, BEUATIFUl" even though it is sad, it perfectly captures their relationship. I'm glad some one with some video talent was able to make these two (clips and song) come together so well!
It's a shame I can't see this video on mobile, love the song and the actor. :(
