@Thezodiacdragon777 No pool? Yep. Dumbo's frill is missing in one shot, too. There are several continuity errors in the film, especially the opening sequence, in which handlers wear casual clothes in long shot, but band uniforms in close-up! Clothing colours are inconsistent in some shots, too. This film was done in a hurry to release something while Walt was occupied with distribution business, but the various artists' individual creativity has never been surpassed.
OK - 2:20 into this clip, the mouse looks down and realizes they're up in a tree. When he looks down, there is only a couple bushes. But at 2:45, after crashing through the branches, they land in a pond. WHERE DID THE POND COME FROM?
You can look at this clip and see racist overtones, or you can see the early examples of how mainstream America was initially exposed to jazz and the african american culture.
The history of race relations is a rocky path. Supressing something as clever as this clip because you see overtones out of their historical context is the bigger sin.
@songcatcher0902 Exactly. There is subtle satire in the piece, and such jive talk can be heard on many jazz and blues records of the time. The small crow with big round glasses resembles Ward Kimball, the Irish-American animation director and a jazz trombonist. The crows are free, witty, cool and more generous and likeable than any human character in the film. Incidentally, in the script the lead crow was called Dandy. "Jim Crow" was added in a cast list for the second release.
I love this song it's such a good transition into the song, all the characters are legitimate, the lyrics are politically correct and it's just such an awesome song
@cory1342 ahaha i just noticed that! and that could be 2 reasons. 1. that was just their way of playin around by imitating eachother. and 2. maybe there was a mix up with the recording ahahaha in the studio while dumbo was being made ahahah
I think Hall Johnson Choir gets credit for most of the singing. But I'm confused. I thought Cliff Edwards was a white entertainer, also known for his singing as Jiminy Cricket. Of course, he could be singing the part of "Jim Crow" regardless.
By the way, I think our country has come far enough to appreciate this song without emphasizing its stereotyping.
One of the most catchy songs from early Disney! It´s fun how it goes not even 5 min and the next songs starts and next 5 min and the end to the film. This is one of the shortest Disney Movies!

Peanut stand? Should be hotdog stand, yes? I guess he had never seen a hotdog stand either, but I seriously doubt that.

@ssx47 The lead crow is apparently named "Jim Crow", possibly an unintentional reference to the Jim Crow laws.
