  • what is the scientific name of this mushroom?

  • @drabbadon Most likely Psilocybe cubensis (originally named Stropharia cubensis). Other possibilities include Psilocybe zapotecorum and P. caerulescens/mazatecorum, among a few other relatively robust American psychoactive species.

  • Littering and? Littering and? Littering and?

  • Comment removed

  • wtf ive eaten shrooms and neveer gotten super powers

  • i need to get some that shit

  • "and now?" "now to eat the mushrooms" YEAHHH

  • hehe westerners

  • Now -this- doesn't seem like acting at all. Haha. There was either definitely some real mushroom ingestion going on in this segment, or else the host actor got considerably better at his job between parts 1 and 2.

  • I've tried magic mushrooms last year, a friend brought them from amsterdam, it was a lifetime experience! the effect lasted roughly for 16 hours, i thought i was crazy and will stay that way forever

  • mow a half ounce of shrooms.. and youll see what they can do to your mind

  • Proving once and for all that NON SENSORY PERCEPTIONS are perceptions of NON SENSE.... huh...

  • "oh i see" false. you are currently blindfolded.

  • alright alright... i'm ready... now which one of them are we eating? brilliant!!!!

  • will mushroom ingestion improve the color perception of a color-blind individual?

  • @blankopus yes and no. Different sort of thing, like seeing sound and smelling color and hearing taste. And it was a real long time ago, so. . .

  • @blankopus try and find out, it certainly can't hurt :)

Terrence McKenna theorized that the improved contour and color perception made early humans better hunter - gatherers after taking the shroom, but as far as I know the effect is temporary. In any case a shrooming experience will give you much, much more than a fleeting glimpse of color :)

  • Legalize it right now.

  • The always arch John Newland not an actor? Though being not a very good one, it was his profession.

  • The always arch John Newland not an actor? Though being not a very good one, it was his profession.

  • and now to eat the mushroom..

Alright i'm ready.. which one do I eat? You have so many here Andre, which, which one do I..

LOL! he was really keen to eat!

  • The colors, man! The colors! I can hear the colors and taste the sound! This dude is totally HIGH!!! The sacred shroom is great sautéd or on a salad or on a burger or in a sauce! Enjoy!

  • great post thx

  • saw the clouds turn into sad faces and melt. also saw my ceiling come closer to me like it was falling on me. not to mention trees bending and clouds moving at the speed of light. its intense. i couldnt talk i was blabbering shit all the time :D

  • Just makes me paranoid, laugh and fart. If i new this i would have ate some before the horse races.

  • Lay on the bed, Why?, Will do some tests before the effects kick in... what?, what effects?... you'll find out! Hahaha definetly not the kind of guy you want to introduce you into a strong psychedelic or strong drugs if you are a beginner.

  • what a waste of a good trip ..... :(

  • how the fuck can he talk while on shrooms. the last time I ate some, I ate about 4g's dried and I was in a kind of trance state where I felt like if I was god. not that me(pedro) was god but like if I was god and I forgot I was me and believed I was pedro... in summary it is something beyond words.

  • @pedro121191 wo dude ive never had a trip like that on shrooms before but i could see how that could happen. perception becomes reality when your tripping. the only time i had trouble talking was on payote but thats cause it was so hard on my stomach that when ever i tryed talking it made me feel like i was going to throw up

  • that guys defo a actor!

  • Critics of drugs;if you don't like em, don't try em, but, equally, don't by means of law try to limit me to what I can/can't put in my body. I respect your right to free speech that drugs are bad. So respect my view that some, mushrooms in particuliar, are good, in moderation of course, for MY mind body and soul. If a government can tell me not to ingest a part of nature, I'm not fee

  • @PerceivedPerception1 Yeah, maybe since we're banning nature we should just ban ourselves while we're at it. It's absolutely no different than racism, except aimed at another species.

  • @creephorse -Thats a pretty intelligent way of putting it. It may surprise people when I say I am a devout christian. Not a christian that protests gays, or goes to church on sundays or whatever. But a christian in the way that I follow the new testmant and the words of Christ. And the funny thing is, is that SO MANY so called "christians" are damn near anti-christ, judgemental and so forth.

I believe in freedom of choice, or free will. and as long as there is no victum, there is no crime.

  • I bring this up because religion has played a major factor in many things on. There are people that wear bracelets that say "what would jesus do?" and these same people attack gays, drugs users ect. Apparently they 4got what Jesus said about loving thy neighbore and thine enemy, as well as how mcuh he spoke out against HYPOCRITS. If one is atheist, christian, muslim ect,...fine. I'm chrisian and therefore, would BE a HYPOCRITE to tell you your wrong. Just as well, to tell 1 what 1 can/can't do.

  • @creephorse again, not matter what your nationality, race, color creed, religion, sect, opinion, dominion, political spectrum, faith, mind, opinion, belief in a God, doubt in a God, faith in science, lack of faith in science, orgin of country, nationalism, patriotism, hatred, compassion, skin color, eye color, culture and son on. We must all be extremely respectful of each other's decisions in life, even if we ourselves don't share the same perspective...

    again, AGREE 2 DISAGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @graves913 - yes! It opens the 3rd eye. It's a shortcut to the state of mind (samadhi) meditation can lead to according to Yogananda and the masters. It's called soma in the Hindu Vedas. Some believe it was the original sacrament "body of Christ" in early Christianity. It opens us to intense self evaluation and can lead to incredible pain as well as ecstatic euphoria. One must be foolhardy or courageous to go deep. It can change you profoundly.

  • I think they only seem like actors because the culture was so different back then, that if anybody were to behave that way now they would have to be acting. We're just not used to seeing people from 1961 these days, unless it's in film, being acted.

  • 4:50 "strong, a sense of well being!" If only the human population was educated to be responsible instead of dumb consumers, then we could all enjoying the benefits of being strong and have a sense of well being........considering our best minds think the planet only has 10 years left for us, a sense of well being is probaly not possible anymore.

  • having grown mushrooms and having collected trash bags completely full of them, its hilarious to read the comments of the people that havent done them. You TRIP YOUR BALLS OFF, and its fantastic. Its very close to lsd, but cleaner. The colors are very bright, and you go to a place that is indescribable!! The high last about 8 hours or more.

  • eating this mushroom is like smoking weed...i think it makes you high..

  • @cloud11223344 well i wouldnt say the two are really anything alike. weed makes you feel good. shrooms make you hallucinate

  • Makes me want to eat some!!! Can't say that I ever took them and experienced ESP but I sure did have a hella good time lol..awsome doco!!

  • I enjoy watching these old films. Pioneers venturing into the psychodelic realm. ... It wasn't known to society as a bad thing then...

  • It opens your third eye

  • I did shrooms when I lived in Arizona. Would I ever like some again?

  • my buddy told me that mushrooms will make you trip sweaty donkey balls, he told me that everything went in slow motion and he saw shadows of people who were there then left, freaky

  • man he only ate 2 lol you want extra-sensory you need atleast 5 of those first time

  • "What effects?"

    "You'll find out."

    HILARIOUS! He found out, alright!

  • This is Awe-inspiring: The early days of psilocybin, only one year after Leary tried them for the first time in Cuernavaca, only three years after Hoffman synthesized the "active ingredient." And dig the pure, unadulterated response of the visiting scientists and the show's host--he has absolutely no preconceptions about psychedelic effects, never heard of psychedelics. We are seeing here a truly first-hand virgin response.

  • Newland never attested to having any esp abilities

  • ..."marvellous sensation", priceless...

  • what effects?! Aaahhh....youll find out.

  • haha 4:25

    With dreamachine!

  • Are You For or against? For or against?? For or against???

  • What?

  • @AmosNomore hello AMOSNOMORE, I am looking for a BBC broadcast from 1961 called - Eye on Research,The Sacred Mushroom- any idea where to find it?? Just asking because you have put up this wonderful video on Youtube, thanks!

  • @AmosNomore where did you find this old film?

  • @flyinghotwing After searching for years, I finally found it posted on a miscellaneous video website.

  • @AmosNomore good find

  • @AmosNomore i think they mean do you agree or disagree with psychedelics r or any other drugs. for example i like weed and i smoke weed and in reality is barely even harmless i think it should be legal again

  • @Chimpaliciousness I believe anyone should be able to alter their own consciousness in any way that doesn't physically harm another, without prohibition of any sort.

  • @AmosNomore exactly. who wants to live their whole life and not know what its like to break the boundaries of reality!

  • @AmosNomore Well said.. Its whats called....eh... Freedom, freedom of choice. And anyone who says they live in a free society and yet are not allow to partake of Consciousness Alterating "Plants" by Oneslef. does NOT live in a Free Society.. Remember people, "you can't be a little it pregnant", this is aklso one of those times were you either ARE or are NOT???

Free to be, so be Free...

  • @redtelephone66 for for for

  • @redtelephone66 i have tried mushroom once, with the full intention of getting every meaningful and substantial experience out of it, andhonestly ive never thought it would be exposed to me in a way SO familiar like i knew this state all along. Time i was observing throughout, but could not feel it. I wanted to be with everyone (i was alone) but somehow it did not matter because i was already with everyone(best way to explain it). Everything made sense, purpose, physicality, consciousness, being

  • Puharich discovered Uri Geller

  • Oh good, no more 'primitive' people who are in no way primitive at all.

  • next vacation: MEXICOOOOOOO

  • I wanna buy some of these -_-

  • 2:01 LMFAO

  • MY KINSMAN MAJOR MOLINEUX ___

    a mushroom tale.

  • haha yir he is ready =D

*They aint bad are they ?

    Taste just like mushrooms

  • what the hell is that light machine

  • is just giving light : )

When he is closing the eyes - and see the light flash fast, he will se many other thing.

    in the head.

  • @saltysamsquamsh What a horrible noise it makes, not what I'd want when I'm tripping

  • the shroom he is holding looks like a psilocybe cyanescen at the end of the video

  • Ya for sure.. a little big I think though.

I lived in Victoria last fall and we found a whole bunch of Cyans all over the place. Such good mushrooms!!! Very potent.

    Peace and love

  • This should be a required school movie.

Like, "The most dangerous drug ever"

Except this would be the opposite.

  • It has a power.. like noise...I don't know how to translate that into a picture... It seems to have.. that.. NOISE!! SPEED!!

  • "and what do we do now?"

    "now, to eat the mushroom."

    "alright, i'm ready. i'm ready!"

    haha he gets so excited

  • I had the most amazing time on the mushroom.

  • lol the guys all excited and shit

  • I have never eaten any of these magical mushrooms, however I can imagine that there are some that contain such toxin that it would indeed result in fantastical hallucinations and other extra sensory effects as a result.....Pure Mesculine is supposed to be the Father Of All Hallucinagenic toxins....either way WOW...very interesting video.

  • Actually psilocybin mushrooms are virtually non-toxic: "The toxicity of psilocybin is low; in rats, the oral [lethal dose is] approximately one and a half times that of caffeine... The lethal dose from psilocybin toxicity [in humans] is unknown at recreational or medicinal levels, and has never been documented... Nearly 1.7 kilograms of dried mushrooms, or 17 kilograms of fresh mushrooms, would be required for a 60 kg person to reach the [lethal dose] of rats."

  • everyone must grow,find,consume!!!!!

  • toxins.. psh, the real toxins are the plastics we are polluting our planet with, the GMO foods we are poisoning our children with, the additives and artificial synthetics we put into our foods and bodies, the toxic chemicals in our vaccines, arsenic, aluminum, baron, all the aerosols that our govts. are literally spraying us - as if we are infesting bugs.. there is so much toxicity and pollution around us and in our society

If we use these 'sacred' plants correctly they're safer than fast food.

  • it makes me quite dizzy... XD

  • they sure as hell don't show this in health class

  • "I feel strong!" Okay for a minute there do you think he went on a little mushroom trip???

  • Okay, now tell me, where can I get the mushroom????

  • dont do that hes guna get u killed lol

  • Ask around...

  • Imagine how things could have been if research like this had the opportunity to progress freely.

  • 2:00 he smashed his fingers. I bet that was a blooper but they kept going.

  • This is more like Leonard Nimoy or Jerry Orbauch's thingies than 0ne Step Beyond.

  • This video has a lot of truth to it. many poeple i know. and myself included have had visions or sensations of something that will happen soon. and it does in the very same way. although i dont like talking about neither of us do. The mushroom is very mysterious and powerful. Mother nature holds secrets.

  • pretty wicked

  • yeyeyes....

  • I love how anyone watching this who hasn't taken them is thinking "oh taking shrooms is just a bunch of colors and geometric shapes..."

hahaha yeah that's about 10% of it.

The last 90% there is no words in any language yet created to describe.

  • The enigma of the ineffable!

  • oh yes haha

  • @than217 you said it, no words. :P They don't make words that rips your soul down to it's pure essence.

  • @than217 spot on there, have not taken any in 10 years...feel like it is time again.

  • @than217 i didnt know what "tripping" really was till you experience that other 90%!

  • @than217 i think my last session was more like 2% visuals and 98% things i will never be able to describe...

  • he was awfully eager to get at those mushrooms! ;)

if only most people had that sort of enthusiasm towards it..

  • man , he was really high

  • This show was so ground breaking. Most weeks they retold stories that actually happened, but this one, cheesy as some of it seems, was ground breaking, considering John Neuland got this on the air in 1959.

  • hehe great.

  • the nine!!!

  • Is this really what happened? That's pretty amazing he did that well on the various tests! I never thought extra-sensory perception is enhanced by the shroom; it was always presented as a way to study regular sensory perception as a result of brain's reaction to the introduced neuro-chemical.

  • I can't think of any motivation for such distinguished individuals to falsify the results of this little study. Profound ESP is something which is experienced in many psychonauts using psilocybin mushrooms, especially in doses considerably above those considered "recreational". Telepathy has been reported fairly commonly in such cases, anecdotally. It would be so wonderful to see full-fledged scientific research into such properties of mushrooms and other psychedelics performed again.

  • Thanks to researchers such as Dr. Rick Strassman, author of "DMT: The Spirit Molecule", who opened the doors to a renaissance of psychedelic research with his DMT studies at the University of New Mexico in the '90s, the DEA and FDA have lightened up more than most people are aware in regard to such matters, and research into potential medical and other uses of such drugs as ketamine, psilocybin, LSD and ibogaine looks to be proceeding apace. See the MAPS website for more detailed information.

  • What about Cannabis. This should be the FIRST thing to study as its the most mild and has great healing effects for how ppl think

  • "uh, you'll find out" haha I love that

  • hahahahaha this is pure fucking gold!

  • @electricsugarcube bahahhahaha i know right! i laughed hella hard

  • mmm muchrooms

  • Hmm, I wonder what the Twilight Zone would have been like, had Rod Serling eaten mushrooms before doing his hosting duties.

  • Rod Serling eating mushrooms became the series Night Gallery! LOL!

  • Lol. There was once a rumor that he had tripped with some of his students at Antioch. It could be apocryphal, but it might explain Night Gallery, come to think of it.

  • Tastes just like Mushrooms! AHahaha! this guys awesome. you can hear how excited he is before he eats them. "They're Magnificent" "I've never been so aware of color... of color... I just want to dive into the middle of it!" Oh, this movie makes me want to eat mushrooms right now.

  • No, it isn't a tall building, just a damn ugly kid.

  • lol I thought the same thing

  • Of course when you've eaten some Mexican mushrooms you won't start tripping or loosen up at all, you'll just put on a blindfold, try to match up some cards and then fondle a few photographs.

No mention of any psychedelic effects at all...

  • there cubensis, dont fool yourself.

  • watch 5:17, idiot.

  • I love Mushrooms!!!

  • I've only gotten so far into this show, but the sheer fact that they're calling the shamans "brujos" (witches) rather than "curanderos" (healers) says a lot. Shamans can use the medicines to find out a lot about people, but the tradition has to be there. This tradition has been eroded to great extent by globalization and its discontents, and a lot of that knowledge is being unfortunately lost. (Luckily, domestic research on these plants has been resumed after years of stigmatization.)

  • Are they pretty? Yeth, vewy pweety.

Beta-glucan once gave me that feeling

of extreme wellbeing. It lasted about

two weeks with increasing doses and

then stopped. I felt like I had been

    meditating for 20 yrs.

  • how it is? tastes like mushrooms...I don't know but in this scene it might be fake. Mushrooms don't tastes like mushrooms... ;)

  • @ionman87 ...yes they do

  • i think it makes you more aware is all. you feel it with your finger tips and they get insanely more sensitive and might make it easier to your mind. just speculation.

  • hey andre...i think i'd like to eat another one

  • The government has no right to control your consciousness

    Free the shrooms

    Free the herb

    Free lsd & dmt

  • lol, this tests will bring you on a bad trip....

  • When he gets to see the pic he identified on shrooms..... i have also had the same reaction, when i had the "psychic sensation"

Mushrooms are a part of life you never thought could be possible.

  • What effects?... John you'll find out!

The strobe light and the constant talking looked like a recipe for a bad trip! If anyone wants to do research on bad trips--I volunteer my sister, who notoriously opens and closes the blinding-bright refridgerator door during scared journeys, and chatters.

  • Lol look at him trip nuts in front of the blinking light.

  • "now to eat the mushroom...."

    "OK! IM READY!"

  • This episode is mind blowing, now I have even greater respect for John Newland. I purchased a set with 50 chapters and unfortunately this particular one isn't among them.

  • Here John take the shroom we soaked in LSD anything happening?

  • i see trails man. i tripping my fucking brains out dude.lets smoke some pot too.this is great.

  • aint that poate? i don't think im spelling it right i had that stuff but chickened out at the min. btw i'm getting the entire 12 volume on dvd very soon.

    mynameisnobody

  • Way cool! I didn't even know this existed. I knew he had appeared on an old Perry Mason show. I wonder if that's posted somewhere?

I was kinda hoping the narrator became psychotic and tried to kill someone. LOL.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • My pleasure!

I probably would have lost it with the strobe and the camera crew and all. Ol' John Newland held it together nicely. He probably didn't eat many of the mushrooms, but I got a powerful contact high watching this video for the the second time in over 40 years. I was 3 or 4 when I first saw it on TV and was intrigued enough that, even at such a young age, I was certain the psychedelic mushroom would be a potent guiding archetype throughout my lifetime.
