Waaay back in the day, before YouTube, I found a live vid of this, one of the first City of Caterpillar I heard. Was amazing... Thanks for posting the song.
@anormalnick I will accept this explanation:) But I think that everyone should take the time to listen to the whole song. Its not the same without the intro.
This is the greatest song I've ever heard in my life, and I don't say that because I like the band. I just recently got into this screamo genre, but this is by far the greatest thing I have ever heard in my life. The build up is so atmospheric, the only thing I am disappointed about is the fact the lyrics don't make much sense, but i guess that is also good, because if they made sense then the song would get old, but this is like an adventure. Thank god I found this I was getting sick of Slayer
haven't listened to that song...but yes :D i can listen to this build up for days and never get sick of it. imo it's the best build up i've ever heard
@Gorglazon like ways and to be honest for a 5 and half minute build up it doesn't feel that long to me guess its cause of how much i love the rhythm lol
@kvltasfvkk so its saying basically that writing his feelings down (handwriting) seems to be the only thing that makes him feel safe( like thick fat on penguins that keep you warm in the cold), and he's noticed that his feelings seem more and more piled up( saturated fats, saturated means completely piled up)and he can tell that it's getting worse, so he feels like he has to get rid of these bad emotions ( saturated fats, which are REALLY bad for you)
@kvltasfvkk I think the song's about being on tour and all the madness associated with the long trips it involves. The lyrics aren't meant to make much sense, I think it's more about the crazy things that run through your head - "Why am I thinking of this right now!?"
@kvltasfvkk it means the band is trying to sound clever without being clever, or it's an inside reference that only the person who wrote the lyrics know.
anyone who likes Screamo, please add me as friends, or give me your msn and facebook. i am sick of my community being impossible to find, we must form tight communities like there used to be! we must use social networking sites to organise and make Screamo shows known to people like you and i who has no idea. hardcore is easier to find.
@xyugi0007 deathcore? what are you talking about, we need to organize to salvage whatever is left, you are blind if you can't see how disorganized and destroyed we are as a community.
Old screamo is not dead, but dying. Bands like Comadre, Funeral Diner and Ampere still exist. These bands started Screamo. With this said, I like all generations of Emo and Screamo and really say we should seperate it more by calling today's emo with Nu-emo/screamo or something. Hey, I'm a metal fan aswell :P
just a few bands: Thoughts Paint The Sky, Trainwreck, Aplinist (more into crust..), Escapado, Manku Kapak. they are all slightly different to the old screamo, and more post-hardcore orientated, but hey, music allways develops, and i would call screamo dying, or even dead! :O :)
@rakeria yeah. exactly my opinion. i mean, i listen to alesana myself. they arent anything special, and i dont like them too much, but sometimes i enjoy them. and i think it shouldnt be a crime to lsiten to 'fake' hardcore.
and i think the fact that so many people hate 'scene' also death metal -> deathcore, just fueled the fire.
jep. :) unforunately, escapado lost their vocalist and manku kapak are very unknown. the others are likely 'booming'. :) will see trainwreck and alpinist. :)
@LifevsMusic Lol, just call it Emocore. Will save ya sometime in writing and explaining xD
I like both death metal and deathcore. What seems a bit, umm, odd today is it seems you can't be scene and listen to emo and metal at the same time and not falling under anything special than into the "scene" stereotype (I'm living proof you can
Ah, shame. I heard ALOT of bands are doing emo-revival though, we'll see how it'll go. :)
i can imagine, that some people just came to old times because of the new times. i started to listen to the sex pistols after listening to green day. know what i mean?
yep, the first emo like bands, emotionally charged music actually came around the late 80's as a result of hardcore punk. Bands like Fugazi, Embrace, Beefeater, Rites of Spring, etc.
@LifevsMusic it did come out during the late 80's to early 90's but was short lived becuase "screamo" kinda came in and changed it, and hey punk brought emo so gotta love the punk bands to sex pistols ftw
This is very intresting. I like it but it's kinda long. I mean like almost 10 minutes. But its not about how long it is, right? Yeah well I like it. :)
Really deserves to be in a zombie movie. Reminds me of 28 Days Later (my fav movie). The anxiety and anticipation just climbs with this song, I love it.
@TheShnuz | yeah, city of caterpillar is very similar in their musical compositon to GY!BE (the band that made the song east hastings wich is used in 28 days later) I personaly think that city of caterpillar is a better band for switching it up with the post-hardcore stuff and having distinct vocals, but GY!BE (godspeed you! black emporer) is good in the fact that they manage to create such sound scapes and use the live visuls they do, they are much more expiremental aswell. both are good bands.
@TheShnuz It's because the guys from this band cite "Godspeed you, Black emperor" as one of their major influences, and thats the band that plays the real desperate sounding song from that movie :]

i hate using the term "emo" or "scremo" to describe this style even if that's how its supposed to be. I prefer to call it progressive hardcore :)
lobzunpreston 1 year ago
@lobzunpreston It's no shame calling it emo or screamo. The terms during these times meant diffrent things than today. For example
Emotive Hardcore(These times) = (Today) Emotional.
Old screamo is not dead, but dying. Bands like Comadre, Funeral Diner and Ampere still exist. These bands started Screamo. @rakeria i dont care about genres anyway. ;D
yeah, thats good. because some metalfans are too 'trve' to listen to deathcore, though they enjoy it... thats dumb. nothing more.
i fall into the scene stereotype. at least my outward appearance does.
and i just listen to the music i like. i dont care about stereotypes, scenes or trveness...
yeah, its good, and i would call it revival. the genre existed all along. ;) the newer bands are just promoting the 'evolution' of the genre. ;)
