  • What is the sign where he uses both hands to grasp in front of his lips?

  • great job! From one CODA to another ;)

  • I might already have commented on this... but this is an amazing interpretation! I love it! And I love Boyce Avenue :)

  • Who ever disliked this either doesn't know ASL or accidentally clicked the wrong button because literally, I don't see how the interpretation could be much clearer. Granted you are a CODA, there aren't many hearing people... or deaf people for that matter who could ever interpret something the way you do. I just graduated from the interpreting program yet still have much to learn and with one day I would be able to be half as good as you are. Beautiful job!

  • I love your choice of signs! You make me want to be a better interpreter! What's your story, where you learn sign?

  • You're the best dude !!

    God Bless u !!

  • ...So, after seeing this video did you convince your friend (for whom this video was initially made)?

I hope so. Awesome. I am now a huge, huge fan.

  • This was incredibly beautiful. Unfortunately, the English language doesn't allow me to fully explain how much I loved this. It is absolutely fantastic!

  • 1) Love your videos, chico!

    2) In your first point, you state that "The modality of ASL allows for the play of incredibly rich linguistic features. Features that are nonexistent in spoken languages." I'm interested to hear what those features are. I majored in Linguistics in college, but have never really studied signed languages more than the whole "signed languages are indeed LANGUAGES and not pantomime, and they are arbitrary" bit.

  • A colleague of mine (another interpreter) introduced me to you last week by showing me the "Handlebars" video. You are amazing, and absolutely love your concepts! *bowing at your feet* And, even though I've been studying sign for 8 years (I learned in college) I never become "tired" of ASL - It always blows my mind and touches my heart, like your interpretation for "Realize" did. Thanks for sharing your videos!

  • To be able to use only a couple of handshapes-THAT was amazing! And you proved your points. With how beautifully complex and rich ASL is, it is disheartening that mainstream "hearing" America cannot recognize this and DEMAND that all Deaf babies (AND their hearing parents) be required to learn this "linguistically superior" language. MY GOD, that was absolutely beautiful. You need to bring those points about ASL into mainstream America. EVERYONE needs to see your videos!

  • So basically i like;

    - that you chose the boyce avenue version of this song

    - that you sign so well

    - your headband....

    :)

    favorited all your videos. nbd.

  • you are such an inspiration. i hope to be as good as you someday. seriously.

  • I love you so much! :)

  • BEAUTIFUL! It was like looking at a piece of art. I can feel your love for music and ASL. The flow from sign to sign was wonderful. You were a part of the music and the song would not have been as great with out you. I have shown your work to people who do not sign and they even appreciate what you do. Great job, you are very inspiring! Well done!

  • DUDE I KNW YOU FROM CAMP YOUR AWESOME

  • I absolutely love this. Ive known sign language since I was about 8 years old and always been interested in learing more about it. This video is so amazing !

  • youre awesome.

  • You're such a gentle person. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this concept alone shows all the beauty you have within in you in order to outwardly express yourself like this. I only hope you know how special you are. And that specific uniqueness means exactly what you desire it to. This is a prerogative of the healers in this world.

  • You make me fall in love with your videos and you!! :) keep it up

  • i love your shirt.

  • I literally am in AWWW. of your work. You are Amazing. I have been learning ASL for about 3 years now, I recently graduated a program for Interpreting and moved to another one to get my BA. I am in love with what you are able to produce.

  • This is so beautiful. I almost cried. I don't think anyone can top your interpretation of this. I think this may be my favorite.... maybe.... at least one of them. Idk if I can pick just one.

  • I love how you convey concepts that are unexplainable in English. Seriously.

  • this video is absolutely beautiful. thank you for doing these. you have a gift.

  • you are an awesome signer im quite jealous!

  • 1. Point number four is understated. 2. My inner nerd wants to be friends with yours. 3. Your ASL versions of all of these songs make me appreciate them on a new level. 4. Point number one is why interpreting will never bore me. 5. Can making more videos be your full time job? I vote for that.

  • lindooooooooooo

  • do you know how to turn english songs into sign language?

  • Oh my goodness, I love your signing. It's so meaningful, some deaf kids and interpreters from my school introduced me to your videos. Go CODAs! I'm working on signing with more expression and meaning, not sure if I can work it like you can, but I'm gonna try! So inspiring. thank you.

  • @udunnome357 I'm a CODA and I TOTALLY feel the same way! :D

  • The way you did the bridge (the part "if you dont feel it too...etc...") was really great. It made me smile and feel all tingly inside. =)

  • I wish I could sing or sign or at least tell this one to you... but I don't sing, and I don't sign either... and I can't tell you this. miss you to death. ~F

  • Using CLs: 5, S, and 1 huh? Thats pretty freaking incredible dude. Cant believe you figured this out with just those CL's.

  • lml/

  • heya,..love boyce ave! they have amazing stuff..as do u ,..nice mix of my 2 favs..!

  • i wish you videos had more views

  • it is sooo hard to sign a song only using several handshapes without becoming repetitive or boring, you did it!! KUDOS!!

Your an insperation!! Not too bad on the eyes either!! ;-)

  • and your not at Gallaudet University WHY??? LOL You would be an AMAZING interpreter!!!

  • Somehow, my comments got deleted I guess, but I agreed with all the points, and it's still incredibly deep and beautiful. Great job! and Nerds are awesome.

  • @ASL8306 That was probably my fault - I seem to keep hitting "Remove" instead of "Reply"

  • I like watching ASL music videos with the sound off, just to try to see how much I rely on the music to understand the signs. Honestly, the music is a nice addition, but the core ASL is the best part of this video times a billion.

    Very inspiring!

  • your so amazing at signing. my ASL teacher made us watch like almost all your videos in class today, and she was interpreting what you were saying as we went through the video, and your meaning of what you thought the songs were saying were so intense. your a really inspiring person. one day i want to be able to do what you. :) thank you

  • ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

"if you just realize what i just realized..."

-and I realized that you can melt a heart using a few signs. Also I realized that no one has done such a great job like yours...

Well done, muy, pero MUY bien hecho! ...So proud to know there's still people con MUCHISIMO TALENTO

hahaha! oops estaba en la cuenta de mi hermano! sorry but you still GREAT!

  • My heart just melted. Amazing!

  • AMAZING....period.

You're an inspiration to interpreters such as myself...THANK YOU!

  • LOVE IT! Few handshapes works wonderfully and what a new added challange!

  • This took the English and threw it out the window. You always are able to do that so well.

This was even more impressive after I tried to terp it myself. WOW, guy, you have mad skills. :-)

  • I'm in high school and currently teaching myself sign. I hope to go to college and study ASL as well as spanish for interpreting. You are a pleasure and an inspiration to watch... as corny as that sounds =p

  • lovely!

  • ¿Qué te dije? Oye, espera para los premios de YT!!! LOL!

  • oh and love the shirt.

  • :) wow, well done. much love from Rhode Island!

  • Eric, I think you should do it again, withought the stipulations you were given. I'd love to see your "real" interpretation of this song. PLEASE!

  • and point proven! we still know what you mean!!!!

  • I'm a major fan of hand-shape rhyme in music! Another awesome video :)

  • Point well made! fantastic!

  • whoa, this is beautiful....

  • beautiful! i love it!

  • Your linguistic awareness of ASL astounds me. If you ever end up teaching somewhere, anywhere, let me know... I would love the opportunity to learn from you!

  • @obriensign me too!

  • You convey so much to the song into ASL!

So much emotion and expression in your signs and facial expressions! You turn any song into it's beautiful expression! I love your works of art, as do my Deaf friends who visit often.

    Love all-times, Hânh

  • Eric, that´s amazin.... first song since "Safe him" that brought tears into my eyes. It´s so damn poetic how you interpreted it, how so few handforms can convay the message.

You don´t have to be a very fast signer to be "interesting". The fascinating part is when you use few and make most of it. YOU DID!

Merry Christmas from Overseas!! (you made mine)

  • Priceless with the softness of the music! I loved it!

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS!!! Wish I had half your talent!!!!!!

  • This interpretation seems to be more of an ASL poem--especially because of the limited number of hand-shapes that you had to use-- than what one would think of as a stereotypical interpretation of a song. It still works very nicely with the lyrics, though, and the core message of the song is cleanly displayed. Nicely done!--I'm wondering how you chose which hand-shapes to use?

  • I love the way you sign!!!!! and your a very cute nerd..lol :)

  • I cried! You are the most beautiful Interpreter I have ever seen! Watching you sign ANY song makes my heart swell. It always makes my day! Thank You!

  • "Not the most exciting"??

This is one of the most beautiful interpretations I've seen! And I love that the entire thing is just index and fives. You've stripped this song down to it's core and shown its naked beauty to the world.

  • I agree, this is a great example of Eric's intelligence, creativity & skill :)

  • Bravo!!! Beautiful! Your very own ASL interpretation from the song CHAMPS! Keep up dear!!!

  • Beautiful. I don't know if that word covers it.

  • definitely a better version of this song...
