but John does use simple ass chords most of the time.

This guy just isn't like Mayer at all,

but Mayer uses simple chords all the time, becuase simple is best, and its the easiest way to lay lead over.

@JulianHuxtable He rarely ever uses simple chords, and when he does, he usually uses his flick technique. The only John Mayer songs, really, that use positively simple chords are Why Georgia, Not Myself, Stupid Mouth and Daughters.

If the chords don't switch keys, and they're not altered, it won't make a difference to the leads.

@JulianHuxtable I'm not discriminating against open chords, though, if they're used correctly and effectively, they're completely fine. You can't get the same bright and sustained sound out of barre chords (on acoustic).
