based on the way those jewish men are behaving, i am so very glad i wasn't born one of them......nor from any other place in the middle east .....they lack dignity
@jethro035181 If they made a movie about how 99% of us lived,it would never sell 5 tickets!Didn't you notice that most romantic films end 2 minutes after the lovers start their relationship? How about a sequel film part 2 10 years later with the 2 yuppies working 10 hour days?Statistically we have the lowest divorce rate in the world. Not that we hide our problems. We believe that we are 2 halves of 1 soul united. Our 7 children married young because they liked what they saw at home.
@RasMajnouni ...my comment was mainly directed at the rabbi's hangers-on...the men in the black suits...orthodox jewish men seem to lack a sense of politeness...their portrayal in this movie is fairly accurate and they are unnecessarily rude...news stories out of israel bear this out...the main characters in this film are just human like everyone else..normal...the supporting characters really rub me the wrong way...israelis, however, are the only rational people in the middle east
@jethro035181 Well, most of us black hats & beards live here in Israel. Are we ALL rude? How many Chasidim have you met?Are you judging by a film? There are rude among us.Since you might live in Tasmania for all I know, are there rude people there? Are all Californian crazy? If I went by stereotypes I'd have to hate Arabs. But our mixed villages link.We meet publically in stores.I know them to be intelligent, cultured, family oriented people, each person is a whole world.
@RasMajnouni ...there was a news story several weeks ago, where the israeli supreme court forbade jewish men from segregating women to the back of their buses..i lived in a hasidic ghetto for several years while going to school...the rent was cheap and the people were unwelcoming..being religious to the point of excluding any social graces is unacceptable, anywhere...i know several secular israelis here, and they're pleasant people..unfortunately, there's only time for stereotypes, nowadays
@jethro035181 You lived in a ghetto in America. Most Chasidim live here in Israel.I live in a small village next to Arab villages.Israelis outside of Israel are so worried about what the gentile will think.I don't know how you dress or if you go barechested with tatoos& earings but Torah forbids tatooing.Maybe you got to hate them earlier in life.Your distaste probly shows in your face.Do Indians on a reserve want anything but your loses at the casino or do they enjoy being a public museum?
@jethro035181 Strange how you demean 2 million people by writting your previous statement. We have a custom that people who accuse others of anything either as individuals or whole groups of people makes them suspect & then they are brought to court for inspection. You could not have been born Jewish. It wasn't G-D's desire. The world needs blacks, green people,Catholics,Protestants,Muslims, atheists ,loving other humans or we are just loving ourself."Jethro"?Read about him.
I love the Rabbi interaction and encouragement. That scene was a wonderful example of understanding, trust and vulernabilty. She must have felt very safe with him. We all fall short of God's perfection. When the Rabbi said what do Docotr's know about love...I agreed. I think he ended his life well and gave his precious wife a memory to cherish. She was beautiful.....Beauty is what Beauty does.
isn't she adorable? i recognized those eyes from the start. she was one of the chimpanzees in the original 'planet of the apes' movies. Zira, I think? Kim Hunter I think is her name.
this movie is so inaccurate . yes there are some finatic chassidim who over due things but most chassidim are great people . Its false to say that while being intimate with your wife you should only think of the holy act , you must feel intimacy as well . Still a great movie though just dont take the little details too seriousley
there is variation of thought on this issue (sex in marriage) within every religious group. He seems to be quite an ascetic. Sex for such types is often thought of differently.
I feel bad for this lady. Stuck with a husband who is so into his studies that he doesn't see the needs of his own wife or consider them for a second. Yet she also seemed to have had a bad attitude from the beginning. Everything that happens she has a miserable face. What's her deal?
She isn't happy, and wasn't from the beginning, because she wants a fulfilling sex life. In the end,I think that is what it comes down to.That doesn't make her shallow, or necessarily any more selfish than her husband. She probably would have stayed with him if he wasn't so convinced that enjoying the carnal side of sex was wrong. She probably would have felt very fulfilled, and have been a good wife to him.
But because their needs were so different from each other, they were just incompatible.

So he died from having sex? I suppose if you are going to go out, doing it while doing the funkies sure sounds perfect.

If there is a way to end this life. Let it be something as beautiful as that.
