@cmommsen1 I think the human is the most complex and the only organism,on earth, that has the capability to understand and choose whether it does something or not, other superorganisms have that link (sense of duty to the queen or maybe deeper, to earth) that obligates them to work for one or maybe its not an obligation just the smartest think to do to evolve, and because we have a choice to ignore that fact our awareness level brings us to the top of this list as the number one superorganism.

@cmommsen1 Hard to say, as I heard lately that number of microbes inside you outnumbers your cells 10 to 1 (so numerically you are over 90% microbes)! All the parasites on your skin, eyelashes etc. aside, you host around 500 species of bacteria in your gut, around 128 species in your lungs and up to 200 in your mouth and they perform important roles. I guess all of this combined could be labelled as superorganism. Some other life forms use bacteria as well, but maybe not to that level.

That's 100 percent microbes, and it's gross, smelly and pasty :( Furthermore, it is well known that our bodies are about 2/3rds water, so how could we also be 9/10ths microbes?!

Also, the number of species of bacteria is irrelevant, since bacteria are so small, what if there was just 2 of each specie? They would fit in a period.

Just looked up Wikipedia and it mentions even more numbers.
