I think the drumming on this live version is just killer, especially the flam tom fill at 3:38. I like the 4 on the floor kick pattern...gives the track a rockin' dance beat. Stuart's version is great, and so is Josh's. Just different, but both are legendary drummers.
Does anyone realize that this drum and bass is the most original reproduction of the Police style. I don't know who is drumming but it's a true Stewart Copeland imitation (which is not so easy) Very good.
Damn this IndioFreak guy really needs to get a life lol. I was wondering why there are so many people talking bad about Sting then I see all the posts are by this same douche haha.
God awful...I hate the way Sting ruins his own songs. I like Sting, but why does he ALWAYS have to put that stupid jazz or blues sound or whatever to everything he sings now?? The way he butchers classic Police songs is just horrible and is really disappointing me. I saw a video of a new Police concert, and the way Sting was singing Synchronicity II just drove me crazy.
Enlighten us with your brilliance, Einstein; you are old, cultivated and articulate enough to utter a better line than that without resorting to puerile insults.
Josh Freese is a badass drummer (I respect and admire him in RATM & Devo), but IMHO this song's drums (he clearly falls short in 03:38) are Stu's. StinK has done worse covers of this song though.
Ha ha ha. StinK knows that only 40 year-old tarts remember him and they do NOT buy his records anymore, and that his music is a fossil for new generations. However, The Police as a band -with Stu & Andy's timeless virtuosity concealing his preposterous ego- has really proved timeless.
Well said. It's too bad Sting thinks so highly of himself. Albeit talented, egos and simple minds destroy the best things in life. (e.g., Yoko and The Beatles.)
Honestly, I'm not sure why people keep saying that he is egotistical? is it beacause he writes fantastic song? is it because he doesnt act like a regular rock star? is it because he eloquent? Really, I read it a lot. So I m asking you all, why is egotistical. I read his biography, I listen to his music, I dont pretend to know this guy well but, he didnt come across as someone who had his head too big... CONSIDERING HE WROTE A LOT OF CLASSIC... So please tell me, ok? Ciao
Nobody can deny his talent for songwriting, but I tend to respect artists who play for the sake of music rather than for the mere fame and glory. He's written a lot of pop classics alright, but Stu and Andy's recognised though not overexposed songwriting conform The Police's real legacy that has certainly proved timeless. IMHO StinK, as a soloist, is more of a temporary, disposable entertainer as e.g. Robbie Williams. My applause goes for professional achievement rather than for Top 10 hits.
Yeah, he's got a knack for fucking up some great songs that he originally wrote, for cryin' out loud! I'd imagine if it wasn't for a lot of in fighting and insistent producers, the Police would have sounded like solo Sting. Thank God for arguments and producers with integrity. There's a TERRIBLE happy version of Invisible Sun floating around somewhere too.
Shame on StinK. This performance of a Police song (a total embarrassment!!) must have made him get back to Stu and Andy. Calling them should have been easy now that he cannot sell a single copy of his ukulele / lute / whatever umpteenth ego-promotional CD.

Technically you're correct, but the beat is slower and he's not doing it at the frenetic pace of Copeland, so I really wouldn't the performances.

03:38-> sounds fine (polyrhythmic).
I agree on Stu's better contribution to this song, though
