  • Adrian Belew: terrible !!

  • Da lo mismo weón!!

  • King Crimson cannot be considered Avant-Garde. Avant-Garde implies that music sounded like that long after the band's time, no music before, during, or since has ever came close to sounding like Crimso, so they are beyond Avant-Garde. Either that, or they are the most Avant-Garde music artist of this generation. I'd accept either as truth.

  • David Byrne and Zappa with his guitar @3:38 drop in on an early Police recording...

  • MAN, how much talent can one band contain. And Zappa echoes in the background constantly.

  • I love King Crimson

  • I remember around the time this album came out, I was also listening to The Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, and Adrian Belew's debut album, "Lone Rhino". Took a while to figure out that Adrian played with all of them during this time. I love his unique sound and got to see him play an abbreviated set opening for Eric Johnson in Austin around 2009. I was very disappointed he had to cut his set short due to technical glitches, as he was the reason I went to the show.

  • @dragonpop421 Dude! I was listening to the same music at the same time!!! This definitely brings back memories. Nobody understood this back in Detroit and most people still don't STILL ahead of it's time.....

  • @dragonpop421 We have very similar musical tastes! I was also listening (and loving) the bands you mention at that time! I feel lucky to have seen Frank Zappa, Laurie Anderson, King Crimson & Adrian Belew in concert. Music is sooo different these days

  • Critisism.................wonderful stuff

  • Well, I wasn't sure if it was a bass or guitar, or other, but what I referred to was the way it was being played that sounded like Les' song at the beggining. Just wondering if Les got inspired by it. Thanks for informing me on the actual instrument's name though. It's this kind of sound design and experimentation that more groups today need to get into. Don't hear much of that.

  • Don't waste your time listening to this. Go to burning shed and buy the 40th anniversary DTS 5.1 remixed by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp version on Audio DVD.

Then stick it on your DVD player through your 5.1 system (if you have one, that is)

    Awesome.

  • The vocals remind me of David Byrne of the Talking Heads.

  • @RadicalHippo Exactly what I was thinking. Only that Crimson predates TH by several years.

  • @walpaxcinema Yes it's true, but CK's early albums sound nothing like this. I think it's interesting how bands evolve through time and how it's often impossible to pinpoint a single source of stylistic or thematic influence (because the source is a decentralized system of human interactions). For example in the mid 60's through the late 70's, the moon was a very common element in a lot of very good songs from Bowie, T. Rex, Television, Crimson King, Van Morrison and many others.

  • @walpaxcinema They do, but this particular album does not :)

Should be noted that the Remain in Light album by The Talking Heads which this at least seems to draw great influence from featured Adrian Belew on it as well.

  • Doesn't the begining sound like Les Claypool's bass style in Jerry was a Racecar Driver? Sounds just like it! Maybe Les picked up some of it for his song.

  • @artbyvince Its Chapman Stick, not bass as such. Wierd instrument that about 3 people in the world know how to play.

  • @artbyvince Not really. But Primus was influenced by King Crimson.

  • There's a song like this on this cd I have called Ultra Lounge. And this group always was good and very weird.

  • Definitely better than "Elephant Walk"

  • amped up ghost busters ?

  • this is a killer tune,it's funky,it's experimental,and it's crazy!

  • @DavidHenryHolcomb your comment = this song

oh please... like this song could only be used to ridicule one side of things in politics. don't take a good song and take it out of context to try to justify something personal to you.. and at the same time try to make yourself seem humorous and witty at the same time. i don't care how many people thumbs up your comment. as far as i'm concerned, your comment and my own right here are all elephant talk as well. is it funny now?

  • @natruto It was funny because republicans are elephants, am I right? (I'm not even american lol)

  • @natruto I thought it was pretty funny.

  • IT's ONLY TALK,BUT THE GUITARS ARE FANTASMAGORICAL

    GOOGLE =JOHAN CAPIAU

  • It's like if Primus and Tame Impala mixed semen and then carefully planted it into Pink Floyd's vagina, and then magically she became pregnant and had a baby and that baby would grow up to be a acid head: This would be that baby.. King Crimson is the product of obscene sexual activities and semisynthetic psychedelic drugs...Only its not, its the mother of all those mentioned above

  • @Popstjerna93 sooooo primus and tame imapala had a baby with pink floyd and that baby is king crimson... and king crimson is still the mother of all of them... crazy fuckin shitbro

  • @Popstjerna93 You, sir, have won teh internetz.

  • @Popstjerna93 marry me

  • トニー・レヴィン、エイドリアン・ブリューを擁した80年代幕開けライン・アップ、クリムゾン"ディシプリン"~この変拍ファンキーさは何だ!協力一致”エレファント・トーク"

  • @MonsterTaupe OMFG YOUR A FUCKING GENIUS, DID YOU KNOW THAT.

  • @MonsterTaupe WHAT

  • The slashing guitar chord reminds me of Andy Summers on The Police's "Walking On The Moon".

  • @zkxb Don't even compare this band to the police.

  • @Uncreativeish Go listen to "Walking On The Moon" you little bitch. You don't know a fucking thing about music so SHUT THE HELL UP YOU GREASY HAIRED TWAT !!!

  • @zkxb So what you're really saying is Robert Fripp was on cheap drugs when he decided to collaborate with his old friend Andy Summers for two albums.

  • @zkxb I thought you were trashing The Police. I didn't read your original comment. I love King Crimson and I don't love The Police, but still. Now I'm looking at another one of your comments. You do think that you know better than Fripp when it comes to evaluating musicianship. He's an idiot for being friends with Andy Summers and recording with him? I got to see King Crimson for Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair. I have a 'Stolen From Tony Levin' pick. You're tough on Youtube aren't you?

  • Primus does suck <3

  • ARTICULATE ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • I can't help not starting to dance at 1:28 *_*

  • Primus serves the Throne of The Crimson King.

  • @DavidHenryHolcomb Except when they give Ron Paul a chance to speak.

  • The FUNK is strong with these gentlemen!

  • @DavidHenryHolcomb too bad this song makes more sense than anything politicians EVER say.

  • These are words with a "D" this time - lol

  • Gracias Licenciado!

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • These people must have been high...... on imagination.

  • OMFG "jerry was a racecar driver" thats the first thing i thought when i heard this for the first time lol

  • Elephant 1: Hey man, what you listenin' to?

Elephant 2: This sweet song by King Crimson called "Elephant Talk'

Elephant 1: What is it about?

    Elephant 2: Human conversation.

The two elephants analyze the lyrics and plot a scheme to take over the earth. Successfully. (This will happen in the year 2045.)

  • My dad showed me kind crimson, I love my dad

  • @TheWeeklyChannel He showed you kind crimson? Well, I'll look up Kind Crimson. No jk I know you meant King Crimson.

  • @Poisonnachos Haha, I didn't even notice! :P

  • Jerry was an elephant driver?

  • @cadmus98 hahahaha thaats what i was thinking! i would love to hear primus cover this.

  • Awesome! - Check out our Live Jams, we do songs in the style of King Crimson, and 60's Rock. BluesRiverMan

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Apples and oranges, dude

  • thats the trippiest song i have heard in a long time

  • And of course, Primus SAYS they were heavily influenced by KC. Listen to this, and then Jerry Was A Race Car Driver...

  • @gingeremy Please, Primus is not in the same universe as KC. They are clowns. Belew & Fripp are more interesting eating lunch than Primus is at their best.

  • @delmer221

Dude fuck you, Primus is awesome!!!

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Primus Sucks ;)

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Primus sucks.....

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 No, Primus sucks

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Primus sucks!

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Primus sucks<3 :)

  • @delmer221 WOW gingeremy didnt even say anything about whos better and you freak out. Ive seen les claypool solo and with primus and ive seen adrian belew solo and they where both equally good! PRIMUS SUCKS ;)

  • @delmer221 I'd pay 10 bucks to see Belew and Fripp eating lunch.

  • @gingeremy Obviously they were influenced by KC...listen to Les Claypool's cover of Thela Hun Ginjeet.

  • This is a great song, which kind of reminds me of a band I've heard a few days ago, Aperco. Hear the similarity at their channel apercoband

  • Jerry was a racecar drivers sound like a backwards version of this song.

  • Economia... economia... economia... economia... elephant talk

  • i want to play a game... oh wait wrong video :-0

  • frank zappa type of guitar solo in here

  • WOW!!! Now I know where Les Claypool ripped his sound.

  • Jerry was a racecar driver?

  • @SheenVsRollins Come again???

  • Oh my god, i just noticed that, at times, the guitar sounds a lot like... an elephant :D

  • great song!! in my opinion, it´s strongly influenced by avant-garde, groups such as Captain Beefheart or The Mothers of Invention...but it still sounds like Crimson!

  • these are words with a d this time

  • these comments are only talk

  • This song has been in my head since I was first turned on to it in 83. I haven't heard it since until now. "... Brouhaha"

  • ギターで象の鳴き声を出してしまう発想が、凄過ぎる。

  • The song by Syd Barrett is called "Effervescing Elephant". It is a terribly funny story song about all the animals in the jungle and a hungry lion. It is the last cut on "Barrett" A totally different but also great song.

  • Belew's solo after "Double talk, double talk." at 3:26 changed my life when I first heard it.

  • what the heck is this crap... sounds like talking heads? he cant even say arguements properly.

  • If you wanna get more in dept with King Crimson, Check out Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, these 2 were the main two guys for King Crimson, they also added the likes of Brian Eno. It was all definitely a different style and taste for the mid to late 70's. I can remember sitting in my bedroom putting on the LP, and kicking back and had a feeling of slipping away into some other world. This was definitely a trip back to the past, thank you for your post and enjoy!

  • Talk...its only talk... arguments..agreements.......love this Droo HAHA

  • Don't ever forget the important contribution by Bill Bruford.

  • Sorry... I meant E... I'm kinda new at this KC thing

  • I'm I the only one this is disapponted they end at D. :-)

  • Adrian Belew shines like a beacon on this. What a great combination he and Fripp were and are.

  • I guess this is definitely Barrett-influenced

    watch?v=-qf9-xrHAGM&feature=related

    plus

    watch?v=smVYvnnqewA&feature=related

    and let me know

    btw: KCrocksalltheway

  • @sasybee I already listen syd! this is definatly infulenced by him, but sadly it didn't help them to much

  • @sasybee Most certainly not Barret influenced.

  • @sasybee Actually, check out Primus' "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver", very VERY similar to the bass line in this...

  • @sasybee It's probable they had some influence from Barrett and people related to progressive rock, althought PF were always more commercial with all their special effect shows on stage and their movie, than KC, anyway, they've got a completely different style, musical structures, way to compose and rhythm in their songs, it's absolutelly more pure progressive and even musically complete than PF, also KC has a comedic freak way to play. So, i hope the next time you have a convincing arguement.

  • @LicenciadoRaulVarela Hallo, I'm not talking about PF, I'm talking about Barrett solo career pieces, and it's a completely different thing as you probably know. The idea behind this song reminds me of Barrett's Word Song, tho the style of rhythm and music is different. The idea of giving out words, which may have a particular relationship or none at all; the "feeling" of a certain attention on spelling. (tbc)

  • @LicenciadoRaulVarela and more over, I find it very funny that Barrett wrote a song about elephants too! lol Anyway, Barrett solo albums ain't prog at all imho, they are a lot more psychedelic, and I feel this KC is psych and not progr. That, and what i wrote in my last post, is why I find it to be some kinda Barrett influenced, or in the Barrett proper style.

Btw, don't care about being convincing, I just tried to talk about my own opinion about this song and barrett's word song. NOT PFvsKC !

  • @sasybee but there's a clear prog melody, harmony and rhtyhm exposed, prog has been always the KC seal, i think what's psyche about this song is the lyrics, the crazy and funny way to talk so many disjointed words of a same concept, but nothing else, KC music style has not any relationship to Barrett "psyche" way.

  • @LicenciadoRaulVarela you're very clear, while probably i'm not: i was just talking about this song and one of Barrett's songs, absolutely NOT about KC career (or even PF career as you guessed in your other post). Everytime i listen to Elephant Talk, I feel a Barrett concept (or just idea) being developed in the KC way. This is what I call influence, and it's not a bad thing. Probably I'm wrong, anyway, but that's what I feel when listening to THIS song. Cheers ^^

  • @sasybee If this song (or Discipline in general) shares any likeness to anything, it's Remain in Light by Talking Heads, which makes a hell of a lot more sense considering Belew performed and worked on that album the year before the release of Discipline. I don't know where you get Barrett from. As for the "prog-rockness," KC jump through time signatures and key like nobody's business (not necessarily in this song, though). I see nothing psyche about them.

  • @sasybee

Even Torsofuck wrote a song about elephants. That doesn't mean their brutal gargles are influenced by British Prog Rock.

    Only joking :P

  • @sedsci lol that song is fucked up

  • @LicenciadoRaulVarela how is PF commercial?

  • thing is, where Barrett strung together seemingly 'nonsensical' lyrics into absurdist, nearly purposeless structures (with a certain genius, to be sure) Elephant Talk's lyrical stream has a drive and purpose, and the strings of words are quite articulate. They SOUND all whimsy/borogoves, but I think the humor and wit underscore a huge thematic expression. But this too is all just talk...

  • anagrams... arbitration.. alliteration.... antagony......ass talk.....

  • I see where Primus got their main influence! :)

  • @Brollyhero99TOP10

    Primus fucking suck.

  • @Brollyhero99TOP10

Never has the word "fucking" placed so much ambiguity in to a statement.

  • @sasybee i don't know any song by Barrett about elephants, and i don't find this song more psychedelic than prog, anyway i don't find similar the "word" song at all taking into account, as i said, the composition of the both songs, the Barrett song sounds like a deformed and delirious psyche one, you can discover an interesting way to play music, of course, if you separate all the items and order them with your mind, but it;s absolutelly different, however, KC has a little psyche influence

  • I love it how they start with words with, A, then B, C, D, elephant talk? Elephant talk?! ELEPHANTE TALK?!?!

  • SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTT

  • Jerry Was A Race Car Driver?

  • @federicok

    That was Jimmy.

  • @federicok

    That was Jimmy.

  • Is this track inspired by Dave Byrne? Possibly - there's no shame in that.

I was litening to Robert Fripp long before Psycho Killer hit the airwaves...this is a superb bit of funk rock!

Beside that, this is very Todd Rundgren...serious production!

  • @Ferguccio Well Adrian Belew was in talking heads for a while before he joined Crimson, so thats probably where it came from

  • @erikm12 I didn't know that...thanks :)

  • @erikm12 Aha....cheers my dears! :)
