  • The problem here is not with the western countries bullying india, but with the indian government not prioritising the lives of indian farmers. every indian knows this

  • working with WTO is like having cancer. A disease that grows so slowly that you wont even realize.. Once it gets you surround... to late to cure yourself.

  • Farmers are commiting suicide please get away from the world community and come back and sit in new delhi take care of those poor people we have nothing to loose or gain from wto just the rich countries are playing with poor indian farmers

  • Indian farmers must learn from western farmers their technics .

  • Yes brother i think we must learn western farmers techniques but the problem is land is so small that a tractor will take just 15 minutes to till it every year..... so i think it will be inappropriate if we think of doing it in a western style who have miles and miles of farmland.... Any suggestion you can add on

  • wester farmers are given subsidies and indian farmer's subsidies are taken away in new wto norms.... what to learn??

  • There is no way a Indian farmer can compete with american or australian farmer. Basically 60% of our farmers scratch their living from ground. It is so difficult for me to see our villages being affected by this devil WTO. The money just affects rich people and they go for world tours but poor people are really suffering in India without any doubt

  • no more imperialism.

  • I think every country should produce food they need, what the hell is this bullshit about liberatig agricultural trade and exposing populations to hunger in case of trade distortions?

Even worse, it promotes unsustainable population growth in areas that cannot support their occupant without external support and when ww3 or similar event strikes, we find we have a BILLION people dying of hunger some part of the world.

  • Your latter paragraph is the WTO's aim.

They ruin everything they touch, either they are a room filled with the most stupidest people or they know eatly what they are doing.

They killed a major rice producing country by making them importers only and its now in the worst food crises.

Strategic policies for depopulation, if they approve something count on it being harmful

  • we should oppose wto..bro...thats should be done or all the developing countries will be under threat......

  • And developing countries subsidize both food and gas or a low currency to get outsourced jobs, everyone subsidizes something to get a competitive edge. This must be why the talks are so difficult.

  • fuck that fucking wto shit.

They are distroying more for the rich countries than they are helping the poor.

  • a poor country will have to import food from a rich country? insane.

  • i feel for the small farmers of the world

  • Obviously this globalization isn't working. We just had to do research about farm subsidies in school. EVERY SINGLE student was PISSED over these unfair subsidies and how they put the little guy out of business. People need to educate and inform themselves before making a comment like an ignorant sheep. I'm for the little guy! They are putting our little farmers in the US out of business too. Good luck to you India.

  • The gap b/w the little farmer from India and that from the US is very vast. So it is ignorant of you to compare the two on the same scale.

  • I wasn't so stop assuming things. Another thing, we are for the farmers, all of them, and then we have to listen to ignorance from people like you. Now you know what makes people not care.

  • When u say "people like u", I think u are assuming things as well. 'Little farmer' does not have a homogenous definition.

  • independant goat herders versus incorporated factory farms with lucrative gov't subsidies? Thats the WTO definition of fairness, after all there are no tariffs.

    Not websters.

  • Why isn't the indian government reducing agricultural imports and helping the local farmer? Seems idiotic to me. What a bunch of incompetent bastards. In 2003 alone, more than 17,000 farmers committed suicide in India

  • lol

  • There's a good reason why: international pressure from the most powerful countries in the world to keep all markets open and free to international trade. The WTO's main goal is to reduce bans and tariffs on imported goods within all economies of the world. India *cannot* reduce agricultural imports without actually leaving the WTO, which would have many other repercussions. It is ridiculous.

  • They should be developing their country from the inside out. These types of alliances are suicidal. Seems like there are not too many people over there in power that really gives a damn about the welfare of the people

  • i thought the WTO was to help the corporations get richer with the aid of government..

  • Fuck USA

  • faget without USA your fucking country would be worse than myanmar

  • Nah I'm pretty sure I have it right...the US has done very little positive things on the 3rd world nations but destroy them!

America is a shelfish country...there are good ppl in the country...but they are too dumb to realize what their country is doing!

  • nah that is BS educate yourself a little bit...just think about call centers

  • A fair WTO deal?? That would kinda defeat the purpose of the WTO.

  • The problem is not with the WTO but its members.

  • The problem is with the Corporatist subsidies. If there weren't subsidies, there wouldn't need to be a WTO! Free trade deals can be written up in one paragraph. Instead, NAFTA, etc. is about 6000 pages long! These managed-trade arrangements only help the Big Corporations. There should be 100% elimination of subsidies prior to removal of the "trade shields".

  • The structure of the WTO is based on the principle that the member states can settle their disputes by resorting to a third party. Ideally, a just system would work out a deal that is fair to both sides. However, the system allows for the more economically powerful country to have a stronger negotiating voice, which is a structural flaw that disadvantages the poor. Also, all states MUST pursue their national interests, or they will fall to ruin. Therefore, the problem lies with the WTO.

  • I concur!

The US wants to increase its subsidies. (basically saying to others go fuck yourself, we want more control and bigger agriculture)

The EU wants to keep all of there subsidies (saying sorry to poor countries, but were keeping our fair share in the stake)

Developing countries NEED more (saying come on America and EU, can't we even have a peice of agriculture bussiness. We have millions of poor people willing to workd the feilds for a few Dollars a day, while you use machines)
