I own an Audi A6 and it is re-assuring to see that the passenger cabin retained it's shape while the front end absorbed the impact. Great view of how well the drivers airbag works too. A friend of mine had a bad head on a few years ago - the last thing he remembers about the crash was the steering wheel wrapping around his forehead (old car with no airbags). He is so lucky to be alive.

I don't know if other cars have this, but audi's engine is designed to go underneath the car and it's chained to its front panel. So when u have a front hit, audi's engine goes underneath the car and pulls the front panel to front so the ppl inside are safe.

I crashed my S4 (1997) at 160km/h. I hitted ditch wall with that speed. Thank God i was wearing a seatbelt. I had only a scrach at my knee after that crash, but the car was totalled, except the cabin. So "I think BMW is better" comment is bullshit, i've died in beemer

I've seen many crashes with Audis in which the car was totaled (with spinning and evrything) and the guys were fine except for some scratches. I wouldn't try that in another car, not even those cutesy French ones. Get above the NCAP test speed and they're toast.

Because at the moment all modern cars are not designed to crash at speeds like that.

If they did that would mean something like a harder crumple zone which will make the cars more dangerous at low speed crashes.

Also the odds of hitting something like a wall on the high ways are slim while on low speed roads with no barriers and traffic allot closer you are more likely to hit another car or wall. high way crashes are based on luck.

you are correct - modern cars are made to crumple like a soda can. It's physics. The car is made to absorb as much energy as possible so that the people inside don't. It's makes for expensive repairs - but it is safer for passengers. Nothing can be done to make it so that no one dies. Somethings are just unfortunate. The best thing to do when driving fast is make sure that you have no loose objects in the car to hurt you if it flies around during a crash.

My '05 E-class is in the shop every 2 weeks with issues here and there, and I'm sick of it. Finally switched to a Lexus GS350 and bingo, no more bugs. So much for "superior German engineering".
