  • Lesson 1: Go buy or make a poi :P

  • ahhhhuuuuu! POINUTSHOOT!!!

  • Thank you!! : )

  • What is the song ?

  • THANK YOU :) I just tried, took me a lil to get it, but the point is that I was actually able to do it for a few seconds before they ran into each other! Which made me excited :)

  • When io try to bring my hands together, the poi always collide... help?

  • @4SecondChaos try putting one hand slightly infront of the other ... about half a hand.....

  • LEARNED IN LIKE---2 MINS.... THANK THANK THANK YOUUUU!!

  • Is it easier to peform Butterfly with no tails on the poi?

  • @PrincessAskaban yeah, sometimes tails can get in the way

  • This is by far the BEST self teaching VIDEO I have searched in YOUTUBE. I want to extend my gratitude with you. Still learning POI now, thanks to you! wish I had you as a master here in Cebu...no better substitute than a master!!! Hats off to you!

  • I watched a dozen videos for beginners at least, and now this is the best I've seen. Great video and sound quality. Nice and calm voice. And a very good explanation. Very nice!

  • I have a pair of fabric poi and I don't understand the physics of this at all haha. But I can do it! For a minute or so anyways, then I either hit myself or the poi tangle together ;~;

Getting there though! Thanks for the video, this and my DVD are making quite a lovely pair.

  • they aint even real pois the look like socks with more socks in them!!

  • @baybum15 it's called sock poi. come on man do some research 'fore you try to bash someone for something you know nothing about.

  • what is the song?

  • thanks mate your vids have been so helpful :)

  • i learned with a sharpie taped too a shoe string! then i got glow sticks lol

  • puuu o su punk

  • Do you recommend people using poi instead of glow sticks on shoe strings? Or dropping pool balls into socks? (I'd like to see videos of people doing THAT as beginners). I'm just learning these moves for glowsticking (no offense) but having trouble with the light weight of the sticks.

  • i use tennis balls inside of socks :)

  • I learned by putting hackey sacks into long socks. It worked fine for me.

  • @gumballskull hackey sacks!! what an awesome idea..dude I forgot all about a hackey sack ^ . ^

  • @GixxxerKim I use tennis balls in long socks. Glowsticks on strings tend to come off and fly across the room.

  • I use long socks with smaller socks inside.

  • Love your choice of shpongle in the background!

  • Learned it in one minute. Thanks

  • nice song you gonna poi for shpongle at wakarusa next year

  • heres a tip if you keep hitting yourself; just toughen up! lol

what more incentive can there be than to avoid the pain??? lol

  • why did put that annoying thing saying join me bla bla i cant see the bottom

  • got it in 5 minutes, thank you soooo much !!!

  • wait ...so u make it kinda go alternatly(split time) but not alot, like knida alternate?!?!????kan someone reply telling me how to make them cross without hitting eachother ....like si one in front of the other???

  • thank you for sharing

  • WARNING TO GUYS PRACTICING THIS MOVE!!! You will most likely hit yourself in the nuts (especially in cut time) Learning this move can be rather painful. Wear thick pants or something.

  • ^^ yeah, you are right! I first tried it indeed with heavy poi on chains. I cannot recommend that! For practice i preferred socks with small waterballons in it. They never hurt!

  • I have hit myself in the nuts numberous of times.. kind of discouraging to try again.

  • I notice that in alot of your videos you look toward your left side. I took this to heart (even if you do it subconciously :P) and it actually sort of compensates for your off-hand never wanting to listen to you.

  • poi was a dance used by the women who get married in the traditional maomi. but well... now its some artist-stuff, often done with glowing or burning poi in the dark to some suitable music.

  • You picked the best Shpongle song for this, man!

  • dude(s), what does 'spongle' mean? wikipedia said it just means to be hammered... and what do you call it where you have a ball that keeps still while you move your hand around it? know what i mean?

and thanks a brazillion for the lessons.. it's taken me about 13 years to get on it!

  • its called a contact ball :)

  • poi is a raving with strings. raving is a kind of dance done with glowsticks in the dark

  • not the definition of raving. not the essence of raving either

  • bump

  • yeah... Raving is definitely not just dancing. Raves are (somewhat professional) parties that are open to the public and primarily play Electronic Dance Music (what most people call techno).

and "Poi" is the Maori word for ball... but is generally used to describe a form of object manipulation using a ball at the end of a chain or string.

  • Poi dates back a lot longer than glowsticks, man.

  • ur website doesnt work!?!?! do u use tail pois as well as that is what i work with? is it different?

  • i worked out that its easier for me if i sipn them backwards XD

    ^.^

  • I KEEP HITTING MY LEGS!!!!!

  • i have a question though what if ur poi arent made like that and they rap aroung ur fingers then how would u do it???

  • I simply just use tubesocks with tennis balls in them. If you need a finger loop, cut a hole near the end.

  • veeeeeery good !

  • awsome vid, u rock dude

  • This has to be the best video on how to do the butterfly i've seen

  • where is the lesson 1? ;_;

  • @GothicDaemonia

    basic spin

  • thanx a lot u explained why I kept messing up, I was crossing my hands, great vids!

  • Thank you so much for posting these vids! I'm very new to poi, but have always wanted to learn. You are a tremendous help!

  • That was great!! Thanks heaps, but I need more practice, if they were fire pois I would be a goner by now. LOL, will keep practicing.
