  • is it possible for that type of controller to work with an rc car?

  • Hi Bruce, love your videos. eagerly awaiting the circuit diagram for the backpack FPV 5.8ghz module. Question for you. can you see any issue with installing this unit in a DX6i?

  • Slow down! No offense but do you eat any medicine that affects the sense of time? I like your movies but a little hard to hear sometimes.

  • I did a shade tree test on my J/R 2.4 and 72 systems by placing my pike perfect moldy glider a $2000 A/C on a tri pod in my day room, i can see the rudder/ elevator thru my bay window, i placed the transmitter in a all meta tool box in my garage, closed the tool box, with a string attached to the rudder stick, i closed the door which is metal, i can now see the A/C thru my garage window, pulled on the string every thing worked as advertized, go figure!

  • Whats the distance range for a 2.4 ghz?

  • Bruce,

Can you please tell me what spectrum analyser you are using,

    Alan

  • Conversion Futaba T6EXHP to 2.4GHz with FrSky Hack Module on the GiantCode Forum Link - bit#ly/r6ASPI

(copy URL, paste and then replace # with a dot) Hope it is of interest.

  • Thanks Bruce. For those who are interested, have just upgraded my Futaba T6EXHP to 2.4GHz with FrSky Hack Module. If its of interested, a step guide with pictures is uploaded on the giantcod.co.uk forum in product talk.

  • Good review Bruce, I have the Frsky DF combo, plus one extra receiver for my other Heli, mine did come with the Serial lead, I note some didn't get the lead? there was also a CD with manuals covering everything, also winXP/win7 update stuff.

The RS232 lead has no coders in the plug just a straight 3-wire to 9-way Fem d-type.

    Steve

  • hi bruce, i have a problem, the DJT v2 doesn;t come with the cable rs232, can we actually build this.. HK says they dont manufatur the cable anymore and doesn;t come with one today.. i didn;t find out until it arrived! i can't change the telemtry setting now!

a diagram or link will do.

    thanks bruce

  • @jbx907 Do you need an RS232 cable? They still sell the USB cable which can be used for setting the telemetry parameters and reflashing the transmitter module. I did hear that there were some issues with Windows 7 and the USB driver but that may have been solved. I don't have Win7 to test.

  • @RCModelReviews only if new i should have order it with the usb cable, rs232 will be my only alternative, i dont know if there are coders in the plugs or just direct taps! im using windows 7 x64 and also have xp, i have some rs232 plugs here but still need info on connections!

  • Is the module compatible with my old FS-TH9X transmitter?

Great review by the way! ^_^

  • Love the intro music!!

  • Thanks for your reply , i got mine working , it sounds perfect with no glich of any type

but i haven done the range check on it ,

  • Good news , I got mine working ,IT was me ,who dont know nothing about computer

etc .But know how to fly,LOL . Any way it works great on my Cap 9 futuba . Instruction

is in the disc that comes with DAAAAAAAAAA,

  • Are you using a wireless clip on microphone? How do they work, can u wire them to your camera?

  • @SuperPianowizard No, I have a wired mic and I'm forever tripping over the cable. One day I'll make enough money from my YouTube channel to buy a nice wireless mic.

  • Hello there , i got mine ,and no instruction .and dont work either , i got 9C Futaba.

Am I doing something wrong , OR like what i see on you tube ,it just dont work ,mostly .By the way do you work for them or just helpful guy ?

  • @arcdirect I'm just a helpful guy :-) Make sure you have your radio set to PPM mode. There should have been instructions -- go to the FrSky website and you'll find the documentation online there. The URL is in the web-based review on the RCModelReviews website.

  • can you wmail me at mike_trollinger2001@yahoo.com for some technical questions

  • Hi, very useful all your reviews. I install the FrSky DIY module in my Graupner MC-19 and is perfect!

Please...for the people that dónt speak english very well is important if you speak more slowly in all the video...not only the first minute!

Thank again and continue helping us.

  • Excellent, hard to come-by authoritative advice. Tar muchly!

Now... time to catch-up with the rest of this generous guys postings.

  • What I don't like about these transmitter modules is that the antennae don't always have a free line of sight with the receiver. Surely that will limit range.

  • Nice review!

Do you know if they make a module that would work with a Sanwa or Airtronics M8 or M11 ?

  • Great video. It would be very interesting to hear your verdict on the patch antenna that rangevideo sells for this.

  • used these for over a year ,not a problem great stuff...

  • Because of your glowing review I purchased two FrSky Futaba systems . Neither system worked properly. The first one worked fine and range checked okay. The module died on the very first flight resulting in a complete loss of control and subsequent crash of my sons brand new Trek-450. The module was completely dead no LED and no signal!

The second module simply refuses to bind with any of the 4 extra receivers I bought. The light on the back of the TX module just blinks yet nothing on the RX

  • Wow, this was a great little show!

  • It's so nice to see a review by someone who obviously knows what he's talking about :)

  • "More range than you will EVER EVER need?" Pish.......... You obviously dont fly FPV....

  • @JoeVSvolcano He was obviously not referring to FPV, (for that you use other systems)and by your comment, he obviously understands much much more of this that you do...!

  • You talk faster than my former math teacher :D

I have a HiTec Optic 6 and I bought a FRSKY but I do not like the antenna position, I want to buy an antenna extension to mount the antenna in place of the FM antenna.

This extension can affect some system performance?

  • @aiurel1987 isnt it a free slot on the other side of the module? i got one and i use changed it so the antenna points up on my hitech :)

  • Thanks for the good reviews Ron, it's very useful as it looks like our club will be switching to 2.4GHz only fairly soon. I was going to go with the JR/Spektrum module for my JR set, but based on your reviews I am going to go FrSky, especially now their telemetry version is out.

BTW FrSky now quote ground range as 1.5km on their website specs and FCC docos.

  • hi ron thanks for this video was wondering wich one to get at the mo as spekky sem to be haveing a prob at the mo ,so ive bought one plus 2 extra receivers ,went out today no probs excellent range and soooooooooo easy to install great news if u on a budget,,, iawnski

  • First I would like to say thanks for the great info about how 2.4 GHz systems work. I have an older conquest FP-T4NFB radio. I was wondering if the FrSky system would work on this radio or if there is any other 2.4 conversions out there? Hey thanks again ....Lew

  • Thanks for the review! Your site is great! Keep on the good work! Warm cheers from Brazil! : P

  • Hello Ron here, I found your review on the 2.4 modules quite interesting. I have recently purchaced a Futuba T6EX 2.4 system, have you done a review on this system yet? If not will you be doing one in the near future? I am using the system in my 26cc YAK54. Big flight test this weekend. Will let you know how it goes.

  • the best radio in the marketing is SPEKTRUM DX7

  • are you retired or not because you look pretty smart and retired

  • could anyone tell me if you could fit it in a 7c futaba system?

  • what are you saying the frsky system is better than spectrum/jr ??

  • @parapos I will be publishing a summary of all my tests soon in which people will be able to decide for themselves which system is "best" for their needs.

  • Hi there, Just received my Frsky combo for jr. will try it out on the weekend in our glitchy environment in Pakistan :)

  • Hello There, nice reveiw. BTW when are you going to reveiw the FrSky two way system and thier about to be launched hack module.?

  • I'm waiting for the hack module to arrive and the 2-way (telemetry) system review is "in the works" right now

  • hi !

i was wondering if this thing works on my multiplex profi mx 3010.

    greats jones

  • i read this sytem got a safety feature wich make it run slower (servos) when its in the limits of the range,

coudl you show in some way how slowely they move when its in the limits?

    thnk youu

  • Interesting review! Thank you!

  • Hi, Roger here... have seen a really great addition on trademe for a set of alloy stands for use on the hitec and futaba radios - really useful for the rear mount aerials. Also, a note - Corona DOES have a failsafe, BUT it must be set at the beginning of every flight.

  • Good job,well done.

  • Good review. Im just starting out with Helis and am looking for a cheap module to go with my 9x. I will add this to the shortlist. Looking forward to the other reviews you have coming.

  • Hey its Willzilla here btw but you cant use these with a DX6i right?

  • No, the DX6 isn't module-based so you can't use this.

  • Awesome... Can't wait for your review on the Aurora.

  • Nice!!!

I'm going to try one. Thanks for the review

  • did you meure if the power output is really 60mw as claimed?

  • I haven't measured the raw power output but based on the relative strength displayed on the spectrum analyzer, they seem to be very similar to the other units tested (Corona, Hitec, WFly, etc). I believe it's around 60mW peak but because of the relatively low temporal density intrinsic to SS RC equipment, the *average* output appears less than that, as is the case with most of the other units tested. From what I gather, the FCC regulations refer to "peak" output only when setting maximums.

  • at FrSky web, antenas are differents, thy are bigger,

you dont use the default antenas?

  • The original units were shipping with the larger antennas. I suggested that they use the smaller (low-gain) units because they have a more consistent radiation pattern and will place less stress on the module connector. They listened!

  • Awesome review xjet!!! XD

  • can u use them on rc cars?

  • you wouldn't really want to because it has too many channels (would be a bit of a waste of money) and in general you most people feel that you have more control with a traditional rc car transmitter (they are a different shape).

  • @blzind k thx i was just wondering thx

  • no probs :)

  • Top review and looking forward to the next video,oh one last point i can't see the problem with how fast you talk lol = 5*

  • probly

  • Great stuff Bruce nice review good stuff these look good who is stocking them?

    Bill

  • This kind of independant review is long overdue. We have been getting shafted for far too long when it comes to 2.4 RC systems. Good to see some more affordable but reliable systems coming out.

  • Excellent job. But you did start talking too fast again near the end. :~)

  • Damn... so much to say, so little time ;-)

  • Yes but I for one understood him no problem.
