I read it through and it has changed my attitude to training totally.I've split my routine into 2 parts and basically train half my body every 5 days.Training time has halved and my muscles ache for a good few days after each session.
I'm really enjoying using the theory of working the muscle just enough to activate the growth response and no further and the idea of peak contraction.
All those years of training for little or no return are a thing of the past..
I've ordered his book from amazon and I've already altered my training routine to incorporate what I've already found out about Mike's approach.Genius who was ahead of his time.
Seeing all the videos I asked myself .. Why people like the Mentzer brothers have to die ?? .. R.I.P. Greetings from Dominican Republic and anyone who see these videos and special thanks to HIT4120.
I hear what you mean man they were great bodybuilders and teachers to us all, but unfurtonately, years of heavy steroid use will really take an irreversible toll on you body, particularly heart and liver. No way around the truth man. They both will be missed by the entire body building community that grew up wathcing these guys compete.
@happytobeproud That's true but amphetamines were what ruined Mike Mentzer's career and likely what caused the heart problems (which is what killed him).
My advice to first time lifters....squat , deadlift, and bench.....build your foundation there and then you can get creative with your own stuff.....but you MUST build your core thru these 3 movements...no way around it..
mike mentzer is class. he trained pros, but his methods could be used by people at any level past beginner. none of this 5 sets per exercise horse shit.
i train how i want when i want, and im growing again. mentzer's hd was simply a good read: theory with imagination.

I just train in my garage twice a week. I can see the stars when I lie on my bench and I always dedicate each rep to the Mentzer brothers.

No ab workout? No trapesius? He didn't show a squat routine on leg day, rather it was press, curl, etc.
