The Lost Levels was Mario 2, and was released as such in Japan. Nintendo of America hated the game because its look and play style was too similar to Mario 1, and it was MUCH harder. So a completely unrelated Japan-only game called "Yume Dojo: Doki Doki Panic" was retooled to include Mario charaters and some elements from the past Mario games, and released in the US as Super Mario Bros. 2.

But then you'd have to keep jumping out of the way or moving to the side to avoid Wart's bubble attack. If you stand on the platform you can avoid his attack with ease and sooner or later, the machine will spit a veggie right into your hands. There's no timer on this game so you can take as long as you want.

No, it`s not necessary but it`s more easy to do that this way because Wart`s bubble attack is useless if you stand behind him (Bubble attack can destroy a vegetable you`re trying to throw)... You just have to wait when his mouth is open to throw a vegetable in it.
