  • Forever proud to be from nottingham and train at the same ice rink as them

  • They are amazing I used love watching them and still do enjoy seeing them on dancing on ice

  • Saw Torville and Dean skating on tv today , she is now 55 and still skates with skill and grace.

  • Amazing!!!!!

  • Brilliant routine but equally brilliant stunt they pulled to skirt the rules. They couldn't edit the music short enough to work for them and the rules wouldn't allow them to go over the set time. The rules state that the routine starts when their blades touch the ice. So as you can see, they kept them off the surface for the first 18 seconds, enough to keep Bolero the proper length. Not quite as quirky as what they did in BLADES OF GLORY, but enough to make history.

  • The World got something sensational. I do recall watching this on the Telly.

So unique, new, and original it stood out from the technical skill of even the Russians.

This kind of: artistic, creative, passionate, beauty does not come along often...catch it when you can.

  • Velice krásné!!! Absolutně sehraná dvojice!!!

  • 6666666666666666 and 6

  • The Crimson King'll want to harvest that telepathic connection.

  • wau super ,herlich gut .

  • We will never see this inspirational beauty in ice dancing ever again!

  • Am I the only one who missed the 'HQ'?

  • flawless beauty

  • That's fukin breathtaking man

  • This is the 1st time I have seen this since watching the original performance so many years ago .

My late wife danced ballet professionally, and also taught ballet for many years. seeing this artistry brought back so many memories, and moved me to tears. It was, and still is, beautiful.

  • I shivered when I saw this live; I shivered when I saw this just now, all these years later. Not a gimmicky move; just heart, talent, and, yes, perfection.

  • Definitely one of the best I've seen in my life, nevermind in sport. B.E.A.U.tiful! Love them both :)

  • I actually forgot how utterly phenomenal this was. The skill, the timing. Spectacular, just spectacular. 22 years on..

  • If I'm ever feeling hot in the humidity of an Aussie summer, all I have to do is watch this performance. It makes me shiver.

  • PERFECTION

  • I'm a female Tom Cruise here, lol.

  • Mesmerizing! Love everything...also check out their "Take Five" another "best"!

  • FUCK (sorry for my bad language) they are sooo good! I love Torvill & Dean <33

  • ICONIC . Surely the best dance ever seen on ice. I had chills all the way through .

  • i stopped up to watch this in 1984 and i dont think i will ever see anything as perfect in sport in the rest of my lifetime

  • NOTTINGHAM PEOPLEEEEE<3333

  • 240p was indeed high quality in 2006.

  • magical! i was 14 then.....

  • you should have seen me at Bristol ice rink the other day.

I was like the human version of Bambi

to be able to do this must be an incredible skill

  • il massimo della dansa sul ghiaccio

  • Ain't No Rule

  • I wish they married and had kids :'( the most lovliest couple EVER. Jayne's such a good mum :') karen barber's really moody :/ LOL if chris got with herr! haha! oh dear ;) yeah it's legendary and that, but i'm laughing in the foreign countries faces cos they'll never be able to beat this amazing performance. i obsess likee hell with these guys. I lovee youuuu! <3<3

  • Damn! Now I want to have sex

  • Hard to know how this could ever be bettered. They skate in perfect unison, an ideal expression of the music.

  • @Rissaness Agreed. Still, check out Assinina and Peizerat's Romeo and Juliet. Also Klimova and Ponomarenko's Bach routine (gold medal in Albertville Olympics).

  • On sent la légèreté de ces patineurs! Je les ai vus à la télé en 1984. Merveilleux danseurs sur glace!!!!

  • Goosebumps! I remember watching this live....absolutely amazing, they are the best!

  • i weep every time.

  • bir+bir iyi ki varsın.

  • It's so graceful, like watching a combination of dance, ballet & gymnastics on ice, the movements were just so graceful & emotional & perfect timing with each others movements.

  • Comment removed

  • I feel honoured to have witnessed this emotional , perfect , ice skating perfomance from a very likeable couple. It can't ever be beaten as one can't pass perfection

  • @horstdoggies That is, unless ANOTHER couple achieves perfection, haha. ;D

  • so I do everything for your satisfaction

  • I WANNA BE LIKE THIS WHEN I GROW UP! I am just completing my level gold and I really wanna be like these wto! xx

  • I am 61 years old and I have saved a video of this as an experience that affected my emotions well beyond the norm. If that sounds overly-dramatic, then all I ca say is well, youhad to have been there watching it live.

  • sheer perfection never to be repeated again.

  • To get a full perspective of just how wonderful this moment was, you have to see the other competitors. The other couples were still doing the traditional ice dances. When Torvill & Dean did this, they literally started a new form of ice dance..........this was groundbreaking stuff folks.........memorable.......unique......wonderful.....thrilling

  • It should be SIR Christopher Dean and DAME Jayne Torvill. Legends in their own lifetime. Bravo.

  • You can't beat perfection. We will never witness an ice dance better than this.

  • Fantastic!!! Really wonderful!

  • This is the most beautifil, emotional dance routine on ice I have ever seen! ... Amazing ...

  • Superb atheletes

  • that is literally beautiful!

  • Wow that was perfect and amazing. I wonder who has the second highest marks...

  • still makes me cry even now brilliant nothing comes near xxx

  • hihi i am an uk girly

  • Gosh I remember this as a kid...agrees with megafieryone..."never matched and never will be"...ice skating does need to be rejuvenated though...I think it's totally underdone!!

  • They're like two flowers synchronized in the wind. Absolutely incredible.

  • never matched and never will be :)

  • they are magnificent! i remember watching this on "magic memories on ice"

  • Torvill-Dean and Pakhomova-Gorshkov - the two couples of magicians who turned ice dancing into the ART.

  • they change ice dance with this...Torvill and Dean the goodness

  • Do the laws of physics not apply do these dancers or something? :D so amazing and effortless

  • *High Quality* LMFAO,

    Look at thre stats-ROFL

  • Once in a lifetime. I will never forget this beauty!!!

  • happy birthday jayne :)

thank you so much - love bolero and loved watching you and that cute guy, dean

  • I can't stop watching their reactions at 5:08 when they see the straight sixes. Just amazing!

  • Jayne and Chris Where BreathTakeing and they still are today on Danceing On Ice PURE LEGENDS <3 <3

  • The perfection of this performance is muddied by the constant 'remakes' of today. This is original. What you see today is nothing compared to how amazing this is.

  • that suck

  • it works so well with the piece

  • I actually gasped at least three times watching this. Stunning!

  • @rooshkin me too, my jaw dropped, amazing talent!

  • @rooshkin same! it looked like sometimes he didnt have enough grip on her.

  • @222littledancer222 That is the point.light touch

  • @rooshkin

YES! I remember I was 20 years old and have watched this on TV with my brother and my parents in Eastern Germany. It was an unbelievable performance, we never have seen something else like that. And - like the audience there - we jumped up and did standing ovations, too. Will never forget this phantastic British couple with this kind of "Bolero". Six points for UK. :) Regards from Germany

  • This is practically Ice Sex, it's so sensual.

  • @megarouge2001 wtf its ice skating!

  • най-големите новатори във фигурното парзаляне.......

  • I remember watching this, never cared for figure skating but this performance made me aware of the amazing grace and artistry that could be performed

  • absoulurely amazerballcz xxxxxxxxxxx

  • Just as great as it was when I saw it 27 years ago. Thanks. My mother raised me on "Bolero," but who knows if it made me any smarter?

  • God, the year I was born. 27 years ago!

  • Goosebumps, goosebumps....just GÓOSEBUMPS!!

  • was zwanger van mijn lief Muske voor mij is dus de top

  • I just looked up Moir and Virtue and I don't know how people can compare. M and V don't even move together at the same time.

  • Who took the Silver and Bronze? I have no recollection myself as T&D mopped up the ice with everyone else. I would have hated to be the the couple who skated after them!

  • thumbs up if your here because of dancing on ice lol

  • I can do that too! It looks so easy... :P

  • you know they changed the ioc rules after their perfedct score no more dying on the ice

  • My all time favourite ice dancers, they still excite today in exhibition skating 27 years later !! They made losing John Curry, my all time favourite male ice dancer, a little easier.

  • I remember seeing this on a live feed from Sarajevo back in '84. Even after all these years, it's still a stunning performance. Bolivia and Samoa must have taken the silver and bronze...cuz these guys blew everyone else out of the water (or should I say ice).

  • Perfection..........I love Bolero also

  • Fenomenalno!!! Bravo!!!

  • bin kein Kenner- aber einfach schön!

  • Sjajno! Nezaboravno! Neponovljivo!

  • 74 people are pair skaters.

  • Lacking the degree of difficulty seen today - but beautifully skated!

  • @skateitalian Lacking the degree of difficulty of today!? That's how easy they make it look; NO ONE has equaled them in the complexity and difficuty of their programs.

  • torvill and dean for the win EPIC

  • My parents used to go ice skating and they were astounded at this pair - and I still am!

  • I was in sixth grade when I saw this in 84. Still LOVE it after 27 years! Perfection for sure!!

    Dawn

  • Flawless Victory

  • perfect.

  • I came into this video knowing they would get that mark, that it was going to be perfect, but it still didn't stop me from crying when the marks came through.

  • @GoldenGal42 Same here, tears tripping me lol!!! There arent enough superlatives to describe this; lets just say we were seeing a piece of history being made here. Has anyone ever since got 6's right across the board like that? Even more incredible, this was at the height of the Cold War, and even the Soviet judge gave Torvill and Dean a 6, as did the USA, so they agreed on something:) All of the judges knew they were seeing perfection.

  • @ralucagymnast What is so amazing as well is that at the Olympic Games, with the greatest possible pressure in sport, with the eyes of the world watching, and the spirit of the British people WILLING them on, they were able to turn in a performance with which the judges could find no fault. Stunning.

  • This was so awesome and beautiful! I've done both figure skating and played some amateur hockey, and I'm really wanting to start ice dancing as well. I think it would be cool to be a hockey player who also ice dances! But I have to wait 'til I can afford to get into a lesson program since I've never even skated with a partner before...:)

  • I watched this when they performed it live and knew I was watching history in the making. I still get chills when I see it...so wonderful!

  • 73 people don't know what talent is.

  • Absolutely super fantastic Proud we feel Torvill and Dean ..British gems .Greatest ever seen ,master piece Belero -Ravel and Gold medal moments in memories to live for ever.

  • Absolutely magical. Their routine is just so simple, fluid and graceful. Like Fred and Ginger on Ice Just shows u don't need to do all those OTT flips and spins to get a gold medal. Pure class...

  • Absolutely magical. Their routine appears just so simple and graceful. They look so fluid.Like Fred and Ginger on Ice Just shows u don't need to do all those OTT flips and spins to get a gold medal. Pure class...

  • Why was it dangerous? All these films make me think of the film The Cutting Edge which is about ice skating. The final number ends on a really dangerous looking move called the Pamchenko twist but it gets them the medal so...Good movie if ne one loves ice skating! ^_^ Btw im making this comment before seeing the whole clip. My internet super slow....

  • The sad thing is that such a performance will never be allowed again.

  • I am 73 , I saw them win the gold many years ago i am as thrilled today watching them on utube as I was then they were magical.

  • I watched them win the gold medal it was spectacular, here I am almost 30 years later still watching them on Utube I feel so thrilled watching them

  • This is amazing!!! 73 people didn't finish watching this...

  • Ice Dancing perfection that has not been equaled since.

  • I have never seen such a beautiful fugure skating performance more than them yet.

  • This is the first time I've ever watched this. I see that it's one of those rare bits of pop culture lore that actually lives up to its legendary status.

    Bravo!!!

  • @HellBlazerRaiser ....the first time?! wow...hehe. it is quite amazing, isn't it?! ;)

  • @kindanice101 Don't ask me how, having watched each Olympics since I can remember, but somehow this performance has eluded me.

The performance is amazing. It's majestic.

  • perfection!!!

  • An unbelievable performance! Total perfection and genius of a man! Hat off!

  • The most beautiful thing that happened on ice EVER. So sensual, flawless, effortless, emotional and original. Bravo! I thank them for honoring soil of my country with their presence and the best performance in ice skating history...

  • @becamarko ...I remember watching this live...with a huge lump in my throat. Watching this STILL...gives me the same lump and tears to my eyes. ;)

  • I absolutley love this! I would love to try this with my partner...we need some more practice first...loads more

  • cool

  • They look like they are a single entity....flowing. Just beautiful...thanks for posting it

  • Wow! So good! This is really ice dancing! (Not to be mistaken with figure skating in pairs) I love it! Love the song, too!

  • Every time I watch this I still get chills at the end. Such precise execution

  • They do it so effortlessly. They make it look like anyone can just go on the ice and do that. They make it look so easy! they are BRILLIANT! :P

  • @LooshaJay Actually it's really not that hard. Not as hard as the other olympic sports. FUCK YOU

  • @VitalSigns1 You need to calm dowm. If this is one of your greatest concerns in your life, im sorry yoou feel the need to get agro. but you could fuck yourself if you feel the need to.

  • Never get fed up with watching this no matter how many times I see it. They are No. 1 in my book

  • 17 years on, this still thrills me. They look so young and fresh. Wonderful.

  • Feels like just 17 years doesn't it? In fact, just yesterday... Hard to believe it's over a quarter of a century ago.

  • @cathyd1030

I know. Makes me feel old but wonderful at the same time. They are still pretty good though I do prefer Jayne with shorter hair.

  • @MEDSEC20 27 year's on although they did perform it again in the 1994 Olympics but this is the 1984 version.

  • Its not always the level of difficulty that will win you in pairs ice dancing but the clear, precise and elegance plus of course the smoothness and technnique that is obvious. It takes natural born Ice Dancers to be able to combine all these features as did this couple who by the way are still going strong if you have watched 'Dabcing on Ice'where they took to the Ice and did a Performance.

  • woah. if tht was me i would've slippes when i lay my foot in that ice!

  • 71 guys don't know what is art.

  • My heroes. Makes me proud to be British

  • Even the Czech and Hungarian judges had to give this a 6.0...

  • Awesome...shivers down my spine while watching...I can't believe how much work this couple from Nottingham put into achieving this incredible performance and winning the Olympic gold medal, which the Brits quite rightly consider one of their all-time greatest sporting moments. Bravo!!! So inspiring.

  • Absolutely perfect! I would have hated to have had to skate after this performance.

  • That was great, I never knew about this but knew this song but a college class I took 5 years ago lol. Anyone who enjoyed this should listen to the full song which is actually about 15 minutes long. Great video and accomplishment!
