Brilliant routine but equally brilliant stunt they pulled to skirt the rules. They couldn't edit the music short enough to work for them and the rules wouldn't allow them to go over the set time. The rules state that the routine starts when their blades touch the ice. So as you can see, they kept them off the surface for the first 18 seconds, enough to keep Bolero the proper length. Not quite as quirky as what they did in BLADES OF GLORY, but enough to make history.

Has anyone ever since got 6's right across the board like that? Even more incredible, this was at the height of the Cold War, and even the Soviet judge gave Torvill and Dean a 6, as did the USA, so they agreed on something:) All of the judges knew they were seeing perfection.

Why was it dangerous? All these films make me think of the film The Cutting Edge which is about ice skating. Its not always the level of difficulty that will win you in pairs ice dancing but the clear,precise and elegance plus of course the smoothness and technnique that is obvious.It takes natural born Ice Dancers to be able to combine all these features as did this couple who by the way are still going strong if you have watched 'Dabcing on Ice'where they took to the Ice and did a Performance.
