We on the surface would notice no difference. You are correct that the origin of the universe is still a mystery and probably always will be. But, I promise you that there is no scientific theory that says the universe formed from nothing by accident. You'll never find that in any scientific journal, so stop making up straw men.

@backwoodsninja@backwoodsninja There is obvious fine tuning in our Universe to sustain life. The number of stangggeeee coincidences at the subatomic level is surprisingly large. Again, I look at the evidence from both sides before I make my own conclusion. Another thing...I feel you have the words Faith and Knowledge jumbled. Christians do not claim to have greater knowledge, we have FAITH that God designed us. The evidence is also pretty convenient too :)

@stuwasraisedbywolves The arguement from design is an interesting one. If you can tell the universe was designed by looking at it, then do tell what would a non-designed universe look like. Unless you've seen more than one universe, you can't really argue that this one "looks designed." Since Christians argue that absolutely everything was designed, the characteristic becomes meaningless, because there's nothing to compare it to.

@backwoodsninja What we can expect to observe in the universe must be restricted by the conditions necessary for our presence of observers. (all the seemingly arbitrary and unrelated constants in physics have one strange thing in common-these are precisely the values you need if you want to have a universe capable of producing life.) If thats not a design I don't know what is...this laptop I'm typing on evolved from natural causes for all I know.

That is how we can distinguish a laptop from, say, a tree. One occurs in nature, the other does not. The fact that the universe has life on one of its planets does not mean that the universe was designed for life. I live in Pennsylvania. That does not mean that Pennsylvania was made just so I could live.
