@lights24bulbs: technically, it's both. The 'Hollywood' version of sonar use a sweeping pattern, but I have yet to see a actual sonar that does anything else except in/out distance. This places the PING)) on a movable platform, changing its direction. I tried a similar design on a VEX robotics platform.. My mistake, was not properly timing, waiting for an 'All Quiet', and result was a rash of stray return signals. Modifying the code for this, to C++ might help remedy that.
