  • It's like these games weren't allowed in the rest of the world because they're too cute!

  • Great list, though I would have put Tales of Phantasia and Popful Mail on there.

  • Um... it's called an emulator, especially an emulator on the wii homebrew channel duh (makes it feel realistic). But none to less this video... was... GREAT!!!

  • haha, the Japs got MK2 with green blood with their "Supah Famicommu"

  • If these are Super Famicom games , i don't need a " Super Famicom "!!

  • the only games from this list I have are Star Ocean and Majyuuou both are awesome

  • I was thinking "I bet that will not mention Magical Pop'n" and it jumped me on the face D;

  • Those are some super weird/awesome games, haha. I love Star Ocean so hard. What about Tales of Phantasia?

  • Maybe I'm going to sound a little gay but... DUDE I LOVE YOU!! Star Ocean on the 1st place... PERFECT xD

  • i only like seiken densetsu

  • What about Super Bomberman 3-5? Those games never made it here and starting with 3 they introduced co-op story mode, multi-path levels & the ability to play boss characters.

  • I recently picked up a translated version of Star Ocean on a PAL cart. Works perfect :)

  • Sanrio ar~>V< I liked this game alot!(Always played was my brother)

    Ganbare Goemon too.

  • No offense

  • Japanese gamers = spoiled

  • Great list!

  • only good games in this vid were seiken densetsu 3 and star ocean ....THE REST SUCKED!!

  • @AquariusProductions1 Let me guess. You just play RPG's right.....riiiiiiight.

  • @AquariusProductions1

    >Ganbare Goemon SUCKED

    get lost, kid.

  • @AquariusProductions1 Sounds to me like you have SHIT TASTE.

  • @321cheeseman oh well

  • oh come on, magical pop'n and star ocean - games we do not own? really?

  • Game #4 is the only original concept in my view. All the others I have seen before... Splendid selection, nonetheless :-)

  • @Overvalbeelden Magical pop'n ( Number 4 on this list) is extremely fun. I was very fortunate to buy the game too at a low price.:)

  • Star Ocean - Majyuuou - and Super PC Genjin 2 all in the same list. All are so utterly different I have to wonder if these choices were just picked at random or what. Don't get me wrong, I have played nearly all the games here and even own a few , more specifically, Magical Pop'n and Sanrio World Smash Ball but others like Majyuuou and DoreMi Fantasy were just tedious. Still, I'd rather play any of these games rather than most US releases.

  • @Luminous72 in your opinion...

  • @madcapoperator Well yeah...in my opinion.

  • Majyuuou looks amazing.

  • ganbare goemon 4 is the best of all

  • earthbound???

  • How do you know I don't own them?

  • I do own Star Ocean, Seiken 3 and Ganbare Goemon 4, so my honor is safe :P. I've been wanting to get Cotton for a while now.

  • @Kafei2006 can you enjoy them without knowing japanese?

  • @GermanExceptionalism Star Ocean and Seiken 3, I played them in fan translated english on an emulator (since I do own the original cartridges, legally, I can ;) ). Ganbare Goemon 4, you can enjoy without knowing japanese, but it's far more enjoyable if you know Japanese because it's full of humour, and there are a couple of places where basic knowledge of Japanese is required to advance otherwise you don't know what you're supposed to do. That's when online guides come in handy ;).

  • Very interesting top 10.

I have to agree with Minebot...your missing Terranigma.

aside from that.. Truly a Game that should of been brought over along with Secret of Mana 3 and Star Ocean.

for an RPG fan the following games were not brought to the US

    Dragon quest 5 & 6

  • @Ottoz3ro My guess is that his list is comprised only of games only released on Super famicom. A,d Terranigma was released in PAL territories on Super Nintendo so... can't be on that list, right ? Additionally, Dragon Quest 5 & 6 are on Nintendo DS for us to enjoy in a localized form now, but none of those on that list (so does the first Star Ocean, on PSP though)

  • uhm... terranigma?

  • I want Magical Pop'n, and perhaps Star Ocean. But that's why we have Chrono Trigger. o 3o

  • @OhGodNo666 That is true. I just couldn't help mention it. ^_^

  • Rudra no Hihou is missing

  • Where's Pop'n Twinbee?

  • Is this star ocean the first story? ive played the second story on ps1.

  • not really much point with japanese starocean unless ya speaks the lingo..i also would have put Gourmet Sentai Bara Yaruo for sheer japanese-ness and Akumaju Drakura in there as it's like an uncut version of one of the best games on the system imo..

    good list tho.

  • @dannyofthededd Star Ocean SNES has had a fan translation patch out for a while now though, if you're willing to emulate.

  • @gaminggoddess85 well,yep..i was playing a translated version of "front mission" on my old poota before it went into meltdown but was always a bit dubious as to the authenticity of the translation and also i suppose it isnt a japanese version anymore..i certainly got no probs with emulating although it would be nice to have the money and the Japanese language skills to own the originals!!

  • Seiken 3 is in the first place for me

  • Where can I find English Roms of both Star Ocean and Seiken Densetsu 3?

  • i have goemon 4 , i have all goemon.. GANBAROOOOO!!!!!

  • that first one is just bonks adventure

  • Star Ocean but no Tales of Phantasia? Granted, the English translation isn't very good and takes WAY too many liberties.

  • @Krosbryd SO > ToP :o

  • My god Japan always had better quality games than us westerners, most of what we had that was awesome they had too.

This vid is proof of some of the better made stuff me missed out on, if only they bothered translating.

  • @NeoHoshi Speak for your self, even worse in europe no Final Fantasy, or Earthbound.

  • @Vendettare1 Really? ouch! Oh well atleast you have PAL machines so you can buy from us :D

  • @NeoHoshi Luckily for everyone, there are roms.

  • @KedViper Amen... Though I do prefere original hardware... Thank god for Everdrives! Best of both :D

  • @NeoHoshi

yeah right North America got hard times ... but what is with Europe?

we not just missed out on classic super famicom games but also on super nintendo games like Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger or Earthbound!

  • @NeoHoshi

and on some games, the traduction was what made the game pretty awesome

MGS? the japanese voices sucked dicks against the US ones (yes, i has heared the 2)

and castlevania symphony of the night....i think every voice fit perfect, but for the old man and the succubus

  • mega man & bass should def. be in this list... it's one of the best mega man's ever made!

  • 10th is called Bonk in english.

  • I have a few of the games but missing three I really want. Sutte Hakkun, Do Rei Mi Fantasy and Magical Pop'n

  • @Canadianu2ber Been trying to get Magical Pop'n for a while... Can't seem to find it anywhere :\

  • Good thing DoReMi Fantasy is on the Wii's virtual console.

  • amazing games.sadly though most of them are very very expensive.

  • gay games e.e

  • Star Ocean I Like very very Il est trop beau en plus de ça

  • Kinda funny how I've beaten the top 5 but never played or barely played the first five.

  • i played most of those games, seiken densetsu was the best out of all of them though, i loved that series...

  • Live A Live should definitely be on this list.

  • @gaminggoddess85 the name should have been "live a LIFE" instead. It's more grammatically correct imo.

  • @ryanc519 But the "Live"s in Live A Live are pronounced like live as in live broadcast or live show, not like live as in living room. Besides, it's a Japanese game and those rarely have normal, grammatically correct names... like New Testament Legend of Holy Sword (Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu, or Sword of Mana to us westerners).

  • goemon frustrates me >< i got one, but i must have the 3rd game.

  • how many goemon games is it on SFC?

  • @Starwind18020 No way in hell can you be watching this video without some reason. Something had to make you type something obscure about SFC games from Japan in the search bar to even be here in the first place. And as much as I hate sports, you should be a man and play it IRL instead of some shit ass game about it.

  • i think starring gohemon and seiken densetsu 3 are the best games

  • I'd add "Tales of Phantasia" to this (similar to StarOcean).

    Anyways - pretty good list!

  • Omg... I didn't know Star Ocean started from the Super Famicom...

  • these games 0wn!

  • If I knew Japanese, I'd have more than just ONE super famicom game.

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer

Not always. Some cartoons you play they'll stare at that ALL day. However kids that are 12+ enjoy RPGS, I don't know many adults who are. Adults are more into garbage like madden, halo and Call of duty.

  • Sadly most people don't have most of these games cuz they're really expensive x/. (much to my displeasure) at least half the stuff on the list is 40$ plus. Which is sad, since most of them look like games I'd really like, esspecially Majyuuou, that looks really cool.

  • i got seiken densetsu3, i call it final fantasy adventur3 though. lol

got it along time ago when importing SFC games cost like $180 US. you know a game was awesome when you dish out that much money, couldn't understand the story and still consider it your best purchace ever.

  • Ops, I have Ganbare Goemon Kirakira Douchuu.

  • Where's RockMan and Forte (MegaMan and Bass)?

  • These games suck ballz

  • OAKY everyone that thinks ps3 and xbox 360 have good games based on graphics stop saying that start playing the playstation games! why? cause then you will understand what a GOOD GAME IS

  • I noticed Seiken Densetsu 3 and Star Ocean were in English. I want to get a Super Famicon game but I was going to avoid RPGs because there is usually alot of text. Did you get it to have English text through a mod on an emulator or is there an option in the game to do that??? Does anyone know any other SF games that you can change to english on a normal cartridge???

  • RPGs = ZZZZZzzzzzzzz...........

  • @JCThompson1 i second that!

  • @JCThompson1

Cool when you are a kid BORING when you're an adult. I used to really enjoy RPGs now I can't play them for more then 3 hours at a time. However 16 bit rpgs are still good. Too bad it's a boring genre. It's all about taste I persume.

  • @TheDemoniusX

I suppose they could be OK, but the stories are so cliche and contrived. I see your point. I LOVED legend of zelda on NES back when I was 10. I tried recently to play one of the higher rated SEGA CD RPGs (Shining in the something) I cant remember the name, but it was just tedious (find items, level up, must have this item to go here) I just cant enjoy RPGs today.. I prefer SHMUPS..

  • @JCThompson1

now we're talking! SHMUPS are amazing and fun, also to mention some of the best music in the industry. Gradius,Raiden,Darius,ThunderForce,R-Type these are names branded in memory due to the times I got pissed off and fun epic times I had with levels and bosses. Sega CD Rpg? The only ones I am familar with is "Dark Wizard" "VAY" "Lunar: silver star story" "Lunar: Eternal blue" and "Shining force CD". Shining in the darkness was a GENESIS rpg, are you talking about that game?

  • Oh, I have them all. Is there anything else I should own but "I don't"?

  • Where's Pop'n Twin Bee?

Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e?

    Huh? Where are those games?

  • Nintendo Famicom > American NES

  • Is there anywhere to get a list of all famicom games that aren't also for the super nintendo?

  • on an emulator i downloaded magical pop n and seiken densetsu 3(translated)

  • @dylstew

    and i had doremifantasy....

    or milon 2..0.o

  • dang, Sutte Hakkun is pretty dang rare. The only cart version was released 3 years after the console retired.

  • Goemon 2 >>>>>>>>>>>> Goemon 4

  • Comment removed

  • I bet it was only released in japan

  • Unbelievable collection! how come I never heard of it, I regret so bad now. Thanks.

  • nobody ever mentions clock tower. why?

  • Great selection!

  • cotton 100% (shmup) weird... never heard of it

  • Comment removed

  • I'm disappointed that you didn't add better footage of Ganbare Goemon 4. You should've included the platforming action and maybe the introduction sequence instead of the characters attacking innocent town-aliens and the angry guards.

  • I wish SOMEONE would translate the goemon snes titles. The first one was awesome and I heard the rest are just as good.

  • Great.........now you got me excited and now i have to find these games.

  • Super PC Genjin was recently given an English translation by a group of fan translators so non-Japanese speaking blokes like most of us can now have a go at it.

So is Marchen Adventure 100% Cotton, Majuu Ou, Magical Pop'n & DoReMi Fantasy.

  • Goemon The No.1 in my Heart

  • Uh, Dragon Quest V?

  • Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension should have been on there!

  • are all of these super famicom exclusiveor were they all on snes?

  • Sutte Hakkun is great, my kind of game.

  • @schtolteheim It looks cute, but kinda looks like Kirby, huh?

  • DoReMi's a terrific game. Better than Seiken Densetsu 3 though? I think that's an odd call. I certainly don't disagree with Star Ocean though.

  • Terranigma should have been on this list; but yeah, there are entirely too many SFC games to put together a genuine top 10.

  • Fire emblem seisen no keifu?

  • interesting choices, not seen those games before, #3 looked kinda cool, thanks for the video, i didn't know the first star ocean was for the snes, wow, learn something new everyday...

  • I can't beat DoRe Mi snowman!!!

  • Earthbound?

  • No Parodius? You're right though, it is absolutely tough to narrow it down to 10. Nice to see Ganbare Goemon in there. One of the greatest series of games ever & a great soundtrack.

  • I have boxed versions of magical pop'n & seiken densetsu 3 nice to see them getting some love :D

  • tbh alot of these games seem like what you would see a acid trip.

but they are fun games none the less

  • seiken densetsu is the shit!!!!!!!!!!

  • very nice top 10 but you forgot tales of phantasia & street fighter zero 2

  • never heard of any of these games

  • Wow!

  • I am going to get a Super Famicom

  • I highly reccomend it.

You can go to some retro shops and buy a snes for a ridiculously low price.

I bought one fromt he shop nearby for 25 bucks

  • I think a Top 10 is too small to list all great Japanese games, but nice list anyway!

  • I'm not a specialist on Super Famicom gaming, I only know there's tons of great Japanese games ... as far as wrestling games went into the 16 bit era, there's the Super Fire Pro Wrestling series that beat everything done for WWF and WCW all together on SNES... maybe not as popular as many Japanese games, but there has been a growing cult on Fire Pro games for many years in the import market and on the rom/emulator communities

  • i'd think sparkster was a good game only because it had the best sound

  • hello corbie. this is SonicMaster from nintendolife. why didn't you let me back on the site?

  • you should really play xardion/yardion

    for snes

  • Awesome top 10! Some of these games I do own. Thank you for the list, so I can see which other SF games are worth adding to my collection. And the second part of DoReMi fantasy... Awesome audio track!!!

  • #6. is a rip off of mystical ninja

  • no it isn't its part of the same series mystical ninja being the localization name

  • ic i was gonna say its very similiar but that makes sense

  • No it isn't!

Ganbare Goemon is Mystical Ninja in Japan, so it's actually the 4th part on SNES. Part 2 to 4 were sadly never released outside of Japan.

  • i have SD3 :)

  • PC genjin?

    Sanrio World?

    Magical poppin?

How about Dragon Ball Z rpg

    Fire pro wrestling series

many others would go on the list

  • or Tales Of Phantasia

  • can you play star ocean in engish i thought the game was only in japanese?

  • what about terranigma? there was another one i cant think of off the top of my head, but it kicks ass too.

  • I have Seiken densetstu 3, i call it secret of mana 2 though.

  • @PKUltimaga

i call secret of mana seiken densetsu 2.

final fantasy advantures seiken densetsu 3.

and seiken densetsu 3... seiken densetsu 3...

  • @dylstew Eh what?

  • @PKUltimaga Good way to be politically correct, fucker.

  • Final Fantasy IV was released as II in America, and Final Fantasy VI was released as III there. V was the only one out of the three not to get a western release. Of course, here in Europe we didn't get any of them! Thankfully, the GBA ports exist...

  • no10 looks like super bonk 0_0

    no'6 looks like mystical ninja.

no3,i know that game thats a sequel to secret of mana for the SNES

other games look awesome i must try it

  • No. 10 IS Super Bonk, but it's Super Bonk 2. Bonk is PC Genjin in Japan, with Genjin meaning "primitive man" and "PC Genjin" being a pun on PC Engine, the game console it first appeared on. Incidentally, Air Zonk was PC Denjin (electrical man).

  • it's a really good list but where the flip is CLOCK TOWER!!!!!!!!

  • Seconded. Clock Tower should be in any such list, and ditto for Umihara Kawase. I also agree with Sutte Hakkun, but most of the rest are kinda... meh. And yes, I am including Star Ocean and SD3 in the "meh" titles (even though SD2 is one of the best SFC games).

  • i own 100% cotton. it's ok but very same same all the way through.

    no'6 looks like mystical ninja.

    no'3 looks like chrono trigger

  • lies i have seiken densetsu 3

  • I played Star Ocean at my cousins and it kicked ass!

  • how come there is no terrangima or umihara.

  • ha the super genji looks like super mario world and #9 is like kirby haha

  • Nice list :) I really need to track down some Japanese SNES games (And a way to play them!)

I have to admit though, I'm surprised Final Fantasy V didn't make the list.

  • hmm i think Final Fnatasy V was realeased in America for the SNES under a name final fantasy 2 im not sure look on wikipedia

  • That's final Fantasy 4. Final Fantasy V wasn't available here until it was released on Gameboy Advance.

  • It was ported to PlayStation before that, IIRC. FFV is my favorite game in the series, though it's not a very popular choice for that spot.

  • Sorry, but sanrio smash ball is crap. You can have my copy..

  • what about Super Mario World!?! nobody has that one. LOL!!

  • Love this vid' good stuff.

  • A few others I like: Bomberman 5, Clock Tower, Der Langrisser, Hamelin no Violin, Ganpuru: Gunman's Proof, Puyo Puyo 2 and Gundam W: Endless Duel.

  • I always dreamed this kind of relases in america...

  • I didn't like Seiken Densetsu 3. 2 was totally awesome and in my opinion the best RPG ever made (till today and ongoing). But I agree with Star Ocean, every RPG fan should've played it.

  • Yes, Star Ocean, they also have that game for the PSP and worth every penny. It has Anime scenes and voices you will probably recognize.

  • Not bad but where's Mother and isn't 10 one of the bonk's adventure games for the turbo-graf (I don't know how to spell turbo-graf or what if that's even close)

  • mother is a nes game. if youre talking about mother 2, it was released in the US as "earthbound" the reason its not on the list is because... the list only got jp games.

  • Ganbare Goemon! i loved the first - translated - game so much its still one of my all time favs but the rest i've only played on emu in japanese.. if konami only could translate them for the gaijin world...sigh :)

  • you missed one, shin megami tensei, i've played some translated roms, and that game is awesome, i want the original cartridge, but i have to learn jap :(

  • What the heck!

Goemon?! It's like Legend of Mystical Ninja II!
