Watching this video again I see he did two things wrong.
1. He wasn't watching what he was cutting. I don't know about anyone else but I always watch sharp objects in motion that could easily cut off any part of me when I'm using them.
2. He wasn't using the guard correctly. These machines have a handle in place that you are supposed to use to cut EVERYTHING.
Though I'm not sure these machines could cut through bone, this guy deserved what he got for being stupid.

I've worked with machines just like the one in the video for about 10 years now and even when I was new to them I made the assessment that you'd have to be really trying to get hurt by one. Those machines have so many guards that you'd pretty much have to be intentionally trying to injure yourself to remove an extremity.
I've only know 2 people hurt by that machine. One was damn near retarded and the other was drunk
