  • Nice Beetle! I have to change the wheel bearings on my 91 Golf and this video does help with the removal and pressing of the bearings.

  • @KenFaustmann I love my "56"

  • this video was a tremendous help... thank you... however, I didn't have your slick set of OEM wheel bearing tools to hammer in the races... I simply used the old races upside down on the new races and tapped them in that way... then flipped it over and tapped the old ones back out... worked perfectly!

  • @the0dub0lab I do the same if i do not have a tool.Have fun with your VW.

  • Thank You Very Much it's really useful for me.

  • hey rich, straight question about the original beetles in general. can you convert to disc brakes? what are the options - only front or both axles? also, can you install coil springs and struts combo (maybe even adjustable coilovers) both front and rear?

I know that through years VW made like 100k minor changes, but which years have te most potential to convert to sharp and nifty little oldtimer? thanks a bunch

  • @seasonedtoker Yes they sell front and rear disc kits for the beetle someday i would like to put them on mine.Volkswagen made a beetle with coil front suspension from 1971-1979 it was called the super beetle.

  • nice to see an SKF, best stuff in my opinion

  • I just like to say that I'm studying exactly this right now and your video helped a lot! I hoped that we had videos like this (with this explanation and resolution) in Brazil. Thanks for posting and helping us out.

    Cheers from Brazil,

    Rafael

  • Nice Beetle Richpin! Is it yours? You rock Bud!

  • @ThePaulgregg O ya and i treat it like a baby well almost i have been known to power shift it a few times.

  • Nice video. I wish they all went that smoothly. You make it look easy.

  • The same system is used on the Porsche.....don't ask why.....

  • Rich u need a greese bearing packer, sometimes is the smallest tools we dont have around lol

  • @hp11208 It would be nice to have no doubt about it.

  • One important think to remember when changing the rear bearings is to not forget to install the cotter pin through the large nut when done. My neighbors son forgot this step and the large nut worked itself loose while driving. The wheel and drum fell off and he nearly had an accident.

  • rich r u older than the beet lol

  • @hp11208 The beetle was born in 1956 and i was born in 1954......wow

  • Nice video, thanks for taking the time to make it.

I have never worked on these vehicles before so my comment may not be interesting to some more experienced folks but, I noticed that the spindle nut was left hand thread. Is it also left hand on the right side of the vehicle?

  • @RJC3po On the beetle it is left hand thread on the left and right hand thread on the right.Thank you for asking.

  • Reverse thread?

  • @TOMOFONO You caught that...yes it is left hand thread.

  • Thats almost exactly the same as my 98 vw gti lol (for the rears tho)

  • Hey rich, is that yer car? 'cuz she's beautiful. And in a pinch for guys like me that don't have a seal driver set at home (yet), I have successfully used the old race to drive in the new one with a length of 4 x 4 wood as the driver, then flipped the drum or rotor over and knocked the old race out again. Seemed to work just fine, nothing was crooked, just be careful to not mar the new race. Keep up the good work Rich.

  • @beefystik Yes that is my sunday ride.Thank you for sharing.

  • Great demonstration, Rich. You must be a painter. Is painting your day job?

  • @spelunkerd I worked in a auto body shop once upon a time.

  • @0:14 "We can take some of this grease and put it in the cavity." - Thats what she said.

  • Is the rear wheel bearings the same procedure as the front? Thanks Rich as always great job.

  • @teksman777 The rears are much different.

  • Great quality in both visuals and content :)
