You could use it to charge batteries all night and then convert dc to ac. Populpar Mechanics has shown generators making electricity from wave action before. You just have a different shape. There might be patents already. You can make anthing for you own use if some else has a patent just can not sell it. Hope no one has a patent. . Since you design is different syle of wave gathering energy you might be albe to get a patent good luck.

On the negative comments: No one notices that all these type of videos are created by well meaning ordinary people with one idea which is to help everybody. I study the history of science and all the most vicious attacks upon it were when something new was getting developed that would benefit everybody. Of course there are flaws and we don't know the specs but it is their principle and potential that counts. Compare a 19th century telephone or computer to today's, people would dismiss them too.
while this is a great application of hydrodynamics to create electricity it's not free or even new. Free energy is positive net return energy, meaning that you get more then you put in. Don't like to rain on your parade ...... but you've consumed a lot of energy in the construction , to get very little return ....... i'm not suggesting you could not obtain greater returns, but the up front energy costs are very unlikely to be overcome . If your in the middle of no where, they it may fill a market . But how would that market find out about it ?
the sprung spool (like one of those retractable dog leads or a tape measure) idea would eliminate problems with tides as it would self adjust, the spool would drive an AC motor creating a voltage no matter which direction it was moving in.

Another idea could be to attach a rope to a pier, all of the moving parts and electronics could be on the pier and the object could be any floating mass like a boat, also if on a boat a weight could be dropped to the ocean floor, the line could be attached to a spool with a spring rewind, that way it would turn with the boats movement, good for charging batteries etc. supplying electricity to the boat
i suppose this does not necessarily need to be anchored to the sea bed, as long as there is a way to stop it floating away the counter weight could simply be of neutral buoyancy or great amount of drag, something fairly big and flat just a few meters below the device and then adjusted to have neutral buoyancy, although perhaps not quite as effective, it may not always be practical to anchor to the bottom.
This is great, but I don't understand the hype. Wave generators are not new or anything. There are larger ones that have already been implemented on a greater scale.
There's only one problem I see with this. Well actually 2. One, it's not free. And 2, look at how little energy is being produced by that big floating rig. Barely enough to power a palm sander. It's a great idea, but the output needs to be increased a buttload before its practical.

This idea has been around for as long as I can remember, and I'm 60. It's not "free energy", it's just converting the energy of the water as it rises and falls. "Free energy" systems like HHO, magnet motors, perpetual motion machines, etc are fringe science frauds that claim to create more energy than is put into them.
I remember seeing an invention many, many years ago that used the oceans motion as a way to create electricity. As I recall a company built several large devices which looked like gigantic slatted window blinds. They were mounted just off shore on cement pads.. A simple crank system changed the motion from back and forth to circular, then it was geared appropriately. Energy IS everywhere..all we have to do is change it's form...

not a bad idea, similar to a device I made when I was a kid that used the waves on a lake to generate power for an LED. The device needs to be made much more robust. you need to fix the housing to a secure spot and let the tides/waves provide the energy instead of letting the object bob around randomly. Also, you'd need to have this thing on amassive scale to make it useful. To those of you calling it free energy, it's only free in that we didn't need to extract the fuel out of the ground.
I think this would be more efficient if the entire armature was stable. You're losing a lot of potential power by the random floating of the device. You could, theoretically, remove the spring in it as well and take advantage of the outgoing wave. Both should give a more steady current.
to those who think this isnt free energy... the oceans move due to physics, i.e. the moon there for it is free energy this is simply a way to tap that energy, such as solar panels and mills :)

Please re-title to describe your device properly. It is not free, the device will cost. We do not yet know if harnessing wave energy will imbalance an important ecological balance. Theoretically many of these would reduce tidal wave intensity past the point of install.

@SudderCaine free energy means that: lets say you have a motor and you power it from another motor being turned by it it would be powering itself then you get energy from that motor to power another that's free energy. this is taking natural energy from the waves made by the moon therefor it is being powered. it is a simple generator. that's all.

@lumokinesis - Actually, ocean waves are generated by winds on the surface. Tides are driven by the moon, and the sun to a lesser extent. But energy has been harvested from waves and tides before, just not on a global scale.
your next prototype should have a battery system that stores the energy and amplifies it. some what like a transformer or an amp for a car sub woofer. this will double if not triple its efficiency

Not very practical when compared to wind or solar in my opinion. The sea is not very kind and degrades and erodes this type of device very quickly, and then maintenance is very costly.
This guy might make some money.. he seems smart and likeable and hard working and decent.. but I assume all of this from just one little video.. I would like to know more about him, because hopefully we will hear more about him in the future, I think he's cool and groovy man :-)

Dam and turbine set up is the same principal. They're both hydroelectric only one is way more efficient than the other.
Tesla probably through this idea away not because it was a bad idea but it didn't supply enough power to be feasible on a large scale. Your idea is good for remote locations and small power requirements but requires batteries and DC to AC inverters if you want to power anything you plug in.
Calculate Watt hours and include that in your video.

Try lighting a old light bulb not LED's and what is the cost v energy output like? Take into account regular maintenance, it's not free, it's more expensive than a solar panel or windmill. Plus costs for using the already patented idea :) Nothing is free specially not this idea.
Of course the device will work, its the exact same idea as a windmil. But we dont call windmil's a source of FREE energy, do we? Its just GREEN energy. Taking the motion (ie. kinetic energy) of the wind and converting it into electricity. This takes the motion of the waves and converts it to electricity.
This is very old technology, you could also use a small boat to produce even greater output of electrical energy....Its called bouyancy, Archimedes' Principle...

the sprung spool (like one of those retractable dog leads or a tape measure) idea would eliminate problems with tides as it would self adjust, the spool would drive an AC motor creating a voltage no matter which direction it was moving in.

Another idea could be to attach a rope to a pier, all of the moving parts and electronics could be on the pier and the object could be any floating mass like a boat, also if on a boat a weight could be dropped to the ocean floor, the line could be attached to a spool with a spring rewind, that way it would turn with the boats movement, good for charging batteries etc. supplying electricity to the boat

i suppose this does not necessarily need to be anchored to the sea bed, as long as there is a way to stop it floating away the counter weight could simply be of neutral buoyancy or great amount of drag, something fairly big and flat just a few meters below the device and then adjusted to have neutral buoyancy, although perhaps not quite as effective, it may not always be practical to anchor to the bottom.

There's only one problem I see with this. Well actually 2. One, it's not free. And 2, look at how little energy is being produced by that big floating rig. Barely enough to power a palm sander. It's a great idea, but the output needs to be increased a buttload before its practical.

I remember seeing an invention many, many years ago that used the oceans motion as a way to create electricity. As I recall a company built several large devices which looked like gigantic slatted window blinds. They were mounted just off shore on cement pads.. A simple crank system changed the motion from back and forth to circular, then it was geared appropriately. Energy IS everywhere..all we have to do is change it's form...

not a bad idea, similar to a device I made when I was a kid that used the waves on a lake to generate power for an LED. The device needs to be made much more robust. you need to fix the housing to a secure spot and let the tides/waves provide the energy instead of letting the object bob around randomly. Also, you'd need to have this thing on amassive scale to make it useful. To those of you calling it free energy, it's only free in that we didn't need to extract the fuel out of the ground.

I think this would be more efficient if the entire armature was stable. You're losing a lot of potential power by the random floating of the device. You could, theoretically, remove the spring in it as well and take advantage of the outgoing wave. Both should give a more steady current.

@lumokinesis - Actually, ocean waves are generated by winds on the surface. Tides are driven by the moon, and the sun to a lesser extent. But energy has been harvested from waves and tides before, just not on a global scale.

Dam and turbine set up is the same principal. They're both hydroelectric only one is way more efficient than the other.
Tesla probably through this idea away not because it was a bad idea but it didn't supply enough power to be feasible on a large scale. Your idea is good for remote locations and small power requirements but requires batteries and DC to AC inverters if you want to power anything you plug in.
Calculate Watt hours and include that in your video.

Try lighting a old light bulb not LED's and what is the cost v energy output like? Take into account regular maintenance, it's not free, it's more expensive than a solar panel or windmill. Plus costs for using the already patented idea :) Nothing is free specially not this idea.

Of course the device will work, its the exact same idea as a windmil. But we dont call windmil's a source of FREE energy, do we? Its just GREEN energy. Taking the motion (ie. kinetic energy) of the wind and converting it into electricity. This takes the motion of the waves and converts it to electricity.
