Awe! What a sweetie! I want a Newfie! Maybe when our last son is moved out. Yeah! Cause I know it's lots of work and slobber. But we always had big dogs growing up. And I really love them!
When my niece was five she was knocked to the pavement by a happy Newfie doing a hip and tail wag. She was bawling but the poor dog didn't have a clue!
(in case you are still unclear... I'll paraphrase for you...
MrRobertSama pointed out that VAJOWELS didn't know where the dog's mouth had been; VAJOWELS responded, true, but the dog didn't know where HIS FACE had been. I commented to VAJOWELS, that considering dog's sense of smell, he probably DID know where his face had been and by licking his face might, it be a way of the dog saying "good job."
Re: your earlier comment about getting a newfie. They require lots of attention in the form of a job. They are very unhappy if they consider themselves unemployed. What that means for owners is giving them tasks, dog problems to solve.Mine is with me all day;goes to training for agility or commands 2x a week and water rescue training 1x a week. The other 5 days, I make up jobs for her to do. I walk her every day, most summer days we go to a field with a pond where we play and she swims.
::smacks head:: I shortened my reply and cut the important parts!! (sorry!!) My Newf's a real licker! I train her with other Newfs with a Newfie club. Most seem to want to lick to express that they like you, but are not as avid about it as my dog. I've been told it's a social thing, that my dog needs to learn better manners. Haven't been able to stop her. Hope THIS reply helps! Good luck finding a Newf!
